From the Introduction: ‘’Ruysbroeck finds within himself a constant craving, a continual inward longing. He describes how the attitude of the true lover of God is ‘an intellectual gazing’ and ‘a loving inclination’ towards Him, mind and will aspiring to intimate communion with the God of All. ‘Behold,’ he cries, ‘we are one life in God,’ and, through love and virtue, we shall come to our Eternal Life and Rest in Him.’’
