Lieutenant Governor's Greeting Happy November Division 23, I know things have been a bit crazy recently with rising case numbers, college apps, and life in general. As cases rise please remember to wear a a mask and socially distance. As for our division, most clubs are unable to meet right now in person, which is very understandable. I recommend meeting through Zoom or Google Meets. As for paperwork, MRF submissions went from 80% last month to 60% this month. MRFs are not optional to fill out so please get them in even if they are late. This past weekend, I was on a 6.5 hour call with the board discussing the district and Fall Conference. Registration from our division is still low but I encourage you to sign up ASAP if you haven't yet. Thank you for all the perseverance you guys have had for Key Club. I look forward to doing some club visits in the future.

Governor's Project Canines for Disabled Kids

Canines for Disabled Kids aims to increase and insure independence for children with disabilities and their families through the use of service dogs, as well as understanding and awareness throughout the community. Canines for Disabled Kids offers free services to families to help connect children with the service dog that can best help them overcome restrictions caused by disabilities. The dogs help the kids increase their confidence! Please consider donating or focusing a service project around this wonderful cause!

District Project: Project Hope Project HOPE transforms the health of people and communities around the world.

They work on the front lines of the world’s health challenges, partner with communities, health care workers and public health systems in order to ensure sustainable change. Project HOPE aims to place power in the hands of health care workers to save lives worldwide. This is a great project for this year because of COVID19. Project HOPE helps healthcare workers worldwide and this is exactly the kind of place we should be putting our resources so that we can overcome this pandemic.

District Endorsed Projects Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease Foundation The Foundation started in 2000 when Kiwanis Gov. John Gridley wanted to helped you children with Lyme Disease. The Foundation helps pay for medical treatment since most insurance companies don't cover it, It is solely funded through donations and there are currently 27 active grants. You can help support by holding a fundraiser

Kamp Kiwanis

Kamp Kiwanis is a summer camp for special needs children and children with disabilities between the ages of 8 and 14 years old. Kamp us pay for through donations. This allows children the ability to go to a summer camp that is fun and affordable.

Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center KPTC "supports pediatric trauma efforts at the Cohen Children's Medical Center as well as programs throughout the area to protect the safely of children and improve the ability of local emergency services response teams". It provides funds and staff to care for suffering children.

International Partners Featuring: Thirst Project

"Thirst Project is a nonprofit organization that works with the support of young people to END the global water crisis by building freshwater wells in developing communities that need safe, clean drinking water". Water borne diseases kill more children every year than HIV, Malaria, and violence combined.

This is because children usually do not have strong enough immune systems to fight diseases like cholera and dysentery which puts them at much higher risk. Right now they are currently working in India, Uganda, El Salvador, and Kenya.

Mission: To empower volunteers and under-resourced communities to resolve global health, education, and economic disparities and inspire all involved to collaboratively work towards an equal world.

Core Values: Empowerment, holistic approach, scalability, sustainability, financial transparency, and collaboration.

Trick or Treat 4 UNICEF Trick or Treat for UNICEF began 70 years ago as a way to help kids that were affected by World War II. Every year, millions of children across the US go door to door on Halloween with UNICEF collection boxes. They collect money instead of candy for UNICEF. The tradition has helped raise over $175 million since 1950.

Dues: Early Bird, Regular, and Everything In Between Clubs need to pay dues for 11 members. Each member should pay a total of $13, $6 go to the district and $7 go to international. The deadline for Early Bird Dues has been pushed a month. So, to get Early Bird Dues you need to pay by December 1st. Membership materials for brand new members will be sent to the club address within 3-4 weeks of completing the online roster update and invoicing. In addition to the earlybird patch, Key Club International will also be giving away some prizes for clubs that pay dues early: a $100 Kiwanis Warehouse club certificate to spend on service project supplies, one comped hotel room to use at ICON 2021 at the Walt Disney World Resort, and surprise prizes throughout the two-month early-bird period. Regular dues are due February 1st. If you are struggling to get members to pay, I recommend that clubs either ask their sponsoring Kiwanis clubs for help paying dues or host a fundraiser. Raising money can help offset the price or get rid of it completely. It can be hard to get members to pay dues so these ideas can help with payment.To pay dues you need to have contact information for at least 11 members (email addresses and graduation year), then log on to the Membership Update Center (MUC) and update officers and club membership (add new members, retain returning members, and remove members who have left). Then submit payment online, or print the invoice and pay by check.

Key Club Week gives you the opportunity to show your community what Key Club is truly about: service. Each day places an emphasis on service, to promote Key Club within our homes, schools and communities and to make Key Club a household name. Here are the daily themes: MondayShow Your K (where Key Club Merch), Tuesday-Kudos to the Key Players (thank those who have helped you in KC), Wednesday- Dare to Share (Donate to KC preferred charities), Thursday- Random Acts of Kindness (self explanatory!), Friday- Connect the K's (collaborate with K Fam!).

Service Project Ideas District Webmaster, Kristen Lew, has created a list of ways to serve virtually. Here are some of the ideas from the list! You can find more ideas from Kristen's list on our Many Link! (many.link/nydkc23)

1. Write cards to frontline workers 2. Create paper and art crafts for children's hospitals 3. Record an audio for a book for children's hospitals 4. Tutor students in elementary and middle school 5. Host a virtual movie night fundraiser for an edorsed charity!

Service Spotlight Featuring: The Harley School At the Harley School every year for Halloween the seniors and the lower schoolers have a Halloween parade. This year it was unable to happen, while pictures of everyone dressed up were shown it was not the same. Harley Key Club through a Halloween event with the senior student council as a way for the lower kids to feel connected to the older kids. The lower schoolers were able to dress up and even decorate their cars with their family and then drive through the school parking lot with windows down and treat baskets out the window.

Upper school students gave candy and treats to the cars. Seeing the two communities find a way to come together was a great experience for everyone.

Many parents mentioned how thankful they were about the event and how their kids really enjoyed it. Harley Key Club is a great example of service projects inside a school community, and the impact it can have on everyone included.

Service Spotlight

Featuring: The Harley School Thanksgiving is a time for families and friends to come together, express their love and gratitude for each other and all they have. Unfortunately, many families don’t have the privilege of enjoying a heartwarming Thanksgiving dinner. As a way to help the Rochester community, the Harley School Key Club, along with the Dimitri House, has decided to donate Thanksgiving baskets to less fortunate families. These baskets contain the necessities for a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner, including turkeys, mashed potatoes, rolls, and much more. The Harley School Key Club has donated four baskets, each one designed for a family of six. We hope our contribution will help make a difference in the lives of the families receiving the baskets. We are grateful for this opportunity to help our community and that we have the resources and support to do projects like this. Happy Thanksgiving! -Aliyah Couch, Harley Member

Fall Divisional In our Fall Divisional in October, we had 3 clubs in attendance (Harley, Victor, and Brighton) and 6 members in attendance. We started off the meeting with the call to order, the pledges, and attendance, then we discussed offier training and Fall Conference!

Officer Training President- sets and monitors goals, runs club meetings, delegates task when necessary, recruits, trains, and retains members, communicates with club and LTG. Fills out the ERF VP- serves the president, club members, and other officers, create committees such as membership, scrapbook, and new projects.

Secretary- takes meeting minutes, takes attendance at all meetings and events, fills out the MRF, and tracks club goal progress.

Treasurer- collects money and helps advisor pay dues, monitors budget/money, leads fundraisers with President and club, and fills out the FRF after a fundraiser.

Webmaster/Editor- update and maintain club website and social media, advertise events online and with posters, keep members and outside sources informer about club's activities, opportunities, and deadlines, creates a monthly bulletin with updates and info.

Paperwork Chart

Monthly Report Form (MRF) This is filled about by the club secretary. It is due by the 10th of the following month. This is important so that the district can see how clubs are doing and where clubs are at, as well as help keep track of how many hours we have served.

Fundraising Report Form (FRF) This is filled out by the club treasurer. Fill out a couple days after a fundraiser. It helps the district to keep track of how much money we have raised for other organizations.

Election Report Form (ERF) This is filled out by the club president. It is to be filled out ASAP after your club holds elections. It asks for contact information for club officers. This is important so we can keep in touch with everyone.
