Miners' tribute
Friday 8th September 4-6pm
Miner Statue to Wheal Uny
The festival kicks off with a celebration of all the miners who worked in mines at home and abroad and it’s set to be a great start to the festival. Working with local miners, storytellers and musicians, there will be a moving tribute to the heritage of Redruth.
This is an event dedicated to the men and women who worked the mines of past, present and future. Cobweb Tours will lead a storytelling walk departing the Miner statue in town at 4pm, along the route there will be some fascinating Redruth tales told with the Redruth Festival band playing tunes along the way The walk ends at Wheal Uny Mines where the miners will gather and share their stories and tributes will be told through music and dance before the evening culminates with the engine houses being smoked once again.
This event is free but space and parking is limited at the site. Wheal Uny is located at: Redruth TR16 6RP / what3words: ///emporium.goal.spirit
*Please note, the route and mining terrain isn’t level and unfortunately not accessible for all and we would recommend suitable footwear. All timings are approximate depending on numbers on the day and the event is weather dependent.
If you would like to view the stack smoking from a distance, there are many great viewing points around the area from Redruth, Carn Brea and Carn Marth.

If you’re wondering what’s happening to the Buttermarket, Pasty Saturday will be the ideal time to find out in person. Redruth Revival CIC are hosting hard-hat tours of our historic Buttermarket site on 9th September, for anyone who’d like to see some previously hidden parts of our special buildings. Our construction team are hard at work restoring and transforming these buildings - the Buttermarket complex, Mining Exchange, and Wheal Peevor Purser’s Office - to help us achieve our goal of breathing new life into the town centre.
When the buildings re-open in 2024 they’ll be a place to meet, eat, work and play, with the Buttermarket Kitchens bringing tastes of the world to town, with artisan workshops, workspaces, markets, events, and entertainment too.
Our small-group tours will start from the Buttermarket courtyard at 12 noon, 1 pm and 2 pm. It’s first-come-first-served and we can provide hard hats, but please be aware there will be uneven ground, so do wear sturdy shoes. Whether you want to take a tour or just find out more about our plans, members of the Redruth Revival Team will be on hand to answer your questions and, if you’re interested, you can sign up to receive our newsletters

DISCOVER REDRUTH
Rediscover Redruth Trail
We have just launched our second Digital Town Trail. The Rediscover Redruth Trail is an interactive, family friendly trail, around Redruth that encourages participants to discover Redruth’s heritage and rediscover the innovation of today. Hosted digitally on Geocaching’s Adventure Lab app participants can use their phones to complete the trail learning fun facts about Redruth and answering some simple trivia questions a long the way. The trail is extensive so splitting the trail up into more manageable sections or driving between points may be preferred.
