Lieutenant Governor's Greeting Happy October, Division 23!

The beginning of school just flashed by! I know everything is still really uncertain right now but try and hold meetings and events if your school district will let you! Harley Key Club did a great job organizing a fundraiser recently which you can read more about in the service spotlight. I will be holding another divisional October 25th at 7 pm.

We will discuss officer training and virtual events.

This divisional I hope to be more engaging and less lecturey so come ready to talk with other clubs!

New York Minute The summer edition for the New York Minute is out! The New York Minute is when our district Governor puts out video updates on our progress and future events with help from the Public Relations Committee. Governor's Project Canines for Disabled Kids

Canines for Disabled Kids aims to increase and insure independence for children with disabilities and their families through the use of service dogs, as well as understanding and awareness throughout the community. Canines for Disabled Kids offers free services to families to help connect children with the service dog that can best help them overcome restrictions caused by disabilities. The dogs help the kids increase their confidence! Please consider donating or focusing a service project around this wonderful cause!

District Project: Project Hope Project HOPE transforms the health of people and communities around the world.

They work on the front lines of the world’s health challenges, partner with communities, health care workers and public health systems in order to ensure sustainable change. Project HOPE aims to place power in the hands of health care workers to save lives worldwide. This is a great project for this year because of COVID19. Project HOPE helps healthcare workers worldwide and this is exactly the kind of place we should be putting our resources so that we can overcome this pandemic.

District Endorsed Projects Featuring: Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center "supports pediatrict trauma efforts as the Cohen Children's Meducal Center as well as programs throughout the area to protect the safety of children and to improve the ability of local emergency medical services response teams." It provides funds and staff to care for suffering children.

International Partners Featuring: Children's Miracle Network (CMN)

Key Clubbers work together to sponder fundraising events and conducting service projects at their local children's hospitals. Out local CMN hospital is Golisano Children's hospital. Clubs can invite a representative to a clup to share ideas and create a partnership. CMN helps to provide children and their families with financial aid to help pay medical expenses.

"Nickelodeon currently presents two major campaigns each year the encourage action in kids globally.

Worldwide Day of Play reinforces Nickelodeon's mission to make the world a more playful place by leading active, playful events across the what they can do to help protect the country. Nickelodeon's Get Dirty Campaign seeks to educate kids, families and teachers about what they can do to help protect the planet in fun, mindful ways."

Service Project Ideas District Webmaster, Kristen Lew, has created a list of ways to serve virtually. Here are some of the ideas from the list! You can find more ideas from Kristen's list on our Many Link! (many.link/nydkc23)

1) BeanBeanBean - answer trivia questions to earn money for food banks 2) dosomething.org - voice your activist opinions on global issues 3) Movie Night - host a virtual movie night through netflix party 4) Face masks - create face masks for underserved populations in need 5) Car wash- host a car wash and donate the funds raised

Service Spotlight Featuring: The Harley School Due to the pandemic, Harley Key Club was nervous of how service events and fundraisers would work. However, we just had our first very successful fundraiser event of the school year! We organized a three-hour long car wash and raised over $900! With the work of our club officers, advisors, and members, we were able to keep everyone safe and masked the entire event. The money we raised will go towards club dues and other future projects we plan to have the rest of the year. Such as partnering with Happy Birthday Cha Cha Cha to give birthday presents to inner-city children in the Greater Rochester area and Thanksgiving Baskets for families at the Demetri House to have a Thanksgiving meal. Harley Key Club is looking forward to another great service year and is very excited that our first service event of the school year was a success!

Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed fund of the Kiwanis Children’s Fund which provides grants to Key Club and Key Club members for scholarships and service opportunities. YOF grants can help you take action. Look around and identify service that needs to be done in your school, community or the world. Then apply for a grant.

Fall Rally This year Fall Rally will be looking a bit different. Instead of a conference with the divisions near us, it will be a district wide conference. Similar to SLC, there will be workshops and keynotes and service! It will be virtual from November 21st-22ned 1-5pm!

Trick or Treat for UNICEF Trick or Treat for UNICEF began 70 years ago as a way to help kids that were affected by World War II. Every year, millions of children across the US go door to door on Halloween with UNICEF collection boxes. They collect money instead of candy for UNICEF. The tradition has helped raise over $175 million since 1950.

Key Club Week

Key Club Week gives you the opportunity to show your community what Key Club is truly about: service. Each day places an emphasis on service, to promote Key Club within our homes, schools and communities and to make Key Club a household name. Here are the daily themes: Monday-Show Your K, Tuesday-Kudos to the Key Players, Wednesday- Dare to Share, Thursday- Random Acts of Kindness, Friday- Connect the K's.

KC Global Engagement Rally This event is designed for all Key Club members and advisors and focuses on the importance of civic involvement on a global scale. While we have faced a number of challenges over the past six months, this opportunity will allow members to engage with one another and be educated on several critical topics.

The rally will be October 24th at 1pm. Attendees will have an opportunity to hear from Key Club, Kiwanis and community leaders and Key Club alumni. We also are pleased to announce our keynote speaker — U.S. Senator Bill Nelson, a past Key Club International president. Break out sessions will include: Diversity and Inclusion, COVID-19 resources, service, and an overview of intenational districts. Paperwork Chart

Monthly Report Form (MRF) This is filled about by the club secretary. It is due by the 10th of the following month. This is important so that the district can see how clubs are doing and where clubs are at, as well as help keep track of how many hours we have served.

Fundraising Report Form (FRF) This is filled out by the club treasurer. Fill out a couple days after a fundraiser. It helps the district to keep track of how much money we have raised for other organizations.

Election Report Form (ERF) This is filled out by the club president. It is to be filled out ASAP after your club holds elections. It asks for contact information for club officers. This is important so we can keep in touch with everyone.
