Idea
Transition: (0:0s)There is a gradual entance to the song transitioning to the first verse.
Variation: (0:8s) Use of singular notes compared to variations of multiple high and low notes (0.34s) which are in sync to create a harmonious melody. Adele's vocal range which spans over a low note of G3 to a high note of C5.
Theme : (1:32S) Low piano keys with Adele's deep vocal tone use contributes to a deep base giving a theme of darkness and mystery.
Structure: (1:32s)The chorus acts as the climax of the song being the most highest point in the song. A brief pause before the chorus adds emphasis.
Precedent Study
Transition: The glass ceiling in the transitional space featuring the outside sky connects the outdoor and indoor spaces. This allows smooth entrance and transition from the outdoor to indoor space.
Variation: This design displays variations in ceiling height and shape from low to high dome ceilings.
Theme: A dark ambience is created through dark monochromatic colour palette, a low ceiling with low lighting.
Structure: The Giesel Library is top-heavy structure as each level of the building increase in size which creates visual hierarchy.
Evaluate
Transition: The smooth entrance to Skyfall achieved by the gradual use of keyboard keys can be demonstrated by glass ceilings in transitional spaces.
Variation: Variations in vocal and key notes which span from low to high can relate to a low flat ceiling to a high dome ceiling.
Theme: Deep vocal notes and low piano keys in Skyfall potrays a dark mysterious theme. In architectural terms this may be described through natural light as it is manipulated through punctures in the ceiling.
Structure: Every verse/ structures resemble a level in a building which creeps up to the dramatic main chorus.
Design
Transition: I explored transitional spaces starting with less natural light at the entrance which would gradually increase.
Variation: Variations in ceiling height in a singular room can be demonstrated throught an angular ceiling, various floor levels, various ceiling heights and shapes aswell as stairways.
Theme: Natural light is manipulated through punctures in the ceiling, glazing, low and high windows aswell as small windows compared to large windows.
Structure: Floor heights increase as one further explors the room. Stairways, ramps, and different floor levels direct one upwards
Develop
In my final design, I looked into transition through a glazing in the first section of the room, which lets light from the outside seep into the space and creates a welcoming entryway. The angled split ceiling showcases varied ceiling heights from low to high. The stairway that is escorting the individual upwards is also parallel to the ceiling. The landing in the middle of the staircase serves as a momentary rest, emphasizing the dramatic climax. Due to the skylight and glazing that allow a tremendous quantity of natural light to fill the area, the final portion of the room is the area of greatest interest. .
