Explore Saint Jo And It’s Square
Story & Photos By: Laura Bradley

Located on Highway 82 just west of I35 sits the oldest town in Montague County, the small North Texas town of Saint Jo. Saint Jo is known as the North Texas Hill Country for its vast hilly regions and various wineries throughout. Visiting Saint Jo is like taking a step back in time when things were slower, more relaxed and Saturdays were spent visiting the Town Square.
My husband Greg and I recently visited Saint Jo’s quaint and cozy square and every business we went into, we were welcomed and made to feel like they had known us forever. The people in this small town are so friendly and welcoming, they make you want to spend a whole day there!

Our first stop was Windmill Saloon and Grill. Walking through the front door was like taking a step back in time. Old creaky wood floors, classic country music playing, mis matched tables and chairs line the western mural covered walls, a small dance floor in front of a stage where live music is often played, and right in the middle of it all sits an old antique bar that will take your breath away The atmosphere is dark and cozy and truly reminiscent of an old timey saloon. They offer daily specials and cold beer on tap and the best customer service you could ask for. After we ate our burgers at the Saloon, we ventured down the sidewalk to see what the rest of the square had to offer and boy were we surprised! We have driven through Saint Jo’s square numerous times but never took the time to actually visit it until this day. There are so many businesses and shops scattered all around it.
