Who is Hispanic?

Pew Research Center

September 12, 2024

Debates over who is Hispanic have often fueled conversations about identity among Americans who trace their heritage to Latin America or Spain.

So, who is considered Hispanic in the United States today? How exactly do the federal government and others count the Hispanic population? And what role does race play in deciding who counts as Hispanic?

The answers to these and other common questions here.

UNITED AGAINST HATE

Since 2017, the annual United Against Hate Week (UAHW) has grown into a core organizing moment across California as government municipalities, community organizations, and residents come together in solidarity. Diversity Coalition is proud to support the California Civil Rights Office and their CA vs Hate campaign this important week. Our county is excited to join hundreds of partners in a week of action and awareness.

Picture: Diversity Coalition receives signed resolution from San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors, recognizing and supporting United Against Hate Week.

Thank you Supervisor Jimmy Paulding for introducing this resolution!

Free support is available to victims and witnesses who report hate CA vs Hate is not affiliated with law enforcement and your report can be made anonymously, regardless of immigration status.

Your voice matters in the fight to reduce hate. Join us in our mission of making California a more safe and inclusive place for all

Since 2020 we have been consistently connecting the community with outstanding speakers and panelists through free public presentations throughout SLO County. See more events here.
