Julia und Tobias Moretti gehören zu den bekanntesten Paaren der österreichischen Kulturszene. Kira Grünberg, eine österreichische Leichtathletin, deren Karriere und Leben durch einen tragischen Unfall eine dramatische Wendung nahmen, ist eine bemerkenswerte Persönlichkeit. obias Moretti, geboren 1959 in Gries am Brenner, Tirol, ist einer der renommiertesten Schauspieler Österreichs. Nach seiner Ausbildung am Mozarteum in Salzburg startete er eine beeindruckende Karriere im Theater, Fernsehen und Kino. International bekannt wurde er durch seine Rolle als Kommissar Richard Moser in der Erfolgsserie „Kommissar Rex“. hen Johann Georg Schlechter abandoned his trade as a wainwright in 1921 to pursue the dream of owning his own ski workshop he could hardly have imagined such a legendary legacy: the fastest ski in Kitzbühel’s first sports store and 100 years dedicated to the sport. Or to put it another way: Kitzsport is celebrating 100 years – and the centenary milestone is being commemorated in all of the store’s locations!

Let’s go back to the year 1921: Johann Georg Schlechter becomes enthralled by the fascination of skiing, giving up his wainwright -

ing business to develop the “Kitzbühel Ski.” Because of the innovative technology behind it, the ski with the chamois became an international hit, going on to shatter world records for speed. Kitzsport redefines (ski) service. In the 80s, Hansjörg Schlechter recognized that the future lay in the service sector, so he put ski manufacturing on hold and merged with Sport Pepi to become the largest sporting goods supplier in the region. In the 80s, Schlechter, who sadly passed away in May 2021, was the very first to offer ski rental services directly at the valley stations, as well as ski service on the mountain. n

The cultural Heritage of Austrian Wine

One of Austria’s oldest and richest-in-tradition wine estates will celebrate its 850th vintage with the 2020 harvest. The history of Schloss Gobelsburg is closely interwoven with that of the Cistercian Order, which spread from Burgundy throughout all of Europe and arrived at the Danube in the

twelfth century. In the year 1171, the monks of Zwettl Abbey obtained a farmyard at the foot of the famous vineyard Ried HEILIGENSTEIN near Langenlois. That year saw the cornerstone laid for a tradition that would then grow and flourish over hundreds of years.

The Renaissance chateau with its baroque accretions nestles picturesquely into the gentle terraced vineyards of the Danube River Valley. When travelling from Vienna and coming upon the first vineyards at Fels am Wagram, the attentive visitor will notice hilly landscapes moulded from a soil called loess, in which the flagship grape variety of Austria –Grüner Veltliner – is cultivated predominantly. Approaching the estate, the impressive terraced vineyards of Ried HEILIGENSTEIN arise on the right, its expression best characterised by the Riesling that grows there. Historians are keenly aware of the significance of this vineyard site, which is not only unique in Europe for its geologic makeup, but also occupies a historically pre-eminent position in Austria’s viticultural landscape.

Arriving at Gobelsburg, visitors are immediately aware of the eye-catching ensemble constellation, which reaches back through history to pre-Celtic habitation some 4,000 years ago. Entering the inner courtyard, one is immediately embraced by a sense of security. A sundial shows that even in modern times, the Cistercian leitmotif of ‘simplicity & strictness’ most definitely retains its relevance. The door to the wine cellar creaks open, and automatically upon entering one breathes the characteristic & familiar cellar aroma that remains so difficult to describe. The visitor proceeds

onward through corridors hundreds of years old, past wine in barrels & bottles, until arriving at the core of the cellar facilities – a cloister whose centre serves as a fountain of light, air and water. Michael Moosbrugger, who took over management of this traditional house in 1996, tells us that the monastic ways still exert their influence on operational matters today. Not only that folks celebrate the yield of the harvest together after picking, and feast on the traditional Sankt Martin’s Day goose, but also that the spirit of the Cistercians remains an important influence on many decisions. And at the wine tasting in these historic chambers, one begins by becoming acquainted with the classic wines of the Danube Valley – Gebietswein (regional wine), Ortswein (village wine) and Riedenwein (harvested from individual vineyards) serve as points of focus for the estate.

There is also a series of specialties that demands attention as well. The fine red wines of the Pinot family, or the sweet wines – but their classy sparkling wines (Sekt) are now also numbered among the best that Austria has to offer. And then the subject ‘Maturity in Wine’ receives special attention in the line of wines known as TRADITION. „Grünberg stellte mehrere österreichische Rekorde im Stabhochsprung auf und galt als eines der größten Talente in dieser Disziplin. Ihr persönlicher Rekord stand bei 4,45 Metern, aufgestellt im Mai 2015, nur wenige Monate vor ihrem lebensverändernden Unfall. Der Unfall beim Training führte zu einer schweren Rückenmarksverletzung, die eine Querschnittslähmung zur Folge hatte und ihre sportliche Karriere abrupt beendete.

Die Entschlossenheit und Stärke, die Grünberg in den folgenden Jahren zeigte, inspirierte viele Menschen sowohl in Österreich als auch international. Trotz der Herausforderungen, die mit ihrer Verletzung einhergingen, widmete sie sich weiterhin öffentlichen Aufgaben und begann eine neue Karriere in der Politik. Courage and motivation: an inspiring journey

Kira Grünberg, an Austrian track and field athlete whose career and life took a dramatic turn following a tragic accident, is a remarkable personality in both sport and politics. Born on 13 September 1993 in Innsbruck, Grünberg specialized in pole vaulting. Her sporting career was marked by success until she suffered a serious accident during a training session in July 2015.

Grünberg set several Austrian records in the pole vault and was considered one of the greatest talents in this discipline. Her personal record stood at 4.45 meters, set in May 2015, just a few months before her life-changing accident. The accident during training led to a serious spinal cord injury, which resulted in paraplegia and brought her sporting career to an abrupt end.

The determination and strength Grünberg showed in the following years inspired many people both in Austria and internationally. Despite the challenges that came with her injury, she continued to dedicate herself to public duties and began a new career in politics. Kira Grünberg joined an Austrian political party and was elected as a member of the National Council in 2017.

In her political career, Grünberg is particularly committed to people with disabilities as well as sport and youth. She is known for her commitment to accessibility and inclusion and uses her platform to raise awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by people with disabilities.

Her resume and work clearly show how she has turned adversity into opportunity. Kira Grünberg is a role model of resilience and determination and has continued to engage with society and bring important issues to the forefront even after her accident.
