Peace talks seem unlikely in the invasion of Ukraine

As the invasion enters its th month, the chance of peace talks between Ukraine and Russia seems strenuous.

Earlierthisyear,VladimirPutindemandedthe total annexation of certain Ukrainian territory beforeheenteredintopeacenegotiationswith thenation.Recently, intheRussianinvasionof Ukraine, Putin officially annexed certain regions of Ukraine, claiming them to be Russian territory. The Russian President claimedthattheseannexationswerelegitimate by holding a poll with the citizens in those regions, however it is widely suspected that thesepollswerefraudulentanddonotactually represent the citizen desires. The fraudulent actions have been largely condemned as illegal underinternationallaw.

In a press conference, United States President JoeBidenstatedthatheiswillingtomeetwith Putin, but only if the Russian president indicates that he will stop his invasion. At this point, Putin’s forces are fighting to take back theregionsthatheoriginallyinvaded.

Gift ideas for the holidays

There is always stress around the holidays to get just the right thing. Luckily, Digest has a few ideas!

Scholz was on a phone call with the Russian Presidentthatlastedforaboutanhour.Thecontents of this call have not been made public, but their existenceraisesquestionsaboutthestatusofthewar. Germany has supported Ukraine by providing weapons to support the war effort, and has been one of the leading countries in helping Ukrainian refugees only behind Poland. Germany, as of August of , has accepted over thousand Ukrainian refugees.

Currently the war is entering its tenth month and winter is beginning to set in, which is likely to slow down fighting, but Putin has not indicated at this time that he intends to stop his invasion, despite beingpushedbackoncertainfronts.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has indicated that he is open to entering into “genuine peacetalks”withRussia. However,in

September, Zelensky said that he would enter into peace talks with the next president of Russia, not Putin.Giventhatwesternallieshavebeenpressuring Zelensky to enter into negotiations to bring the invasiontoanendgiventhestrainithasbroughton

However, Zelensky has stated however that certain conditions must be met before peace talks can start. Axios reports that these terms include the complete restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity. Punishment of war criminals involved with the invasion, and compensation for the damage inflicted bytheinvasiononKyiv.Zelenskyhassaidthatthese terms are “completely understandable,” however it is veryunlikelythatMoscowwillaccepttheseterms.

A lead spokesperson for Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov has said that Russia is prepared to enter into peace talks, however Ukraine is not. Putin has also said that Russia will not negotiate over the four regions that Russia has annexed and claimed as Russia. A term that Ukraine will probably find to be unacceptable.

Atthemoment,Itseemsthatanegotiatedpeacewith Russia is unlikely, however not impossible. The month long invasion has left Ukraine in ruins and even with recent victories by Ukraine it is expected that the harsh Ukrainian winters will slow down both sides. Maybe this means that Russia would be more willing to negotiate all territories involved in theinvasion.∎

Intersession this Year

Januaryisjustaroundthecorner, andforallof Discovery High School, that means Intersession starts. Last year had many faults—students could be seen aimlessly wandering halls, sitting and wondering what todoafterbeinggiventoomuchtimefortheir passion projects, or desperately attempting to complete their project in too little time given. Luckily, changesarecomingthisyearthatwill besuretoimprovestudentexperiences.

Johnna Christensen, a teacher at Discovery High School, gave her opinion on what she would’ve changed. “Last year, if I was in full control I would have graded [the passion projects] throughout the Intersession,” Christensenstated.

Christensen thought that passion projects throughout the Intersession would be beneficial for students to stay on track. The lack of intermittent grading lead many students to not follow the thorough calendar putoutbyteachersbecausetheyhadnoreason to. Checking in on students and grading throughout the Intersession would reinforce the idea that they should stay on track and remaindiligentwhencompletingtheirpassion projects.

A day during Intersession will technically be eight periods, however, many of these periods mayfeelcombinedintoone.ThisIntersession, students will be able to decide what classes they need to take for their passion project. Whether they schedule full days of project timeoranexpanseofworkshops, studentswill beinchargeoftheirentireday.

Last year, workshops were countless. Dance, UFOstudies, theHistoryofRock, andmany more were available. Despite these workshopsbeingfunandinterestingoverall, many felt they didn’t help passion projects. This year, teachers wanted workshops to be catered towards students’ passion projects. The idea this year, is that scholars would go to sewing workshops if they wanted help with sewing machines or stitching, or technical workshops if they wanted help coding, soonandsoforth.

Anotherwaystudentswillbeabletostayon trackwhilecompletingtheirpassionprojects will be the new magnitudes of control they have over the time dedicated to them. Last year, there were extreme differences in the amount of time required for projects. This lead to some being board and some being over-stressed. With the planned system, students will construct their days through scheduling resource Edificiency. This website will make it so students can plan their time day-by-day instead of weekly, hopefully making it easier on them compared to last year, where it was necessarytoplanawholeweekinadvance.

Also, thisIntersession, studentswillhavethe opportunity to reassess their grades, because the grading period has not technically ended until after Intersession. This will allow students to bump up their grades for all standards, andnotjustonesthatstudentsare working on right now, however those will beabletobereassessedaswell.

However, similar to last year, students will stillneedtotakemandatorymathclassesand year long classes, so if you’re in a spanish class, you will need to take spanish. Similar to music classes. However students will still need to sign up for these mandatory classes throughEdificiency.

Ghost mistreated at the American Music Awards

Band’s seating mislabeled completely among other misdeeds/mistreatments.

The American Music Awards took place on Nov. , , rewarding Ghost, a rock band recognized for their intricate lore and musical talent, with the coveted Favorite Rock Album award among other music-related groups and people. However, fans called Ghost’s experience that day mistreatment after certain instances went viral.

Photographers did not know the name

of Tobias Forge, the band’s lead singer—opting to call him Mr. Ghost instead. On top of that, Ghost’s assigned seating was mislabeled with another band’s picture.

The untelevised reward for Favorite Rock Album came with more carelessness from producers than the two viral examples. Ghost was not told of their reward’s untelevised status, leading some fans to question if their prize was even worth the travel for Forge.

Local year-long fan Haylee Kohler expressed an extreme amount of distaste for how Ghost was treated. In an interview with Digest, Kohler stated, “I think if you’re going to host an award show and invite them, you should at least know their names.”

Hello Neighbor franchise maintains controversial legacy

On Dec. , , Hello Neighbor 2 was released. It quickly sparked controversy from fans. The game is a sequel to the game, Hello Neighbor, which receivednegativeattentionaswell.

Hello Neighbor 2 was released on Dec. , and was made by Eerie Guest Studios, whose specialty appears to be the Hello Neighbor franchise moving forward.Atthetimeofwriting,Dec. , ,there are reviews for Hello Neighbor 2 on the game marketplace Steam. It currently has a percent rating, with many negatively-oriented analyses of theexperiencepresent.

A highly-awarded review by Steam user AidanDesigns states, “ days before the release of Deluxe Edition the short and long descriptions of this game were drastically changed to remove any mentionofthehighly

anticipated locations such as the Golden Apple AmusementParkthatwerepromisedtous.”

In his analysis, AidanDesigns also states, “This game is absolutely not worth the price it is being sold at in its current state [$ dollars] especially considering the main/base game can be entirely completedfromstarttofinishinroughly hours.”

As his final verdict, AidanDesigns stated, “this game should have been in the oven for at least another months.”

The original Hello Neighbor was released by tinyBuild and developed by Dynamic Pixels. In it, you played as a homeowner who lived across the street from their suspicious neighbor, who was hidingsomethinginhisbasement.Thegoalwasto navigate through his expansive and puzzle-ridden home to find what secrets lay dormant on its bottomfloor.

One of the game’s biggest selling points was that the Neighbor would learn your most common methodsofbreakingintohishouseoverthecourse of the game and adapt against them, which gave it immense popularity upon the first build’s release. Unfortunatelyforthepromisinggamedesign, after morealphaversions, theNeighbor’s

house got more floors and an increased square-footage. No matter how advanced it was advertised to be, the Neighbor’s AI couldn’t effectivelynavigateitsowncomplicated,maze-like and large environment. Coupled with the Neighbor’s tendency to get stuck in furniture, it turned the titular antagonist into an easily-dealt-withbackgroundmechanic.

Alpha three, the third full build released to the public, marked the biggest and most ambitious house yet—sparking criticism and distaste from the community. Fans had often criticized the lackluster physics engine of alphas one and two, although it had mattered little to the puzzle-based gameplay. However, in alpha three, parkour and movement became huge aspects of the game withoutnoticeablechangestothephysics.Though fans hated this new map for its gameplay principles, the developers used it for the next alphas, and continued its use in the game’s final build. Upon the final release, Hello Neighbor would be so poorly-made that glitches would lock paid customersoutofcompletingit. To Hello Neighbor’s supporters, it seemed as though the developers refused to fine-tune their ideas, deliver on promisesmadeorlistentofancriticism.∎
