LTG UPDATE Happy October everyone!

We're quickly entering the most beautiful time of the year, and I'm so excited for all the opportunities that this month has in store! First off, thank you so much to Springville for being the first to fill out their ERF for this year! Presidents - be sure to fill this form out so that I can share a personalized monthly report form with your secretaries! Also, MRFs for September are overdue, but make sure you keep filling out past forms. Lastly, it's dues season but - almost every single one of our clubs has already submitted them way ahead of time! Thank you so much guys - even if your clubs aren't meeting on a regular basis, this helps the district and Key Club International tremendously. Keep looking out for virtual Fall Rally 2020 registration, which should be coming out in the next couple of weeks. Have a wonderful month!!

YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES FUND now open!

If your club has an idea for an outreach project, but is in need of some funds to get it started, consider applying for a YOF grant!

Grants range from $250 to $2,000, and are given by the Kiwanis Children's Fund to Key Clubs and individual members - the money goes to pay for scholarships and service events.

Apply by October 15, 2020 by creating a Foundant account for your club - watch this video to learn how!

November 21 -22 1 pm -5 pm Join Key Clubbers from all over New York for a weekend of workshops, service, and fun! Four workshop blocks will give you the opportunity to customize your experience, and we'll come together for a keynote speaker, service project, and game tournament. You'll learn how to navigate the changing dimensions of Key Club, and prepare yourself for leadership within your clubs.

Up with People is a charity unlike any you've heard of. This traveling music performance group tours the globe with a mission of empowering youth to build a network of respectful, engaged, and understanding global citizens. They perform international and contemporary music & dance in countless venues and bring with them a message of hope & unity. By giving to this charity, you provide performance education to youth and allow them to create a more universal impact, as they go on to realize their individual capacity to make change, long after their tour is over.

Thirst Project is a nonprofit organization that works with the support of young people to END the global water crisis by building freshwater wells in developing communities that need safe, clean drinking water. By providing a community with safe drinking water, disease rates can drop by up to 88% virtually overnight, and child mortality rates can drop up to 90%!

GOVERNOR'S PROJECT Canines

Disabled

Kids

Each year, our District Governor selects a charity to consolidate our fundraising efforts as a district community. Canines for disabled kids provides scholarships for kids who need guide dogs, counseling for families who are considering a service dog, and education to schools and businesses worldwide. In doing so, CDK gives children and their families a sense of independence, and advocates for individuals with service animals.

Hope

Project HOPE strives to provide medical training in order to build a strong and resilient global community of health care workers. Its volunteers work to create long-term solutions rather than quick fixes in the areas of natural disasters, infectious diseases, maternal & child health, and health policy.

DISTRICT ENDORSED PROJECT Kiwanis Trauma

Pediatric Center

The Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center is a clinic located in Long Island, New York that is dedicated to serving unique care for children in extreme situations (e.g. trauma injuries). It also serves a number of other functions, such as outreach to parents and educational programs.

You can support this charity by raising $1,000 for a Trauma Kit, a child-sized ambulance equipment kit which is compiled to meet most on-scene emergency needs of children. The kits are donated to fire departments and ambulance services under the auspices of the local Kiwanis clubs in each community.

Hello! I am Lourdes, and this month I and a few other members of Maritime Key Club attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for WNY Maritime Charter School’s new school building on September 18th at 4 o'clock. We ended up volunteering until 6 o'clock, which is a total of 3 community service hours per person. I am really glad that I attended this service project because it allowed me to meet board members that make my education possible, and I normally would not get the opportunity to meet and thank them for everything that they do. It was also so much fun to see the smiles on so many people's faces, and I would and will do it again if I get the opportunity. Thank you to everyone else who made this event possible!
