r e n v o o r's Greeti G t n a n e t ng Lieu Melody Song HEY, SHRUBS! Welcome to my second divisional newsletter. I can't believe I was able to contact all of you guys! Everyone was extremely welcoming and hardworking. Even though it is the summer, and not many clubs are currently active, it is important to keep in touch with your club members to promote Key Club! Keep up the good work :) If your club is holding any virtual or in-person events, please let me know because I would love to attend! I can not wait to meet all of you guys in person and virtually! I plan to hold many fun activities for our division in the upcoming school year, and I hope to meet everyone!

Speaking of meeting you guys, I am excited to announce that I will have my first virtual divisional meeting in August. The date is still tentative, but I hope to have it on the 28th or 29th!

North Shore High School had a special zoom meeting with their co- Presidents and executive assistants and advisers to discuss how the club will move forward in September 2. Sandwich making for Kiwanis Bike Challenge Fundraiser The North Shore key Club is always on hand to support their Kiwanis Club of North Shore. Pictured are members making 200 peanut & jelly sandwiches for the annual Kiwanis Bicycle Challenge on Sunday, June 26th. The pictures are the key club members in action with the sandwich-making task: Nia & Niko Stavrianos (brother & sister team) and Veronica Frank. A special thank you to Paula Stavrianos (mom) who joined her family with the sandwich-making making. Adviser Julia Salat coordinated the event.

n g i s / i E a r v e d n n ts u F 3. CASA Sticker Event North Shore Members went around passing out and putting stickers around the community that advocated for healthy activities. Each hour was given out for the period of time each member spent giving out stickers.

4. Aktion Club Dinner

North Shore had a special dinner, which was hosted at a local group home.

Cards were made with the people that were there. Hours were given for each hour that each member was present.

5. Kiwanis Student of the Month Ceremony North Shore members attended the Kiwanis award ceremony and each hour was given based on the amount of time each member was present 6. Battle of the Classes battling for a cause Carl Place High School competed in order to fundraise for Dimond-Blackfan anemia 7. Fashion Show for Carbon Monoxide Awareness and the Chris Comito Memorial Scholarship Carle Place students participated in a fashion show where all the proceeds went to the Christofer Comito Memorial Scholarship fund as well as Carbon Monoxide Awareness.

n g i s / i E a r v e d n n ts u F 9. Promotional Video This summer, Great Neck South High School Key Club board members and their LTG created a promotional video through zoom for the 8th graders.

8. Blood Drive with the New York Blood Center Great Neck South High School worked with the New York Blood Center. There were over 100 donors and overall, it was extremely successful

DISTRICT UPDATES The Empire Key June Update Cindy Zou has created and published our district newsletter! In it, you'll find updates from all executive board members and district opportunities. Awards are also mentioned!

Treasurer of the month If you have noticed an outstanding work ethic with your club Treasurer, feel free to nominate them as Treasurer of the month!

Anyone a part of Key Club can vote. The form is linked to the title Make sure to nominate before the 20th of each month.

After the 20th, three of the best nominations will offer three club Treasurers the chance to explain more about their experience as club Treasurer and why they should be Treasurer of the month. At the end of the month, one Treasurer will be crowned Treasurer of the Month and will be featured on The Empire Key and NYDKC's social media platform. Good luck!

Editor's Choice Awards This award is for all key club members, and club editors.

Awardees receive certificates and a personal note from the Bulletin Editor. Our social platforms will publish their article and photo(s). Scan the QR code in The Empire Key June Update for more information! The form to apply is linked to the title.

Fall rally Division 1 to 12 has planned this year's fall rally! For the first time in two years, we will be having an in-person workshop, keynote speakers, and service events to partake in.

The date is still tentative, but we are aiming for November! We will come together at LIU. Please fill out the interest form linked in the title if you are planning to attend!

This organization builds classrooms, provides teachers with training and innovative resources, and provides children access to clean water, private bathrooms, and good hygiene practices.

I am planning to have my first divisional in August. The dates are still tentative, but I am planning to have it on the 28th or 29th. Please stay in touch with your members and keep them updated. As mentioned earlier in this newsletter, divisions 1 to 12 will be having a fall rally in October. We will keep you updated! As the school year starts, and Key Club is more active, I plan to hold many in-person events. I will have games and workshops. Mainly, this will allow for members from different schools to get to know each other!

INTERNAL SERVICE SPOTLIGHTS GREAT NECK SOUTH This summer, Great Neck South High School Key Club board members and their LTG created a promotional video through zoom for the 8th graders. They talked about what Key Club is and what they have to offer.

They plan to have volleyball fundraisers and service activities like Christmas Operation and Valentines for Vets. The LTG contacted the middle school principal to share their video with the entire 8th grade. The board members and LTG hope to see many new members next year! Congratulations to Great Neck South High!

NORTH SHORE The Kiwanis Club of North Shore honors seniors for each of the10 months during the school year. The last three students of the Month were honored on Wednesday, June 8th at Nassau Country Club. Their parents also attend the awards ceremony. Student of the Month for April Alana Golden has an outstanding community service profile, she was the executive assistant and board member for Key Club. Alana participated in numerous food & coat drives as well as independently collected prom, dresses for Madonna Heights School for women. To finish her high school career, she was tapped at NSHS Moving Up The ceremony was a very prestigious selection at the high school.

For May senior Paige Shane was honored and nominated by various teachers; Tyler Bianco shared accolades of her being a warm-hearted student who always puts her friends, family, and community first, and is always the first person to volunteer in his class. Teacher Martin Abrams noted she is a thoughtful student and always willing to support any student to strive to improve the class as a whole. Lastly, senior Krista Eder was honored for June. Her teachers Allison Roth and Nicole Haddican noted she is a sweet young lady with the biggest heart and always willing to help others. Adviser Julia Salat noted she is a dedicated member of the Key Club with 181 hours of service to the community.

Some of Krista’s favorite volunteer events are St Rocco’s toy wrapping event, St Christopher’s Easter Basket donation, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, & Operation Christmas Child, and sending gifts to children in need worldwide. EXTERNAL SERVICE SPOTLIGHTS BRONX SCI (D11)

On July 4th, Bronx Science Key Club hosted their biggest fundraiser of the year - Water Wars! This annual tradition is filled with water balloon fights, field games, and pies in faces! This year, we played an ultimate game of red light green light, a relay race, a game of target practice, as well as three waves of water balloon fights, merch auctions, and auctions to pie co-heads and board members in the face! The Water Wars event gave Key Clubbers an amazing chance to get to know everyone- especially incoming freshmen! Members of all grades came from all over the city and some brought friends and family! We exceeded our goal of $1,500 in profit for UNICEF, an organization that strives to help underprivileged children all around the world live better lives by helping them get the education, food, and other resources they deserve. If you were unable to attend Water Wars this year, we encourage you to come next year for this fun-packed annual fundraiser!

Global Leadership Certificate Between the 32 Districts of Key Club International, New York District was announced to have the highest percentage of Key Clubbers to complete at least three courses as part of the KCI GLC platform.

ICON Speakers Sal Khan, the creator of Khan Academy and Schoolhouse, spoke about his passion for education and the history behind his mission while urging Key Club members worldwide to keep giving back to their families, schools, and communities.

Former U.S. Senator and NASA Administrator Bill Nelson joined Key Club members for a virtual luncheon where he gave an overview of NASA's most recent finding and talked about how KCI profoundly affected his life.

The convention's featured speaker, five-time Paralympic medallist Lex Gillette, shared a moving account of his path to the games. He highlights his catchphrase, "No Need for Sight When You Have a Vision," and exhorts everyone to look forward to gold as he does!
