Em conjunto com a divulgação das músicas de repasse, outras duas iniciativas têm contribuído para unir os grupos folclóricos do Vale do Itajaí. Uma delas é o Encontro de Grupos de Danças Folclóricas Alemãs, chamado de Tanz Blumenau. O evento ocorre anualmente, com uma peculiaridade: enquanto em um ano a participação é dos casais adultos, no seguinte é a vez do Kindertanz, voltado à categoria infanto-juvenil. “Temos a premissa de não participar ou promover disputas de danças. As apresentações do Tanz são para unir os grupos, não para eleger qual o melhor”, afirma Hoffmann. As tradições germânicas cultivadas pelos grupos não ficam restritas às danças ou às canções. Isso pode ser percebido nas “olimpíadas” organizadas regularmente pelas agremiações. Entre as provas estão desde disputas tradicionais como tiro ao alvo, tiro ao pássaro e lenhador, até provas típicas de gincana, como corrida do saco, cabo-de-guerra e corrida do ovo. Segundo Hoffmann, o grupo que organiza as Olimpíadas não participa das provas e o grupo vencedor é quem organiza o evento no ano seguinte. Although the main purpose of the groups is mainly dancing, many of them include in their activities music bands and choirs of typical German songs.
