Santa Claus Is Coming........ to Oran Park Town The Oran Park Town Art and Craft Twilight Christmas Markets are coming on Saturday the 28th of November, from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at Oran Park Podium, 351 Oran Park Drive in Oran Park Town.

It seems like ‘new’ has been the theme of life in Oran Park since my family moved in on the last day of 2011. It’s been my privilege to watch our suburb growing each day. New houses. New roads. New shops. New schools. New families and - in lots of cases - new friends too.

Over a BBQ in early 2013 one of the residents I was chatting with shared how they’d moved from nightly police sirens to a place where it was safe to walk the streets at night and he’d built a new home in walking distance of the shops. He said that in a real sense he’d come to start a new life.

That idea of a fresh start is exactly what I had in mind when I began NewLife Anglican Church with my wife Carolyn and my associate Pastor Matthew and his wife Mandy almost 4 years ago. Why “NewLife” as a name? Not only is it the experience of everyone who moves into Oran Park but it’s also the aim of our church.

In a very real way I’d love our church on the hill with the bright and colourful tower and the ‘slippery dip roof’ to be a place where people can find a truly new life in Jesus. A life filled with lasting hope, built around a real community, and introducing people into a fresh start with their Creator.

You can get a taste for this new life at our PlayTime which we run for Mums and Carers of kids 0-5 years old. It’s filled with

stories, craft, and lots of fun and runs every Wednesday of school term time from 10am at the church.

I should also get a quick plug in for our Oran Park Community Carols on Saturday December 19th from 5:30-9:15pm. Book it in now!

Of course if you’d like to join us before then our Sunday service is at 10am and has a fantastic program for children from 2 up to year 7. You’re warmly invited.

Oran Park Hockey Club First Season Success!

Oran Park Hockey Club has successfully completed their first season. The club was founded by players who wanted to bring a family club to the Oran Park area. They started with a 1st Grade Mens Side, B Grade Ladies Side and an Under 7s Minkies. They were very competitive with their Mens side reaching the Semis and the Ladies reaching the Final. This was a great achievement in their first season.

The club has started a Junior base of Under 7s and are hoping to expand their Junior teams in each grade, Under 9s, Under 11s, Under 15s and even Under 18s in both Girls and Boys, while also growing the Mens and Womens teams.

Every weekend during the season, Oran Park Hockey Club play at Macarthur Regional Hockey Complex at Narellan, which is extremely convenient for families with no need to drive from one end of Sydney to another to play your games.

Before the majority of this work can start land must be cleared, buildings designed and foundations laid.

Now clearly when it comes to constructing a home (or any building for that matter) we put a lot of thought and time into the materials we will construct it from as well as ensure that the foundations are the correct ones for the shape of the block we are building on. We put in all this time and effort to ensure that the finished product is not only aesthetically pleasing but can stay standing for many years to come.

As sociologists tell us, just as we put in all of this time and effort into building our physical structures (such as our homes and businesses) it is equally important - and I would argue even more important - to also invest (both individually and collectively) in building up our community and laying good foundations in our personal lives and in our relationships with one another. As they say, we can live in the most beautifully constructed house and live in the most stylish and fashionable street but our 'true home' in which we live (aka our body) can be physically or emotionally or spiritually in ruin, and our daily lives can be without adequate foundations and supports to help us weather the storms of life.

As we see lots of buildings and other infrastructure being constructed around us I suppose the questions you and I can ask ourselves are: what 'foundations' are we constructing to ensure we can grow and build up our life and the lives of our families and community? What are the 'bricks' that we are laying to help us weather the storms of daily living?

St Paul, the author of many of the letters found in the New Testament of the Bible, offers us some great advice on the foundations we should put down and the sort of bricks we should lay. As he says we need to lay 'foundations' and 'bricks' of "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness, gentleness" (Galatians 5:22-24).

Whether we are Christian or not, I think St Paul's words are good advice for all of us as we both individually and collectively go about the construction of our homes and our lives.

Airport Update The Australian Government is committed to the Western Sydney region, where a new airport would be a major generator of economic activity—providing employment opportunities closer to home for Western Sydney's growing population.

Last month, the Australian Government released the draft Airport Plan and the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for community consultation.

The draft Airport Plan and draft EIS will be on public exhibition for a period of 60 days, finishing on 18 December 2015. During the public exhibition period any person, group, corporation or agency can submit comment on the airport proposal. A copy of all comments received on the draft EIS will be forwarded to the Department of the Environment for consideration.

Comments received during the exhibition period on the draft EIS will be taken into account in the process of finalising the EIS. Comments received on the draft Airport Plan may also be taken into account in the process of finalising that document.

Electronic versions of the draft Airport Plan and the draft EIS are available on the Western Sydney Airport website. Oran Park Smart Work Hub

The Oran Park Smart Work Hub is located in the commercial tower at Oran Park Podium Shopping Centre, South West Sydney’s newest shopping centre. It offers a modern workspace and professional network for people who can work remotely from their normal office. It’s an opportunity to swap the commute for working closer to home, or to connect with others who are growing businesses in the region.

The Oran Park Smart Work Hub welcomed its 55th member this month after steady membership growth month on month since its launch in November, 2014.

First impressions of the Smart Work Hub are proving to be positive with 87% of visitors joining as members.

Carefully wrap a piece of bacon around each sausage, starting at one end and using halved toothpicks to secure at both ends.

Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Cook bacon wrapped sausages for 6 mins, turning until bacon is crispy and sausage is cooked through. Transfer to a plate. Remove toothpicks.

Preheat a grill on high. Cut hot dog rolls almost all the way through. Place a sausage in each hot dog roll. Top with capsicum, jalapeno pepper and sprinkle with the Mexican cheese. Place under grill for 2-3 mins or until cheese melts. Top with avocado and barbecue sauce.

Fridge Buyback Saves Residents on Power Bills The Fridge Buyback Scheme, which has collectively saved Camden Council residents over $150,000 on their power bills, is back and available for Camden residents to access.

Over the seven years the scheme has been running, 503 fridges have been collected, degassed and recycled in the Camden Local Government Area through this program.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Lara Symkowiak said this is a fantastic initiative that not only helps the environment, but also saves money for residents.

“Old fridges and freezers can cost residents around $300 a year to run. This program is a great way for residents to reduce greenhouse gas and save on power bills.”

“Since Council has supported the program, Camden residents have saved 4,024 tonnes of greenhouse gas. This is a great result and with more residents participating in the scheme, we can further increase this number.” Cr Symkowiak said.

The Fridge Buyback Collection: • A $15 rebate is paid for collection from homes with six steps or less • Collection is free, using professional removalists (but no rebate is paid), where collection involves between seven to 20 steps • A fee will apply only if the property has more than 20 steps • Fridges or upright freezers must be a working second appliance that has been in regular use and is 200 litres (7.06 cubic feet) or more in size • There are regular collection runs every few weeks It is estimated that there are more than 5,600 second fridges in the Camden Local Government Area. Residents could enjoy a combined saving of more than $1.8 million annually if they no longer operated a second household fridge.

Super – Have You Got Enough?
