his is the month, of course, when we mothers are allotted by our partners and families a full day of doing nothing...

A whole day in which we are spoilt rotten with flowers, chocolates, and perfume (especially if someone had actually ‘underdone’ the Valentine’s Day gift-fest last month!) Tell me if you think I’m dropping too big a hint here!

Seriously, we do not expect the earth on Mother’s Day. It’s just lovely to get some recognition, whatever form that may take, for all our multi-tasking abilities and for our levelheadedness and calm when the waters of the family home may sometimes get a little choppy!

It was the American novelist, Peter De Vries, who suggested that “a mother's role is to deliver children obstetrically once, and by car forever after." How true! Enjoy your day, girls, and enjoy this month’s issue.

Is it me or are things starting to look a little more positive?

Two years after the Government issued the first ‘stay at home’ instructions because of the COVID-19 pandemic, as I write this new cases, hospital admissions and deaths are now falling and life is starting to feel more normal.

Things locally also seem to be more buoyant as more events are being announced for the coming months.

This coupled with the start of British Summer Time on March 27th gives one cause for greater optimism.

Let’s hope the Summer of 2022 is one to remember and the weather gods smile on us… we deserve it!

ays are lengthening and clocks “spring” forward an hour on March 27th. The increase in hours of light triggers new growth and not just crops, but weeds! Dig out any perennial weeds and hoe regularly.

•

The soil should start to warm up this month; to help increase soil warmth, cover the plot in • plastic or use cloches. Keeping your soil at its best involves adding decaying plant matter • such as compost or manure. Try splitting your plot into thirds: one third heavily enriched, (good for potatoes, peas, beans etc and salad crops); one third topped with a mulch of good • compost, (which will suit onions, cabbages, leeks, broccoli etc); one third unenriched, • (for root crops such as parsnips and carrots).

If you want to grow asparagus, now is the time to prepare your bed and plant the crowns by digging a trench twelve inches deep and adding some well-rotted manure. Make a four-inch ridge at the base and spread the roots of the crown over the ridge, replace the soil, leaving the tips just visible. Water in and add mulch. Leave the asparagus for two years before actually harvesting – it’s well worth the wait!

Other jobs to do: • Lettuces and other salad crops can be sown either indoors or outdoors under cloches or in cold frames. Tomato and cucumber seeds can be sown indoors at the end of the month.

of the ripening season, sow aubergines, chillies, and peppers indoors.

Herbs such as rosemary and sage will benefit from a good trim and chives and mint can be propagated by dividing them and re-planting.

Plant out onion and shallot sets – last chance to plant garlic.

Early varieties of carrot, beetroot, spring onions, peas, chard, parsnips, spinach,and broad beans can be sown into the open ground but may need to be under cover.

Last chance for planting bare-rooted fruit trees and bushes.

Feed and mulch fruit trees –fertilise the base, water in and then cover with well rotted manure or compost to act as a mulch.

Check cabbages for caterpillars and pick off.

Remove dead leaves from cabbages and Brussels.

Don’t forget to feed your over-wintered crops such as onions, kale, spring cabbage – use blood, fish and bone meal, chicken manure or seaweed–based organic fertiliser.

Prepare seed beds by raking over to a fine tilth and add fertiliser.

• Early potatoes can be planted out if the ground is not frozen, from mid-March to early April but it is well worth covering them to protect them from the late frosts.

Flexible or Phased Retirement

n this month’s article I would like to discuss phased, early and flexible retirement; all terminologies used when people are considering their choices when thinking about retiring. One of the biggest considerations at this point is how to fund the chosen lifestyle when work stops.

Recently, this has been a hot topic with a lot of my clients wanting to discuss how to achieve financial security going into retirement.

When you are planning to retire, it is important to know what pension provision you have in place and what sort of pension you have been paying into. Knowing what retirement plans you have will enable you to make the right decision about your retirement and what is a good choice for your circumstances. Also, as part of this process it is also good to consider what state pension you will be eligible for. Under current legislation the actual amount of state pension you receive depends on your national insurance record.

There was a fundamental change introduced by George Osborne in 2015 called pension freedom.

This legislation has revolutionised how people plan for retirement because it offers them more flexibility and choices as to how they fund their retirement.

If you are considering retiring early or taking some money out of your pension pot to fund a hobby etc., please do talk to a qualified financial advisor who can help you navigate choices available to you and the relevant tax implications.

Under current legislation you can take money out of your pension pot from the age of fifty-five. This is due to rise to age fifty-seven by 2028.

Normally, the first 25% of your pension pot will be tax-free then the remaining pot is treated as income for tax purposes and is treated like any other income and taxed accordingly.

Again, as mentioned above it is important to understand any tax implications that affect your circumstances.

As well as a financial implication, I find retirement is a big life event for most people and can be an emotional time as well.

Tax Changes Happening In 2022 That May AFFECT YOU...

I

n the Autumn Budget 2021 the Chancellor announced tax changes due to come into play in April 2022. The two

main changes are the National Insurance threshold and rate change along with the increase to dividend tax rates. There is also a change to Capital Gains Tax reporting on the sale of a property. Kayleigh Wilson ACCA CTA, tax expert at Stephenson Smart, examines these changes and what they might mean for your finances.

National Insurance threshold and rate changes National Insurance rates are set to rise by 1.25 percentage points from April 6th, 2022, as part of the Government’s plan to introduce a health and social care levy where working people contribute to fund the NHS and the social care crisis.

In 2022-23 this will be taken along with the rest of your National Insurance payment, but the plan is to officially split out the levy from April 2023.

April 2023 will also be the point where the levy is paid by those who are above state pension age, but still in work.

The National Insurance lower earnings limits will increase by 3.1%. The upper earnings threshold, however, is being frozen at £50,270.

Dividend tax rates to increase Similarly to the National Insurance rate rises, those who earn money from dividends will also see a 1.25 percentage point rise from April.

you earn above the dividend allowance, which is £2000 in 2022-23, unchanged from 2021-22.

Those with investments held in an ISA wrapper – such as a Stocks and Shares ISA – are tax-free and so won’t be charged dividend tax.

Capital Gains Tax reporting extended The time period within which taxpayers must report the gain and pay the tax owed after the sale of a property has increased from thirty days to sixty days.

This means anyone who makes a capital gain after selling a second home or buy-to-let property will need to submit a residential property return to HMRC and make a payment on account for the estimated tax owed within sixty days of the gain being made.

This is only for properties sold on or after October 27th, 2021. If you sold property between April 6th, 2020 and October 26th, 2021, you would have had to report and pay the CGT within thirty days.

It’s important to make sure you’re aware of the latest tax changes so you can plan ahead and avoid any fines for getting it wrong.

NEW FIRE SAFETY BUSINESS

A

new company has been formed to carry out fire risk assessments and fire door inspections at local business premises.

Flame Safety Limited has been set up by Kevin Harris, a dedicated fire safety professional, to deal with the compliance requirements of businesses in the Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Lincolnshire area.

The 48-year-old fire risk assessor, who is based in March, started his career in fire safety as a fire safety inspecting officer with London Fire Brigade, before going on to work for several fire safety companies conducting fire risk assessments and fire door inspections on a variety of premises, both commercial and residential.

By Eileen Le Voi at Safe Local Trades The worst of the winter weather may be over, but with ongoing headlines of utility bill hikes and more of us permanently working from home, how can we save money? Popping on the kettle for that extra cuppa, keeping the chill off during daytime hours and having the TV or radio on while we work all have an impact on our energy usage.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, the cost of living is at its highest level in a decade, with household energy bills being the largest expense. The recent gas crisis has pushed energy bills up by well over £200 since last winter and they’re expected to rise again in April. While there are some government grants that can be applied for, here are a few simple but effective energy-saving tips: • Turning down your room thermostat by just one degree can save around £60 a year.

• A fully draught-proof home could save around £25 a year.

• Boilers account for around 55% of what is spent on energy bills in a year.

• Turning off the lights will lead to a £15 a year saving but switching to LED bulbs will save £40 a year.

• Laptops, TVs, and game consoles account for around 7% of your energy bill.

• A single computer and monitor left on 24 hours a day will cost around £45 a year. Switching them off out of hours and enabling standby features could reduce this to less than £10 a year each and prolong the lifespan of equipment.

• A dripping tap can waste more than 5,500 litres of water a year, so make sure your taps are properly turned off and change faulty washers promptly.

• Fitting your hot water cylinder with an insulating jacket will save you £20 a year in heating costs and 110kg of carbon dioxide emissions.

• Your room thermostat should be set between 18°C and 21°C. If you only have a single room thermostat for the whole house, for every degree you increase the temperature, it will increase the heating bill by about 10%.

• Getting younger family members to play their part too can promote energy saving awareness that will lead to cheaper utility bills.

Buyer Beware

I

f you have sold a property recently you will almost certainly have completed a Sellers Property Information Form. This form contains details about your ownership of the property and covers matters from boundary issues and building works to septic tanks and services shared with neighbours.

The forms are detailed and are designed to provide as much information as possible to a person that is looking to purchase the property. So, what happens if the information on these forms or the answers given to questions asked by the buyer are not entirely accurate?

Well, the consequences for both buyer and seller can be serious; for the buyer there is frustration and distress when they realise there are problems with their new home that they were not made aware of; and the seller may well find themselves subject to a claim for misrepresentation.

Misrepresentation is where one party to a contract makes a false statement that leads the other party to enter into that contract when they otherwise might not have done.

There are three types of misrepresentation: innocent, negligent and fraudulent.

Fraudulent Misrepresentation This type occurs when a false representation has been made knowingly, or without belief in its truth, or recklessly as to its truth. For example, the seller that claims there have been no disputes with their neighbours when they know full well the man nextdoor has threatened many times in the past to chainsaw their conifers unless they cut them back.

Negligent Misrepresentation If a seller makes a statement that is careless or for which they do not have reasonable grounds for believing it to be true, then they can be accused of negligent misrepresentation. There is no need for the buyer to prove fraud. Once the statement has shown to be false, it will be for the seller to show they reasonably believed it was true.

Innocent Misrepresentation This last type occurs if a seller gives information that they believe to be true when it isn’t. So, the seller that genuinely believed they did not need building regulation approval before they knocked down an internal wall to extend their kitchen when in fact they did, could be guilty of this type of misrepresentation. If a seller is found to have acted in a way that amounts to misrepresentation the court can award damages or in certain circumstances the contract might become completely void.

The Lesson To Be Learnt Honesty is always the best policy. In any transaction, a seller should be transparent in dealing with the buyer and their solicitor. If there is an issue with your property that is worrying you, tell your solicitor straight away. The chances are they will be able to advise on how to rectify the situation before it becomes a major problem that could cost you even more money if you try to hide it.

POLITICIANS UPDATED ON TOWN CENTRE PLANS Government leaders have visited March town centre to hear about the progress being made on the town’s transformational Future High Streets Fund work.

Steve Barclay, MP for North East Cambridgeshire, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for the Cabinet Office, and Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, visited the town with Fenland District Council leader Cllr Chris Boden, deputy leader Cllr Jan French, and portfolio holder for social mobility and heritage, Cllr Chris Seaton, along with March deputy mayor and town councillor Ray Jack.

The visit was an opportunity for the district council to showcase the plans for its £8.4 million March Future High Streets project and explain more about the individual regeneration schemes for Broad Street, the riverside, Market Place and Acre Road area.

The group discussed how the ‘once in a generation’ project will enhance existing assets to create new and inclusive spaces for locals, businesses, and visitors, and heard how grant funding will be used to help property owners bring vacant shops into use and assist in the conversion of upper floor space into town centre living.

Cllr Chris Seaton said: “We were delighted to update the Mayor and MP on the progress being made with the project and discuss in detail the areas that will benefit from this fantastic investment.

The pandemic has taught us more than ever how important it is to build back better high streets, support local businesses, improve the public realm, and celebrate pride in local communities.

The five transformational projects being delivered through the programme by the end of March 2024 are: • Transformation of Broad Street, to create a welcoming pedestrianised open space in the centre of town.

• Opening up the riverside areas into Broad Street, to improve visibility and access.

• Redevelop the historic Market Place, re-instating historic features close to the town hall and refreshing the car park.

• Regeneration of the Acre Road area, creating a new gateway development to link existing historic assets with the town centre.

• Reactivating vacant units and delivering a Flats Over Shops programme – a grant programme to support owners in bringing vacant shops into use and to assist in the conversion of upper floor space into town centre living.

LIONS’ FUNDRAISING A ROARING SUCCESS March Lions Club with the help of the Rotary Club of March raised £900 when it took Santa on a tour of the streets of March throughout December.

Thanks to the generous donations of March residents, the money will be shared among four organisations; Ormiston Families, East Anglian Air Ambulance, Fenland Music Centre and FACT Fenland Grub Growers. The group also collected a total of 185kg of food for March Foodbank.

Alongside this, March Lions also spent a day outside Tesco with the sleigh, where they raised a further £750 for club funds. This will be used throughout the coming year to support local organisations.

WORLD WAR 2 MEMORIES Continuing their long-standing partnership with Doddington primary school, Lionel Walden, residents of Aria Court Care Home in March were recently invited to share their stories, experiences and memories from the Second World War. This specific project was designed to help the children understand the challenges and hardships of wartime Britain from those in their local community. There was a fantastic array of stories, with everything from evacuations, to those who remembered the bombings in London.

MADAOS IS WORKING 9 TO 5!

After a two-year enforced absence, MADAOS will soon re-start rehearsals for the Dolly Parton musical ‘9 to 5’.

Whilst many of the original cast will be resuming their roles, there are a number of parts which need to be re-cast, both large and small, and the group is keen to welcome new members, both as performers and as back stage crew.

How Poor Nutrition Can Impact Us All

id you know it’s Nutrition and Hydration Week this month? This is a worthwhile campaign and most of us could benefit from advice on eating better.

Nutrition and poverty For some, poor nutrition is a choice. Others, though, including many of those who seek help from Christians Against Poverty (CAP), feel they have no choice but to skip meals and are not getting a nutritious diet – not through choice, but because of necessity. Six percent of CAP clients say that debt meant they had to sacrifice meals on a daily basis. A much higher proportion of clients – more than one in three (37%) – report skipping meals on, at least, a monthly basis. In many cases, parents will ensure their children eat first, even if they themselves then have to go without.

The spiral of poor nutrition The NHS website says that a lack of proper nutrition can lead to someone feeling tired all the time, feeling weak, getting ill more often, and taking longer to recover from illness. This can make it difficult for someone in this position to go to work, or work productively, which can lead to them not being able to earn and falling further into debt, particularly if their work hours are unpredictable.

Many food banks, like those operated by Trussell Trust, do amazing work across the UK to

provide food to so many who find themselves in need of urgent assistance. We at CAP work closely with local food banks.

What they do is great and we should, where we can, support this work – check out trusselltrust.org A balanced diet More generally for all of us, good nutrition is so important for how we live, work, play and, hopefully, thrive. We should ensure that our diet is balanced and regularly includes at least some of the food groups necessary to give our bodies what they need.

Some of these are well known to us all, but it’s good to be reminded:  Eat enough fruit and vegetables  Try to eat foods which are high in fibre  Include dairy products or alternatives that provide protein, calcium and vitamins  Watch our sugar, salt and fat intake  Drink plenty of fluids

much of what we eat overall should come from each food group to achieve a healthy, balanced diet. This doesn’t have to be with every meal – although it is recommended that we try to get the balance over a day or week. Take a look at nhs.uk/livewell/eat-well to find out more.

It’s good to be reminded about the importance of good nutrition for our health and wellbeing. While it can be harder to implement, there's lots of advice and guidance available.

s most women of a certain age can testify oops moments are real – that annoying little dribble of wee when you laugh or sneeze gradually creeps up on us all. For some it happens not long after childbirth, for others it’s as the menopause hits and our bodies slowly lose the muscle tone we once had.

Tragic Death Of

Jim Carter

ames Anthony Carter was born in August 1936. He was the son of James and Dora Carter, of Willow Farm, Outwell and was variously known as Tony or Jim.

After the death of his father, he moved in 1945 with his mother and sister Jennifer to March, first living in County Road. Later, the family moved to 108 Station Road. James studied at the Hereward Secondary School. He hoped to follow a career in farming and planned to study at an agricultural college. After leaving school he began working for Mr Gerry Franks at The Walnuts Farm in Flaggrass Hill Road. He was a member of the March Young Farmers’ Club and a keen motor racing fan.

After the Second World War conscription was still operational and, as farming was a 'reserved occupation', James need not have joined the Army. But when his 'call up' papers arrived in July 1954, he embraced the chance to experience military life. He joined the 5th Regiment, Royal Horse Artillery. After initial training at Oswestry, Shropshire he went to West Germany in November, being stationed at Osnabruck.

On April 6th, James was on manoeuvres at the army firing range at Hohne. He was a member of a gun crew when a shell in the gun exploded prematurely. James was knocked unconscious and suffered multiple injuries. He was rushed to hospital but, despite the efforts of army and German civilian doctors, he died about an hour later without regaining consciousness.

His mother, Mrs Carter, learned of her tragic loss in a telegram received at about 1pm the following day. A following letter from James's commanding officer explained that no one was to blame for the accident which was a 'one in a million'

chance. The officer described James as a very good soldier, much liked by his colleagues.

He said that James was admired for his sterling qualities of character.

James's body was flown home and his funeral was on Saturday afternoon, April 16th, 1955, when Major Matthews, Sgt Charles Parker (rtd) and Lance/ Bombardier David Greenfield, who was on the shooting range at the time of the accident, walked in front of the funeral cortege. The service at St John's Church was conducted by Rev. P. Dorman and was followed by a burial in Eastwood cemetery.

Mental Health How Can I Help? [ by Lucy Briggs ]

Did you know that one in four of us will suffer from a mental health issue at one point in our lives? Every single person will know someone who has experienced the struggle.

veryone’s experience is unique and different, yet there are a few easy things that every one of us can do to try and help those around us.

Listen: If someone is struggling, it can be almost instinctive to say things like, “Things will get better”, or “Cheer up, it could be worse”. Although we may think we’re being helpful, sentiments such as these can cause our friends and family to feel misunderstood. Think about how you might talk to someone who had a physical illness. We would never dream of telling them to ‘snap out of it’. We would most likely offer them support, kindness, and space to explore their feelings. Why should we treat mental health issues any differently?

Ask how you can help: A phrase as simple as “Is there anything I can do to help?” can go a long way. Somebody suffering from anxiety may appreciate company while doing the weekly shop.

Somebody suffering from depression may appreciate going for a walk and a chat.

Everybody is different, and what might work for you won’t necessarily work for others. Simply asking can often be the

Don’t treat them any differently: If a loved one tells you that they have been diagnosed with a mental health issue, and perhaps they are taking new medication or seeing a therapist, it can be an incredibly scary time for them. Many people suffering from mental health conditions fear being misunderstood. I know that when I have struggled in my past, I have really appreciated the normal things, like laughing along to a favourite TV show with my family or having a chat about something completely unrelated to my illness. They are still the same person; they are just having a tough time.

Look after yourself: Be sure to not neglect how you are feeling and be kind to yourself. There are plenty of resources on the Mind website (www.mind.org.uk) that I would highly recommend for those supporting a friend, family member, or co-worker, and of course for those suffering themselves.

You never know what someone else is going through. A little kindness can go a very long way.

Alder Buckthorn

Brimstone and Buckthorn he bright yellow Brimstone butterfly hibernates in the winter as an adult and is often the first to emerge in spring.

It has been suggested that the name ‘butterfly’ derives from the early sightings of the yellow Brimstone that was called a butter-coloured fly.

Only the males are really yellow; females and subadults vary from whitish green through to yellowish green. Frustratingly, the Brimstone always closes its wings when it settles. The butterfly prefers to feed on nectar from yellow or purple flowers and they will gorge themselves in autumn before hibernating.

Adult Brimstones can be seen at any time of year if it’s a warm sunny day but are most prolific in April and May when they are looking for a mate; they only have one brood each year. Eggs are laid individually on Common (Purging) Buckthorn or Alder Buckthorn.

After one or two weeks, the larva eats its way out of the egg and consumes Buckthorn for three weeks or so before moving away from its food plant to pupate. The amazing metamorphosis into the long-lived adult butterfly takes only two weeks.

Because of the limited range of food plants used by Brimstones it was most important to include Common (Purging) Buckthorn and Alder Buckthorn in Gault Wood. Both are bushy shrubs never producing tall trees with thick trunks. They have been planted around the edges of the trees bordering the open areas.

Both shrubs have insignificant flowers that produce berries in autumn. Common (Purging) Buckthorn

has bunches of berries whilst Alder Buckthorn berries are spread out in ones and twos. Berries are green to start with then turn red and finally black. DO NOT eat the berries. The name Purging Buckthorn gives a clue of the effect they can have.

Alder Buckthorn will have a similar effect but is most likely to induce vomiting.

Flowers popular with Brimstone butterflies have also been planted. Primroses that bloom early provide food when they emerge from hibernation.

Knapweed, Greater Willowherb, Teasel and Purple Loosestrife are good in summer and early autumn.

Brimstones also enjoy Rose-Bay Willowherb, Thistles and Dandelions but we didn’t need to plant them; they were delivered by the wind.

Tommy Robson

ommy Robson was dubbed ‘Sir Tommy’ by fans of Peterborough United after becoming probably the greatest Posh ‘Legend’.

His illustrious career saw him playing in the old First Division (now the Premier League) before he took a step down to join Fourth Division Posh in 1968.

Tommy fell in love with Peterborough and in thirteen seasons at London Road, he won the Fourth Division championship title and made an all-time record 559 appearances, He also scored an incredible 128 goals and was twice voted ‘Player of the Season’.

When Tommy finally left Posh at 37 years of age, he played non-league football at Stamford. Tommy’s Posh connection continued for more than fifty years and he had spells as manager of the youth team, was part of the commentary team on BBC local radio, and set up the ‘Posh Legends’, a team of ex-players who raised money for local charities.

He was also a sponsors’ matchday host giving guided-tours of the London Road ground. He did all this in addition to his “daytime” jobs. Tommy became the first inductee into the ‘Posh Hall of Fame’ and was also later awarded the high honour of the ‘Freedom of the City of Peterborough’.

In 2019, following the devastating news that Tommy had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, Posh fans Dene Butler and Ray Cole, approached Tommy to ask if he would be interested in writing a book, in which he could tell the many stories and anecdotes, for which he was well-known. Whenever Tommy was in front of an audience, he had a neverending supply of hilarious football-related tales. The resulting book, ‘Tommy Robson On The Wing’ tells Tommy’s story from childhood, through his football career and his life after he hung up his boots. It also features some rarely-seen photographs from Tommy’s personal albums.

Tommy fought his battle with this horrible disease with the same tenacity that he always showed on the pitch, but he always knew he was fighting a losing battle and in October 2020, he sadly died.

It quickly emerged that a such a ‘legend’, deserved a lasting memorial, in the form of a lifesize bronze statue, to stand alongside that of his great friend Chris Turner. So, with the support of the Posh Supporters Trust it was decided to go ahead with publishing the book and donate all profits to the Tommy Robson Statue Fund and the MND Association.

Peterborough United agreed to stock and sell the book for free. It is available from the Posh Club Shop or online at www.theposhonlinestore.com at £9.99 (plus p&p where applicable).

MALICIOUS MALVERTISING

Most browsers, websites, and apps use push notifications as a form of marketing and in general these ‘allow website notifications’ are fine as they simply let web developers notify users when new content is posted. However, over the last few years, criminals have been misusing these notifications to hide malware, a tactic known as ‘malvertising.’

Malvertising works when users open a website with ‘allow website notifications’ and are faced with a pop-up asking for permission to display notifications.

These intrusive ads can in turn lead to malicious websites and can even run scripts that install malware. Some sites ask to ‘enable notifications, otherwise content will not be displayed.’ When the user declines, the pop-up keeps appearing until the website is closed. These notifications to display content are merely trying to trick users into clicking ‘allow.’

• The browser home page changes without your permission.

Microsoft Edge – go to settings by clicking on the horizontal three dots, then on the lefthand menu click on cookies and site permissions, now scroll down on the right-hand side to notifications and untick ask before sending, this will block them all.

Even with an adblocker installed,

• Ads appear in places where they shouldn’t, e.g., your desktop, even when the browser is closed.

• Websites you used to visit are now not displaying properly, or you are redirected to another address.

• You get pop-ups which advertise fake software or updates, or warnings that you are infected, followed by prompts to install a specific clean-up tool (DON’T!).

• Apps and programs are installed on your PC that you don’t remember installing.

Don’t worry, they can be removed: Google Chrome - go to settings by clicking on the vertical three dots, then scroll down to site

Mozilla Firefox – click on options from the drop-down menu, then choose privacy & security from the list at the top left. Scroll down until you come to permissions, click on the settings button for notifications and you can see all the websites you allowed popups from.

Finish by scanning your PC and cleaning it up with professional anti-malware software. To prevent infections with malicious push notifications, be cautious.

Keep the list of websites from which you accept push notifications short and NEVER go online unprotected.

JOIN TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOAL

has the potential of injecting up to £10 million into football facilities in Fenland and East Cambridgeshire over the next ten years.

C

ommunities can achieve almost anything when they stand together and pursue a single goal. I’m always amazed and delighted by the successes of groups and organisations working together with their communities.

One of those, which deserves high praise, is Leverington Sport and Social Club and Leverington Sports Youth FC who have been working hard for years to bring fresh investment into facilities at the club and have been rewarded with a £473,788 grant by the Government’s Football Foundation, the Premier League and the FA. I joined Steve Fisher, Matt Warren, and Wayne Garner from Leverington Sports and Social Club, and Katie Critchley from Cambridgeshire FA, for the announcement which means the long dreamed-for floodlit 9v9 3G pitch will become a reality. They’ve done an incredible fundraising job and have been rewarded with extra funding that will deliver an amazing asset that many can enjoy. The new training facility could be in place by the summer and will not only relieve pressure from the grass pitches, but will allow further football opportunities for disabled people, female players and health and wellbeing sessions.

This year is the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrating Her Majesty becoming the first British monarch to celebrate seventy years on the throne. Events and activities – both local and national – are already in the planning stage, and I wanted to highlight some grant funding that is available.

Sport England will make awards, using National Lottery funding, of between £300 and £10,000 for projects that bring a community together and provide opportunities for people who may be less physically active, prioritising disadvantaged communities. Meanwhile, the Arts Council England has grants of between £750 and £10,000 available to voluntary and community organisations for creative events.

I know many constituents will want to get involved in something this year to celebrate the jubilee, and alongside these local events it will be great to help secure grant funding for local sports and community groups.

Out and about in the constituency, it was a pleasure to meet Andrew and the team at A.G. Cannon Removals in March and great to see a local family business that has gone from strength to strength, with Andrew and Christine’s children and even grandchildren now part of the story.

Also, did you know that key parts of the Brit Oval were made in our constituency? Or if you stand on new London Bridge station platforms it is the work of skilled local staff from Littleport? As a local MP you often see amazingly innovative businesses behind gates which otherwise you simply drive past. A big thank you to Patrick Sexton at the Littleport factory of FP McCann, which is a leading manufacturer of precast concrete that is at the heart of many major building and transport schemes.
