Diocese of Crookston native lives ‘adventure’ of consecrated life in Texas Editor’s Note: To continue our Year of Consecrated Life series, OND will begin profiling individuals from the Diocese of Crookston who are living their vocation to consecrated life outside of the diocese. By Katrina Genereux Staff Writer, OND
Sister Nancy Boushey, OSB, is currently living out her call to consecrated life at Good Shepherd Monastery in Rio Grande City, Texas. She grew up in East Grand Forks and attended Sacred Heart School. “I was raised in a strong Catholic environment at home which was backed up by my Catholic education,” she said. “I was attracted to the spiritual dimension of it all – the prayer, Mass, religion classes.” She added that the Benedictine Sisters of Mount Saint Benedict who taught her through the years served as loving and joyful examples of
consecrated life. Sister Nancy recalls hungering for more, and asking herself how she could give her all to God. She considered a variety of options including marriage, becoming a Sister of the Good Shepherd in the Twin Cities area to care for troubled teens, or becoming a nurse and serving in Africa. As things turned out, her discernment eventually led her just half an hour away. She joined the Benedictines in Crookston right after high school in 1963, making her first profession two years later and her final profession in 1970. As a Benedictine at Mount Saint Benedict, Sister Nancy served in a variety of ways, teaching in Detroit Lakes, serving youth at the Mount boarding school, and ministering at the Fort Totten and Red Lake reservations. In 1985, Sister Nancy describes herself as being at a crossroads and wanting some-

The planning team considered different words that summarized the verse and settled on “awaken.” “Today, our goal is to awaken your guys’ mind, awaken your hearts and souls so you can come to understand a little bit more of what it is Jesus did and what he taught us,” said Brett Knudson, one of the emcees for the day. Knudson is from Ada, and is studying mathematics at NDSU. Abbie Kohler, from Cathedral, Crookston, was Knudson’s co-emcee. While planning the youth rally, organizers entrusted it to the
