Canal Fulton, Ohio is conveniently located in northwest Stark County. Many adventures await Canalway cyclists between Canal Fulton and Massillon on the Towpath Trail. This historic canal town is home to a historic district boasting more than 80 homes, buildings and sites listed on the National Historic Register. Operated by the city of Canal Fulton, the Canal Fulton Canalway Center is a staffed visitor and information center that promotes the cultural, historic and recreational assets of Canal Fulton and the Ohio & Erie Canalway. Located in St. Helena Heritage Park along the Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath Trail. The center’s staff provides visitors with information about area activities, businesses and events. In partnership with the Canal Fulton Heritage Society, the Canalway Center offers a DVD video and interpretation panels that present the history of the canal and the Canal Fulton area. Visitors can purchase St. Helena III Canal Boat ride tickets at the Canalway Center. The Canalway Center’s hours are: April 4 - 26, Saturday & Sunday Only; 10 AM - 4 PM. April 27 - September 25; Mon. - Fri. 10 AM - 4 PM / Sat. & Sun., 10 AM - 6 PM September 26 - October 25: Saturday & Sunday Only; 10 AM - 4 PM. HISTORICAL ATTRACTIONS St. Helena III Canal Boat Rides Operated by the City of Canal Fulton and the Canal Fulton Heritage Society, the St. Helena III Canal Boat rides offer the public the chance to ride a replica cargo canal boat pulled by two work horses, one mile south, and back on the original Ohio & Erie Canal. The boat travels past the renovated McLaughlin Dry Dock and Lock 4. During the one hour ride, the crew steer with a rudder and poles, while a historian on board provides facts and stories of life, during Ohio’s canal era.

Old Canal Days Museum

Once known as the “smallest museum in America”. The museum houses a colorful display of Canal Fulton’s history and an excellent collection of tools used to build and repair canal boats. The museum is located at the entrance of the St. Helena Heritage Park. Open during the boat season, Sat. & Sun. 12-4

Oberlin House Built during the height of the canal-era in 1847, is a “salt-box” style structure that serves as a living museum, and is decorated and furnished with antiques suitable to the period. The Oberlin House is located a couple blocks North of the Canalway Center. Contact the Canalway Center for hours of operation.

While visiting Canal Fulton, you will see there is more to see on State Route 93 on the western side of Stark County, Ohio. Within a twenty-five minute drive,whether you travel North or ‘South, you can visit such places as the MAPS Air Museum just North of Canal Fulton to Amish Country just to our South. In the area of MAPS Air Museum is Harry London Candies located just across the Akron/Canton Airport main terminal. Going south to Amish Door Village, take a slight detour off Rt. 93 to Rt, 57 and visit the Orrville Railroad Depot. Take a train excursion and visit the train museum. Visit a Ohio Winery. Perennial Vineyards is just 15 min. south of Canal Fulton, The Winery of Wolf Creek is just 25 min. north off Rt. 21.
