We would like to acknowledge that the Miramichi Region is situated in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the ‘Treaties of Peace and Friendship’ first signed with the British Crown in 1726. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized an ongoing relationship between nations. We are all Treaty People.

The history of the communities that compose our city is drawn from centuries of stories and a huge cast of one-of-a-kind personalities. Character Matters Miramichi presents a series of character-guided community tours, available by pre-arranged booking ($100). Amble through Scenic Nelson, stroll through Downtown Newcastle, see Historic Chatham, or walk through lower (Douglas) town. Walk the stately streets of each community, and learn a little more about the uncommon sights and unlikely characters.

The campfire tale you heard long ago will unfold before you with passion, and the stories you hear will linger in the imagination. The cove is alive, as voices from the past return to celebrate one of the province’s oldest ghost stories. It is said that truth is stranger than fiction, but this legend might well be the exception. DUNGARVON WHOOPER EXPERIENCE
Join the search; solve a mystery! What is hiding in the woods of the Southwest Miramichi? A man? An animal? Something beyond our understanding?
