at every time check point, who take the time card and verify that the drivers are at the right check point, and provide the new time for the next checkpoint. Getting to the check point at the wrong time means receiving a time penalty, which is added to the overall time. Thus, the drivers must be careful not only on the track, but also with their calculations. Each rally day usually includes three car maintenance breaks: the first in the morning, where the car is reviewed prior to doing the speed tests, the second during the day in between speed tests, and the third at the end of the day. There are also rallies where there are no maintenance breaks, and the drivers have to choose a more careful driving style. The drivers are allowed to fix the car between speed tests, but they cannot use outside help and tools and spare parts that they do not already have with them. All maintenance breaks have a fixed length of time period, and the drivers still have to make it to the check point at the right time. To know where the speed tests are held, the drivers have a special roadbook, which acts as a sort of high-precision GPS device, only it is on paper.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CO-DRIVER
The driver is the one who gets more attention during the rally, but the truth is, that without the co-driver he would not be able to do much. The co-driver is responsible for the maintenance breaks and much more. He is the link between the team and the driver, he passes on information on how many litres of fuel should be taken in during refuelling. In smaller national teams the co-driver's responsibility often also includes making the reservations for hotels, booking plane tickets and 32 Direction

Самые успешные пилоты чемпионатов мира по авторалли – девятикратный чемпион мира Себастьен Лёб, четырехкратные чемпионы мира Томми Мякинен, Юха Канккунен и Себастьян Ожье.
