εντοσ αστικου ιστου The area of Tauros, and specifically a part which belongs to the block 52 (Peiraios, Chris. Smirnis, Klazomenon, Anaksagora), was chosen for the development of a housing complex, that consists of 81 apartments and other public uses necessary to the inhabitants. The fact that the area is close to the center of Athens and properly connected with public transportation makes it suitable for this kind of addition. Also, it combines some other positive elements, such as the fact that it is close to the commercial and administrative center of the neighborhood and it is surrounded by green areas, which belong to the housing blocks that were constructed by the state. There are also some old industrial buildings with important architectural value, worthy of being preserved. The housing complex could be constructed by the public domain, continuing the tradition of such decisions in the area, or alternatively, by the private sector, that would intend to construct houses for low and medium incomes, following the radical transformations that occur lately on Peiraios street, which could eventually result to the rise of the values in the area. At the moment, the block contains different housing types, some uses that cannot be easily combined with the existence of houses (such as transportation companies etc.) and old industrial buildings that are protected, in order to be preserved. This led to the decision that the unsuitable uses are taken away and substituted by the housing complex. This addition is trying to connect the existing nearby buildings with each other, through the common use of their public open spaces, so that the block can function as an entity.
