Help Guide Camden’s Next 15 Years

Camden Council is inviting the community to help shape the future of the Camden area, with the draft Camden Community Strategic Plan 2025–2040 and supporting documents now on public exhibition.

The draft documents were developed following extensive community engagement, with more than 1,700 people participating in surveys, pop-ups, workshops, forums and a design competition in late 2024.

Among the draft documents is the Draft Operational Plan 2025/26 and Budget. The $730 million draft budget will see the delivery of several new key projects and vital maintenance work continue across the Camden area.

They’re progressing major projects funded through the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program. Work is underway on 11 significant projects totalling $132 million, including the Camden Civic Centre Renewal and Upgrade, which will provide our area with an enhanced arts and cultural hub when it is completed in mid2025. Additionally, they are advancing the $23.1 million John Street Public Domain Upgrade & Activation project. Stage one community consultation and research took place in June 2024. The next phase will translate the community input into concept designs, with further opportunities for community feedback to come.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Ashleigh Cagney, said the community’s input is invaluable in shaping the vision for Camden’s future.

“This is a plan for the community, by the community,” Cr Cagney said.

“We’ve listened to what matters most to residents, businesses and local organisations – and now we want to make sure we got it right. This is your chance to review the draft and have your say.

“Every comment, idea and question help us better understand the needs and hopes of our community. By sharing your feedback, you’re helping guide Camden’s direction for the next 10 to 20 years.”

The draft Community Strategic Plan outlines the long-term aspirations and priorities of the Camden Local Government Area (LGA), centred around five key directions – Welcoming, Liveable, Prosperous, Balanced and Leading.

A range of supporting documents have also been developed to guide how Council delivers services, programs, infrastructure and financial planning over the coming years. These include:

• Draft Resourcing Strategy;

• Draft Delivery Program 2025/26–2028/29;

• Draft Operational Plan 2025/26 and Budget;

• Draft Revenue Policy;

• Draft 2025/26 Capital Works Program; and

• Draft 2025/26 Fees and Charges Schedule.

These documents are on public exhibition until Tuesday 13 May, and can be viewed:

• Online at Your Voice Camden;

• At Council’s Customer Service Centre in Oran Park; and

• At Camden, Narellan and Oran Park Libraries.

To view the documents and share your thoughts, visit http://yourvoice.camden.nsw.gov.au/csp-public-exhibition.

Happy Easter!

COMMUNITY WIN: GLEDSWOOD HILLS HIGH SCHOOL OPEN!

Happy Easter, Camden!

Live it Up Live it Green

I’m incredibly excited to announce that Gledswood Hills High School is open!

Wishing you all an egg-cellent holiday.

After 12 years of delays and broken promises by the former Liberal government, the new temporary high school has been delivered.

This Easter is incredibly special, as it converges with other religious holidays. In March and April, we have Christians, Orthodox Christians, Jews, Hindus, and Muslims all celebrating and observing religious traditions together. Although for vastly separate reasons, the proximity of these holidays – Ramadan, Holi, Passover, and Easter – all being celebrated demonstrate the diversity of our country.

Gledswood Hills High School will be operating out of Gregory Hills Primary School until 2027, when the permanent site for the high school is expected to open.

The variety of services, vigils, and ceremonies observed by Australians and Camden residents across this period demonstrates our nation’s multiculturalism. It’s lovely to have us all united together, regardless of belief.

Land has also been chosen for the permanent site for Gledswood Hills High School.

For those observing Easter, like me – I wish you a happy, safe, and holy Easter. These holidays are a great time to switch off and recharge. Be safe on the upcoming long weekend and enjoy the break.

As a former teacher, I know how important it is to have access to a great education at a local school, and I’m working hard to ensure that every child in our area is able to receive the best schooling experience they can.

Enjoy the holidays and stay safe over the break! If there’s anything you’d like me to address on your behalf, or anything I can assist you with, don’t hesitate to contact me at my office on 4655 3333 or at camden@parliament.nsw.gov.au.

This year, as Mother’s Day rolls around, it holds a special significance to me. For many years, Mother’s Day was a two-part event. The first part is the phone call to my mother, and to the women who have been mothers to me in my life. The second is a quick trip down memory lane as I recall some of my favourite Mother’s Days with my own daughter over the years and, if she’s not working away, perhaps a trip out for a meal together.

When the Minns Labor Government says that we want to ensure every student has access to a world class education, we mean it – and that’s pro

This year things have changed. My dearest mum has struggled with health problems, and we are left wondering just how many more Mother’s Days we will be gifted to celebrate with her. How can we make this one special? If this is the last one, what can we do to make it a joyful celebration, a memory to flood our hearts with love in the relentless repeat of Mother’s Days to come?

The most precious gift we can give our mothers is love and time. Work and life often distract us from the important things, one of them is our relationship with our mothers. They are always there and often taken for granted – until they are not there.

This year it is more important to me than ever to spend time with my mum. Time to really talk with her, to thank her for the time, the effort, and the boundless love she put in, particularly in times when I wasn’t particularly grateful, kind, or loveable. I know that if I asked her what she would wish for on Mother’s Day, she would ask for more time to spend with her family, her daughters and grandchildren.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate all mothers, those here with us, and those we hold in our memories. Mums raising children, stepchildren, grandchildren, foster children, adopted children, mums who lost children, those who long to be mothers and struggle with infertility. This day can be complicated, painful, and bittersweet, but may it also be filled with joy and love that never fades.

Australia’s most loved national fun run and walk, the Mother’s Day Classic (MDC), is primed for another record-breaking year, with organisers announcing a renewed commitment to funding research to reduce deaths and improve survival for breast and ovarian cancer.

Launching the 2025 Classic, Mother’s Day Classic Foundation (MDCF) CEO Zara Lawless welcomed new principal partner, AIA Australia, and an upswing in early event registrations, particularly in regional areas, which points to more than 90 locations hosting runs/walks nationally on Sunday, May 11.

Last Mother’s Day, more than 85,000 Australians gathered for the Classic in 75 locations nationally. Those numbers are on track to be exceeded in 2025 with early registrations at record levels.

Ms Lawless said the 28th Mother’s Day Classic, founded by Women in Super, will build on the relationship with the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF), which joined longstanding beneficiary National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) as part of an extended MDC family in 2024.

Every day in Australia, 63 people are diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer. Every day 12 people die from those two diseases. The MDC provides not only the hope that the day will come when no more lives will be taken, but the means to help fast-track that outcome.

The MDC is the largest donor to NBCF, having donated more than $46.1 million over the past 27 years, contributing around 20% of NBCF’s total research grant funding throughout that period. In that time the death rate from breast cancer in Australia has reduced by 35%.

Registrations are now open for the 28th Mother’s Day Classic at mothersdayclassic.com.au.

in Christopher Cartwright’s Sam Reilly series, and it does not disappoint! The book follows Sam Reilly and his circle of adventurous friends who are trying to stop the Relic Hunter from getting her hands on the Elixir of Life. If she succeeds, the Relic Hunter will use the Elixir to raise an army of ancient metallic insects that will wreak havoc on the world at her command. It takes all of Sam and his crews’ combined skills, planning and fancy Bond-like technology as they attempt to protect the unsuspecting tourist who stumbled across the Elixir accidentally while visiting an old church in Ethiopia, and prevent the Relic Hunter putting her plan into action.

The author brilliantly weaves twists and turns into every chapter and you never quite know what is around the corner. There are near misses, faked deaths, gotchya moments and sprinkles of humour as Sam and his crew navigate all the challenges to protect the tourist and foil the Relic Hunter’s plans. I also thoroughly enjoy how the author paints really descriptive pictures of the key locations in the story, which you can tell are the result of having researched those places and the folklore that surrounds them.

This was a highly enjoyable and unpredictable read. After enjoying this book so much I have started to read the Sam Reilly series from the beginning – but this book gives a really good flavour for the style of story you’ll get if you want to embark on the full adventures of Sam and his crew, which I highly recommend!

Oran Park Hotel Officially Opens

Oran Park Hotel, South Western Sydney's premier multimillion-dollar hospitality and entertainment precinct, is now officially open. Located in the vibrant heart of Oran Park, this expansive 7,500 sqm precinct, one of the largest in Australia, is set to become the Macarthur Region's go-to destination for world-class dining, entertainment, and unforgettable experiences.

Owned and operated by Momento Hospitality, renowned for their award-winning venues across New South Wales, Oran Park Hotel spans 3 levels, offering 7 bars, an all-day bistro, a central open-air atrium, pizzeria, bottle shop, and an Asian-inspired rooftop bar. Beyond its exceptional dining offerings, the precinct also boasts two boutique cinemas, a grand ballroom with multiple function spaces, and an indoor kids’ play area. Sustainable amenities, including EV chargers, solar energy, green roofs, and rainwater harvesting, reinforce the venue’s commitment to a responsible and future-proof design.

Construction of Oran Park Hotel began in November 2021 and was completed in just over 3 years, with the project totalling over $50 million. Led by Sydney architecture firm Archibiosis Architects, in collaboration with builder Versatile Construction, the hotel’s design seamlessly blends with the local landscape, drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of Oran Park – a suburb that has evolved from farmland into one of the region’s most dynamic and rapidly growing areas.

Art plays a defining role in the venue’s character, with a hand painted racing mural in the Sports Bar celebrating Oran Park’s rich motorsport heritage. Throughout the hotel, thoughtfully curated public art installations by emerging local artists contribute to its contemporary, dynamic atmosphere - blending creativity with the energy of the growing town centre.

Do You Worry Too Much?

Do you find yourself feeling frequently tense, exhausted, and overwhelmed? Have you noticed that you worry excessively whether it be about seemingly small topics such as getting a small task completed, to much larger issues, such as how we will cope with the increase in cost of living?

Worrying is something we all do as it is our minds’ attempt to problem solve. However, the consequences leave us far from any solution and we feel drained and irritable. When things that we care about become uncertain and unpredictable, our minds start to worry in order to gain clarity and remove the discomfort we feel from this uncertainty. We all need to feel a sense of control and certainty about our lives, and when this becomes compromised, we begin to worry.

Daily worrying can have adverse effects on our mental and physical health, often leading to stress which can compromise our immune system. Many people remain unaware of their excessive worrying habits and the effects this has on their lives and health. There are some steps you can take to address your worry.

Oran Park Probus in May

Seniors are among the hardest hit in the current cost of living crisis. The National Seniors Social Survey covered 5,700 people over the age of 50, nationwide. The results showed 90 per cent were concerned about keeping up with the rise of living costs. Health costs, energy prices and groceries emerged as the top three concerns. In a recent Club newsletter, we published the names of some price comparison websites so that many of our tech savvy members could compare prices online, and save on health insurance, electricity, household goods, groceries and fuel. The savings can then be put to good use in Probus Club activities!

Behaviour Changer for Worry

• Increase awareness - check in and notice when and how often you worry.

• Ask yourself what worrying is costing you in terms of your relationships, focus and wellbeing.

• Ask yourself whether you are thinking through a problem or whether you are going around in circles in your mind.

• Notice any emotional discomfort and try to engage in kind self-talk.

• Gently reorient yourself to the present moment.

• Engage in a practical behaviour that can help with the issue of worry.

• Determine what is within your control.

Record-Breaking Camden Show Draws Over 50,000 Visitors in 2025

The 2025 Camden Show has wrapped up as one of the most successful in its 139-year history, welcoming over 50,000 visitors through the gates across two spectacular days of country celebration on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 April.

This year’s Show brought together everything the community loves: tradition, community spirit, and great weather, with hundreds of smiling faces enjoying the biggest grand parade to date, record-breaking pavilion entries, and standout moments such as the heavy horse team pulling a wool wagon down Argyle Street in the Friday afternoon street parade.

Visitors also witnessed the official opening of the refurbished Pavilion by The Hon. Chris Minns, MP, and a spectacular fireworks finale presented by Camden Hire lit up the skies on Saturday night – a long-standing tradition much loved by locals and visitors alike.

Behind the scenes, more than 450 volunteers helped make the event possible. President David Dunbier and the Camden Show Committee extend their deepest thanks to every volunteer,

community group, sponsor and supporter who played a part in delivering the Show.

“We couldn’t do it without our incredible volunteers and the support of the Camden community. The energy across the grounds was incredible – it truly was a Show to remember,” said Mr Dunbier.

The atmosphere was echoed in feedback from attendees, with one first-time visitor sharing, “I had a fabulous time with my family – my toddler especially loved it! We’ll absolutely be back next year.” Others praised the classic country charm, saying it reminded them of “local shows of the 1950s and ‘60s” and called the experience “spectacular as always.”

The Show also saw friendly and bustling trade stalls, engaging entertainment, and a full program of agricultural competitions across horses, cattle, poultry, alpacas, arts and crafts and more – all contributing to the strong agricultural and community roots the Show is known for.

Planning is already underway for 2026, with the Show Committee reviewing feedback and continuously working to improve the experience for all.

Save the date: The Camden Show returns on Friday 20 & Saturday 21 March 2026 – two big days of family fun and all the country charm that makes Camden special.
