De Pere Green Bay

Downtown Discoveries Family Fun & Nightlife

Make your way South on the Fox River and you might hear “De Pere” and “West De Pere.” Don’t be confused - it’s one city, separated by one river, with two school districts (East=Redbirds, West=Phantoms). No matter the side of the river you find yourself on, you’re sure to have a blast.

The City of De Pere is home to many unique parks and water-side recreation. The VFW Park on the city’s west side is a great place for families to enjoy the new waterpark with a zero-entry pool, 2 diving boards, 3 slides, an activity area with basketball hoops, a rock climbing wall, and more! Oneida Nation

Tradition & Culture

The historic Oneida Nation, located just west of Green Bay, always call Northeast Wisconsin home. In fact – this past fall, Oneida commemorated a historic milestone.

September 23, 2022 marked the 200th anniversary of the 1822 Treaty, which established the land base for Oneida, on what was then the Michigan territory, in Wisconsin. About a year later, Oneida families from the east began to travel from New York to the newly established territory. To acknowledge this significant event, Oneida honors all those who came before them and all those who helped them become what they are today. Oneida feels especially blessed and privileged to recognize the contributions from the Ho-Chunk and Menominee Nations.

Throughout the decades, these Nations have persevered to ensure their culture and language would be passed on to future generations. The Oneida Nation continues to enhance travel experiences and invites you to learn more about all the Indigenous Nations in Wisconsin.

In this area, you will find many opportunities to learn

more about the Oneida’s rich, unique culture and have a fun-filled day that you will remember for years and years to come!

Oneida has so many opportunities if you want to play the day away. Start with a trip to the Oneida Buffalo Overlook, where you can see a free-roaming herd of over one hundred buffalo!

If you want to try your luck at poker, blackjack, bingo, slot machines, or even bet on your favorite teams at their sportsbook, make a stop at Oneida Casino.

Located in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Oneida Casino is the state’s premier gaming entertainment destination offering all the action you’re looking for. An array of bars and dining options, plus an attached hotel, makes Oneida Casino perfect for a weekend getaway. It’s no wonder Oneida Casino is the official casino of the Green Bay Packers.

Afterward, stop at the Amelia Cornelius Culture Park, located about 10 minutes away from Oneida Casino on State Hwy 54. Here you can get a rare chance to see a full-sized replica of a traditional Oneida longhouse with an artificial bark covering that is hand-painted by

local artists. The 65-foot structure represents the home dwelling Oneida People lived in hundreds of years ago. Along with the longhouse, the park also features traditional log homes, fully furnished with objects and artifacts that literally send you back in time.

At the museum, you can see original Haudenosaunee (People of the Longhouse) artwork and artifacts, take a stroll through the nature trails, and visit the Three Sisters Garden.

There are many ways to experience Oneida culture through food. Cedar and Sage Grill House, located in the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center, offers a great dining experience featuring culturally significant dishes using indigenous ingredients from Oneida Farms. Farmers' markets are such a great way to not only stock up on healthy snacks but also to really experience the area just like a local would. HIDDEN TREASURE IN GREEN BAY

Nestled in the heart of the historical Broadway District in Downtown Green Bay sat a treasure. A treasure that thousands upon thousands of shoppers at the On Broadway Farmers Market casually strolled by while picking out their fresh veggies and enjoying local fare on sun-soaked Wednesday evenings. An old building, with boards over the previous garage doors and for sale signs in the windows.

In 1945, this building opened as the Jones Motor Company and was a mainstay in the Broadway District for many years. The building was well constructed with soaring ceilings, steel frame, wood accents, and walls of original Cream City bricks.

In 2016, a young chef and her husband, a wide-eyed and eager entrepreneur whom she met in Los Angeles, returned to Green Bay from a stint in Hollywood. Together they would tear down the boards and remove the for sale signs leaving in its place, a destination creating unique experiences (and great food) for weddings, events, meetings, and of course, those Wednesday evening Farmers Market shoppers. A place where people could Gather on Broadway.

 LEAVING HOME

Fresh out of Southwest High School in Green Bay, becoming a renowned chef was never in the plan for Jyll Everman. In fact, she didn’t even want to go to college. She attended Northern Michigan University for two years, to appease her parents – of course. After the agreed upon two years and without choosing a major, it was time to pursue the path she always wanted – life in the big city with dreams of a professional singing career. But where to go? Inspired by the 1996 Jo Dee Messina classic she flipped a coin. Heads New York, Tails California. Tails never fails.

 A LIFETIME PARTNERSHIP

Sometimes one dream is paused to pursue a passion.

Even though Tommy Everman would rather eat Taco Bell than Smoked Salmon Crostini, he has a passion for hospitality. In fact, he spent time working in the fine dining and hospitality industry in Los Angeles. At one of his stops in his career, he met a young chef who would eventually convince him to move halfway across the country to Green Bay, Wisconsin. Together Tommy and Jyll would share a vision for a gathering place that would not only host events but create experiences that leave people with something to remember.

“When people tell the story of Gather they sometimes focus on me. But truly, my husband is the brains behind the whole thing,” said Jyll. “I’m just kind of the razzle-dazzle, I do the videos and I cook, but he’s the one that brought the whole thing to life.”

 TERRIFYING.

Jyll and Tommy were happy, living out their calling. Tommy in hospitality, Jyll in various cooking ventures. In 2011, Jyll even competed in the Food Network Television Series, “The Next Food Network Star.”

But it was time to start thinking about the future. Where did they want to raise their kids? Does Jyll want to be closer to family? Tommy’s a California kid, could he be happy away from home? Where could they pursue their dreams and be fulfilled in life, community, and business? To Jyll and Tommy, the answer was clear. It was Green Bay.

The couple was familiar with the area. In fact, they would come back regularly to visit family and friends. But they did notice some changes.

“When I was a kid growing up Broadway was not somewhere to go hang out,” said Jyll. “But then coming back and seeing the progression of Broadway and the renovation of Broadway, we were excited to be a part of that.”

Tommy and said ‘can we afford this?’ It was beyond scary, but the vision was there. We all had the vision.”

They both knew it could be something special, a place like Green Bay has not seen before, a place where visitors and locals alike would one day gather for some of their most memorable experiences.

 GATHER TODAY

Gather has now been open to the public since August 2016 and Jyll and Tommy have been welcoming groups with open arms and warm hospitality. On the surface it may seem like Gather is simply a beautiful and unique destination for weddings, private parties, corporate events, or family gatherings. And it is. Tommy will wow you with ideas and unique ways to spruce up the space for your event and Jyll will dazzle with culinary delights.

But it’s also become part of the Green Bay community.

If you’re out and about on Wednesdays in the summer you can find original recording artists performing live music on their stage, or get tickets to events like Breakfast with Santa, Glitz & Gather 90's Dance Night, specialty dinners, and more!

But Jyll and Tommy’s mission to create unique experiences is never ending.

“Food just brings people together, and creates experiences,” said Jyll. “I loved that experience and wanted to be a part of bringing it to people. So I found myself enrolling in culinary school.”

Living in Los Angeles, Jyll was surrounded by some of the best chefs and fine-dining restaurants in the country. Here she discovered her passion for food.

Working in restaurants around town and completing culinary school, Jyll honed her craft and worked her way up in kitchens around the city. It’s here she found a partner in life and business.

Jyll and Tommy would soon discover that moving across the country with kids and starting over was difficult. But starting a business out of a boarded-up old motor repair shop well - that was just scary.

“Terrifying. It [the building] was not in the best condition,” said Jyll “I walked in and I looked at

“[in the future] Gather will be doing the same thing it is now, but better,” said Jyll. “There’s never a time me, Tommy, and our team are not talking about what is trending, what is up and coming, what’s another way to make people feel incredible.”

And just a note – no, Jyll has not gone back to singing (aside from a late-night karaoke session here and there).

Green Bay Football

There’s more than one pro team that calls the Green Bay region home. If you find yourself in Green Bay between March and July with a craving to catch a game, look no further than the Green Bay Blizzard - a member of the Indoor Football League (IFL).

The IFL started in 2009 following a merger between the United Indoor Football League and the Intense Football League. There are currently 14 teams, and they play a 15-game schedule - so there’s plenty of home or away games to choose from.

The Green Bay Blizzard's mission is simple: “To provide affordable family fun and an award-winning gameday experience, while bringing families together and impacting our community.”

Tickets start at just $12, but prices vary depending on where you sit. If you find yourself in the first row, or “Buried Alive” section, you will be incredibly close to the action. The distance between the sideline and your seat is a matter of feet. Undoubtedly, you will feel the speed and intensity of the game, and could even end up with a player in your lap!

Once you attend a Blizzard game, you are sure to want more. The camaraderie and family-friendly atmosphere reminds you of why football is such a beloved American sport. Players often play “rock-paper-scissors” with kids in the crowd, Blizzard staff curate fun theme nights, and the team practices a “catch it, keep it” policy. Field goals are not captured by a net; instead, spectators in the end zone should be ready to catch a flying football at any moment. At the end of each game, fans can take the field for the “Fifth Quarter” for an opportunity to meet the players and get pictures and autographs.

The Green Bay Blizzard players are not just committed to playing football; they are also devoted to the community. Players participate in mentorship programs, sports camps, and appearances at local schools. You can even find the players eating lunch with students on their frequent visits.

History

Green Bay is one of the most historical communities in Wisconsin. Long before European settlers sailed to the shores of Green Bay, many indigenous tribes called this region home. And their impact and culture remain a part of the community. Today, the Green Bay region is home to the historic Oneida Nation. Just west of the city, Oneida Nation is home to the Amelia Cornelius Culture Park with a full-sized replica of a traditional Oneida longhouse. The replica has an artificial bark covering that is hand-painted by local artists. The 65foot structure represents the home dwelling Oneida People lived in hundreds of years ago. Along with the longhouse, the park also features traditional log homes, fully furnished with objects and artifacts that literally send you back in time.

For an even more immersive history of the area head to Heritage Hill State Historical Park in Allouez. Here trained

actors bring history to life! You’ll also be able to get up close and personal with the past. Heritage Hill has 26 original and reconstructed buildings representing historical and cultural developments relevant to Northeastern Wisconsin from the 1600s to the present. Talk about a walk through history!

To explore our history and culture even further make sure to stop by the Neville Public Museum in the Broadway District in Downtown Green Bay. From woolly mammoths to Spectacular Science, learn all about the natural history of the region in a fun and interactive displays.

There’s so much more to explore, like the historical Astor neighborhood, The Automobile Gallery, the Brown County Historical Society, the National Railroad Museum, and more. If you’re a history buff, make sure to plan an extra day in Green Bay.

Trails & Ales

If you read any article or list on beer culture in the United States you’ll see Wisconsin as a hub for beer and brewing. And that tradition has grown stronger with the explosion in craft brewers in the past 10 years. It’s also true that around here, we love exploring the outdoors. Our miles and miles of trails are welcoming during all seasons.

So we thought, let’s put two of our favorite things together. And there you have it. Trails and Ales. For the outdoor adventurer who likes to wind down with a good brew.

 FOX RIVER TRAIL

The Fox River Trail provides riverside beauty winding through Brown County. The 25-mile trail is partially asphalt through the 11-mile city and riverside stretch and turns to crushed gravel as you get south of De Pere. On this trail, you’ll be able to take in the scenery from Downtown Green Bay, past the City Deck, through the Allouez historic district, through De Pere’s downtown, and then out into nature in Wrightstown and Greenleaf. There’s no shortage of activities available on the Fox River Trail. Grab your bike or rollerblades, walking shoes, or even horseback, and enjoy the outdoors any way you’d like. Even in the winter the asphalt stretch of the trail is plowed and ready for use. A state trail pass is required for bicycling, in-line skating, and horseback riding.

COPPER STATE BREWING COMPANY

After a warm summer ride on the Fox River Trail, you will definitely have worked up a thirst. And there’s no better place to find a cold beverage than right across the Dousman Street Bridge at Copper State Brewing Company. Their cozy and modern interior will welcome you right to the bar - but if you’d like to enjoy the outdoors, their beer garden and outdoor dining provide great city views. We’d recommend the staple, Stilt Stepper IPA - a light refreshing New England Style Pale Ale that will delight your palate. If you’re really looking for a post-ride treat you can also try one of their many sours or slushie beers by season.

 BARKHAUSEN WATERFOWL PRESERVE

Located along the west shore of the Bay of Green Bay, the Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve has 920 acres of forest, meadows, and wetlands where prehistoric Indigenous tribes once hunted, fished, and camped. Today this natural area is home to and a refuge for a wide variety of waterfowl, wildlife, and plant species. Over 9 miles of scenic hiking trails run through the marshes and forests of the preserve. These trails are also groomed for cross-country skiing in the winter months. Barkhausen is also home to the first-of-its-kind Sensory Woods which connects people with all abilities to the sensations of nature.

 NOBLE ROOTS

After experiencing all the native and migratory bird species at Barkhausen you’ll be ready to relax in a cozy taproom with a great beer. Just simply head a few miles south along the southernmost shore of the Bay of Green Bay to Noble Roots Brewing Company. Their comfy tap room is situated just steps away from where the brews are created. And, they have an aviaryinspired beer for you to enjoy while reminiscing about your hike. Their Red IPA – aptly named Cardinal IPA – has a layered caramel sweetness from Crystal malts and tropical flavor and aroma from Citra hops.

 BROWN COUNTY REFORESTATION CAMP

With almost 1,500 acres, the E.J. "Ollie" Smith Reforestation Camp offers a variety of outdoor activities for every age. Picnicking and fishing around the Camp's many small ponds are popular summer activities. For the outdoor enthusiast, miles of scenic trails running throughout the Camp provide the opportunity for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. A playground and two rental shelter buildings are available for family gatherings and company events. In the winter months, the Reforestation Camp is a favorite with its miles of carefully groomed cross-country ski, fat tire bike, and snowmobile trails.

 HINTERLAND

Didn’t get enough of the outdoors? Head to Hinterland Brewery and Restaurant in the Titletown District just across the street from legendary Lambeau Field. Its indoor/outdoor seating will have you basking in the shadow of the iconic stadium. The interior is adorned with touches of nature and many of their brews are inspired by the outdoors. If you’re visiting in the fall the go-to is the Oktoberfest beer. This brightly filtered, golden color, very malty, and lightly hopped brew offers a velvet smooth mouthfeel with rich flavor.

BAIRD CREEK TRAIL

Winter, summer, or fall Baird’s Creek Trail on the east side of Green Bay offers miles of beautiful trails and outdoor recreation. At Baird’s Creek you’ll find a variety of trails for walking, running, mountain biking, skiing, and exploring. The mountain biking trails can be classified into three areas; terrains for the double track (hikers and bikers), single track, and highly technical sections including rocks, roots, and the occasional creek crossing for the more adventurous rider. In the winter bring the kids and enjoy the sledding, skiing, and snowboarding hills at Triangle Sports Area. A heated chalet, tow lifts, and tube rentals will ensure a delightful experience for all ages.

 STILLMANK BREWING

Just a mile and a half west of Baird Creek Trail you’ll find Stillmank Brewing. Their fun-filled tap room is welcoming for all and features indoor picnic tables for family-style seating, a great merchandise collection, and board games to enjoy while sipping your frothy treat. If you’re up for a little more adventure try their jalapeno-infused blonde ale – Killer Bees. This spicy take on a blonde ale features peppery aromas and a mild spicy heat! If you’re looking for something more traditional their Wisco Disco amber is a local delight.

MOUNTAIN BAY STATE TRAIL

The Mountain Bay State Trail is one of the longest rail trails in the state stretching more than 80 miles. And if you’re keen on Wisconsin geography, you’ll know how it gets its name. The trail connects two great Wisconsin geologic features – the Bay of Green Bay and Rib Mountain in Marathon County near Wausau, Wisconsin. The crushed stone surface and wide path make it perfect for biking, walking, and running for a group. Set a short path around the area or take the challenge and try to bike across the state!

BADGER STATE BREWING

Another great place for groups to gather is Badger State Brewing near the Resch Center and Lambeau Field. This massive taproom is a great place to relax after enjoying time out on the trail exploring, well, the Badger State. Plus, their outdoor beer garden is a great spot to gather with friends and enjoy a refreshing brew while playing bags or other lawn games. Badger State’s most iconic variety is their Brew-Ski lager. A forward-thinking, German-inspired lager that drinks clean, crisp, and delicious. You’ll notice the inspired can is modeled after a Wisconsin license plate and is a great gift for any beer and Wisconsin lover. Don’t forget to ask about a tour to learn more about the wide variety of beer available at Badger State.

Who says we can’t chase waterfalls? They are beautiful! Especially the waterfall at Fonferek’s Glen. This unique 75acre county park offers magnificent views of the geological gem. A 30-foot waterfall, dolomite cliffs, and stone archway are all part of the larger Niagara Escarpment. The waterfall here can easily be viewed from a designated overlook constructed in 2019. And like most of the county parks in our area, dogs are welcome (on leash only). Bring your furry friend along for your adventure, but make sure to use caution the rest of the park is a natural conservancy area with steep cliffs, falling rock, and rugged terrain.

 ZAMBALDI

Another great place to visit with your pup is Zambaldi Brewing on Webster Avenue in Allouez just east of the Fox River. This great family-friendly and pet-friendly tap room offers a great kids' area, family-themed events, and a view of their brewing area through massive glass windows. Make sure to check out their outdoor seating area where you and your doggo can enjoy a beer, a bowl of water, and maybe even a milk bone. With or without man’s best friend at your side, we’d recommend the Good Dog Porter from Zambaldi. Named after the owner’s lovable mutt, Porter, this English Porter is as comforting as spending the day with your favorite pup!

 PACKERS HERITAGE TRAIL

Maybe this isn’t the type of trail you normally think of - but this is Green Bay, and the Packers and this region share a history. That history is on display on the Packers Heritage Trail. This free attraction features 25 sites throughout Green Bay and De Pere that commemorate significant landmarks and events in Packers and Green Bay history. Visitors are welcome to explore the trail via walking, biking, and/or driving. For a more guided experience, you can book a spot on the Packers Heritage Trail Trolly Tours. With photo opportunities at special landmarks, including stops at the old City Stadium, and the Heritage Trail Plaza, you'll be led by a knowledgeable, entertaining guide who will help bring to life the story of Green Bay and its team.

 TITLETOWN BREWING

There’s no better place to hang out, reminisce, and celebrate the adventures of the day than at Titletown Brewing. Located in the Broadway District on Green Bay’s west side this unique location offers wonderful views of the city from its roof-top tap room with indoor and outdoor seating. Located in the historic Larson Canning building - there’s no shortage of Green Bay history here! Staying on the football theme, you should try the Johnny "Blood" Red Irish Red ale – named for John “Johnny Blood” McNally, a legendary running back for the Packers in the late 1920s and 1930s. Its crisp notes of rich caramel malts and a touch of roasted barley create its distinctive flavor.

 AHNAPEE STATE TRAILHEAD

While you’re visiting our region make sure to head east to the shores of Lake Michigan and friendly Algoma. This charming city on the lake offers great beaches, a quaint downtown, and many great businesses and restaurants. It’s also home to another great trail, Ahnapee State Trailhead. This 48-mile crushed limestone trail winds its way through nature and is perfect for walking, running, biking and riding. Visitors will enjoy passing by a mixture of evergreen glades, farmland, prairies, and wooded areas teeming with wildlife and native wildflowers while winding along the Ahnapee and Kewaunee rivers.

 AHNAPEE BREWERY

Ahnapee Brewery was originally opened all the way back in 1886 and was known for their Ahnapee Lager which was distributed locally. In 2013, the brewery reopened in a two-stall-garageturned-taproom just two doors down from the original brewery location in Algoma. Then in the spring of 2022, the tap room moved again to a new and updated location with Lake Michigan views and expanded beer options. After a day on the trail, a Cherry Mechanic will refresh you in the garage. It’s bright & slightly sweet to start, this Cherry Ale is crafted with a blend of Door County cherries & dark sweet cherries. Brewed with sorghum, tapioca, and Belgian Candi Sugar to be naturally gluten-free.

The Little Sister, Mangiare

In the land of meat and potatoes, you’re likely to find several steakhouses. Belly up to any bar in Green Bay and ask a local for a steakhouse; they’re likely to recommend Republic Chophouse. Their reputation and brand exude excellence; from service, to style, to a chefcurated menu. It’s no wonder they decided to expand.

Republic Chophouse expanded in 2021 with a sister restaurant, Mangiare (man-gi-à-re). Located just two blocks south on North Adams Street. Mangiare offers upscale Italian fare. Leveraging Republic Chophouse’s reputable brand, you can find an array of classics and chef-curated items. Featuring house-made Arancini’s (fried risotto balls filled with meat and cheese) and a local favorite, the Blueberry Lavender Cannoli. “We’re most proud of the people, the process, and the product” said General Manager, Heather Mrotek. “The team at Mangiare is young and eager to learn. We want to offer our employees the option to grow and stay with us. That’s why we offer full benefits packages to our

employees, and they can share hours between the two restaurants.”

Downtown Green Bay has been home to the restaurant and its team for many years. The connection between the district and its business creates a unique atmosphere and welcoming environmentboth inside and out.

“We love Downtown Green Bay,” said Mrotek. “We love giving new life to old buildings and contributing to new growth in the downtown district. Most of all, we wanted to offer more opportunities for current and future employees.”

The connection between the two restaurants is evident in the effortless and sleek décor, open concept, and ambient lighting. Mangiare feels less like an Italian restaurant in downtown Green Bay and more like a young and modern trattoria in Northern Italy.

A Budding Wine Region

Green Bay, and Wisconsin for that matter, are known for its thriving community of spirit distillers, wineries, and (surprise) breweries. And our local scene will not disappoint. From countryside vineyards to tiny tap rooms, Green Bay has something for all tastes.

One little secret that may surprise you is the fact that Green Bay shares a unique trait that puts our grapes on par with globally recognized wine-making regions.

One winery, in particular, has taken keen advantage of our advantageous growing region. Back in 1994 Steve Johnson and Maria Milano were on holiday to Napa Valley during their second year of law school. Sitting in a pristine vineyard, they asked - why couldn’t we bring this experience to Northeast Wisconsin?

Fast forward nearly a decade and the couple is now married, with three kids under three. Both practicing law. But the idea of starting a winery was still aging in their brains. So they took the dive and started the business. They were missing one key element - a name! When looking through old wine magazines they noticed, our

community is situated on the 44th north latitude line.

If you walk that line straight across the Atlantic Ocean you’d walk right through Tuscany, Italy, and Bordeaux, France – premier wine country. It was settled. Parallel 44 Vineyard & Winery was born.

“We actually have a chart in the tasting room that shows that in April through October we have the same growing degree days, same precipitation, and the same amount of daylight,” said Johnson, “Those key factors in this sweet spot on the globe are ideal for wine growing.”

Nearly 20 years later Steve and Maria are still producing some of the region’s best wine. In fact, Steve played a critical role in getting the Wisconsin Ledge recognized as an American Viticultural Area – a designation given by the federal government when they notice unique topography, climate, and soils that lead to a distinctive wine. And Parallel 44 is the largest producer of Wisconsin Ledge wines.

Live Entertainment

The Resch Center and Resch Expo are the center of entertainment in the Green Bay area. Smack dab in the middle of the stadium/entertainment district, the Resch Complex is located directly across the street from Lambeau Field. Managed by Green Bay’s PMI Entertainment Group, the Resch Center is a 10,500 multi-purpose arena that hosts many worldclass events and entertainers, including Elton John, Cher, James Taylor, Rod Stewart, Bon Jovi and more. The Resch Center is also home to the WIAA Girls State Basketball and WIAA Girls and Boys State Volleyball Tournaments.

The Resch Center is anchored by its tenants – Green Bay Gamblers Hockey, Green Bay Men’s Basketball and Green Bay Blizzard Professional Indoor Football. Gamblers hockey is the main tenant with 30 home games during a season that spans from September through April. The Gamblers’ roster boasts the best of the best players ages 16-20 who go on to play division one college hockey and some eventually to the NHL. In fact two-time Stanley Cup champion and coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Jon Cooper, once roamed

the benches at the Resch Center as head coach of the Green Bay Gamblers.

The Resch Expo, which opened in early 2021, hosts many consumer expos and community events that need a large footprint. The building boasts 125,000 square feet of column free space. Annual events include the Green Bay Boat Show, Green Bay RV & Camping Expo, The Wedding Show, and Craftoberfest. Other events include sports tournaments and family attractions.

The Meyer Theatre in downtown Green Bay is also managed by PMI Entertainment Group. The cozy 1,000 seat venue opened as a Fox Theatre in 1930 and has evolved into a Green Bay mainstay for live entertainment, including concerts, comedy, and the house troupe, Let Me Be Frank Productions. Let Me Be Frank produces original comedy musicals that have been an entertainment destination in Northeast Wisconsin for decades.

La Baye Verte

When French explorer Jean Nicolet arrived to the region in the 1600's he named the bay "La Baye Verte" or "The Green Bay." The green sheen is due to the flora and fauna when the sun reflects off the water. To biologists it is a sign of a healthy water system full of ecological life.

The Bay of Green Bay is the largest freshwater estuary in the world. Recently the National Estuarine Research Reserve system (NERR) has taken an interest in this ecological wonder. The NERR is funded and guided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and each site is managed on a daily basis by a lead state agency or university. The Green Bay NERR, is being managed on a local level, by the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

The NERR is designated through a six step process; UWGB and other community partners are guiding Green Bay through this process. Plans have started to designate three areas of the Bay. These three designated areas have been narrowed down to the mouth of the Peshtigo River, the lower banks of the bay near the Suamico Area, and parts of the Sturgeon Bay Shipping Canal.

Despite being in the midst of the designation process, the estuary is there, thriving, as it has for centuries. In fact, each year this amazing part of our region has seen the migratory patterns of every native North American aviary species. So grab your binoculars bird watchers, you’re sure to find some unique species exploring the Bay of Green Bay.

Explore the Outdoors

Yes - Green Bay is on the water. Actually - a lot of it. It’s surprising how many people are surprised by this fact. Yes, we’re home to one of the most storied professional sports teams in the country - but it’s in our name. Green BAY. And this water provides a lot of fun. Let’s begin on the Fox River. This picturesque winding river has many personalities. In De Pere and Wrightstown the shores of the river are dotted with woodland and homes making for a peaceful, serene kayak or boating experience. It’s perfect for fishing for walleye near the dams or hopping on a tube or wakeboard for a little fun. Then, as you enter Allouez and Green Bay you’ll notice a more urban setting complete with riverside restaurants and bars. There are also plenty of spots to rent kayaks or paddleboards.

Just north of the Fox River is the Bay of Green Bay. A great place to fish for muskie, walleye, trout, or salmon. You can bring your boat and try your luck or find a guide service to bring you to all the hot spots. The bay is also great for recreation. From boat parties at Long Tail island to sail boating with Green Bay Sail and Paddle.

Of course, we have to mention the “great” body of water just east of Green Bay. The city of Algoma sits on the shores of Lake Michigan and is full of on-andoff-the-water experiences. Like the Bay, you can find great guide services to take you out to hunt for the big salmon or trout. The winds off the shore make for great windsurfing. Or spend the day on Crescent Beach. Its pristine sand and endless views will rival any beach experience and provide a fun day of sand castles and swimming.

Don’t forget all the inland bodies of water that are also great for fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and more. You won't have to drive far to find a creek, river, or lake for you to set sail.

SPORTS

Don’t be shocked – there’s more than just football for the sports lover to enjoy in the Green Bay area. Our community is home to Division 1 and Division 3 college athletic programs with top-tier facilities and talent making for wonderful collegiate competition. Plus there are numerous semi-pro teams to entertain the whole family. From Green Bay Rockers baseball at Capital Credit Union Park to Gamblers hockey and Green Bay Blizzard indoor football at the Resch Center.

With all the great athletic programs in our area, look no further than Green Bay to host your next sporting events. From rinks to courts, fields, and expo space – it is all right here.

GOLFING

Believe it or not - the frozen tundra is thawed for most of the year and makes for spectacular golf conditions. In fact - Wisconsin is one of the top golf destinations in the United States! Whether you’re a competitive, nearlyscratch golfer or a weekend warrior trying to break 100 for the first time, there are friendly, challenging courses for you in and around Green Bay.

In Green Bay you’re just a short “drive” away from plenty of fun, affordable courses like Thornberry Creek at Oneida, Brown County Golf Course, or Wander Springs. Or take a day trip to courses that have hosted the PGA Championship, US Open, and Ryder Cup.

Plan your golf weekend to Northeast Wisconsin today!

Mulva Cultural Center:

Inspiring. Engaging. World Class.

When you walk inside the 75,000 sq. ft. facility, a world of inspiration, culture, and education will unfold. The Center will offer a yearly “season” of programming featuring the finest traveling exhibits from a matrix of history, natural history, science, arts and photography, pop culture, world religions, and immersive experiences.

Opening Soon! Located in historic downtown De Pere, on the banks of the Fox River, the Mulva Cultural Center is destined to become a Wisconsin landmark when it opens its doors in late summer 2023. The Mulva Cultural Center will be a world-class cultural destination, showcasing the finest traveling exhibits along with unique features including a stateof-the-art theater, educational classrooms, an expansive gift shop, an upscale restaurant, indoor and outdoor event spaces and three outdoor fire gardens with contemporary sculptures.

“The building itself is stunning,” explains Mike Van Asten, CEO of the Center. “Internationally acclaimed architect SOM – Skidmore, Owings & Merrill – designed the facility. The firm is a pioneer in modernist architecture in America and has designed some of the world’s most significant projects.” The transparent design, featuring 53 unique types of exterior glass finishes and sizes, with panels custommade in Germany, will make the Center visible for miles.

“We will offer the kind of world-class exhibits that, in the past, you’d only see in large cities around the world,” added Van Asten. “And those major traveling exhibits will be complemented by local and regional cultural opportunities. We will truly have something to appeal to everyone.”

Inside and out, the Mulva Cultural Center is remarkable. “What makes it even more impressive is that the Center is a gift to the City of De Pere and the people of Northeast Wisconsin from area residents and philanthropists, Jim and Miriam Mulva,” stated Van Asten. “They have funded the entire cost of construction and provided an endowment to ensure what is offered at the Center is free or at a greatly reduced cost to the public. There will be programming for all, available to all.”
