Catechumens, candidates formally welcomed

CROOKSTON, MINN. – More than 80 people gathered for the 2016 Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion for the Diocese of Crookston on Feb. 14 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The Rite of Election is the ceremony in which catechumens (those seeking initiation through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) from across the Diocese of Crookston are presented to the bishop and write their names in the Book of Elect. The Call to Continuing Conversion is celebrated by candidates (those who have already been baptized, but who seek initiation through Confirmation and RITE: Continued on Page 6

Red Lake Falls parishioners celebrate end of renovation

Bishop Hoeppner blesses new areas of St. Joseph’s, celebrates Mass in updated sanctuary By Janelle C. Gergen Associate Editor, OND

RED LAKE FALLS, MINN. – Bishop Michael J. Hoeppner traveled to Red Lake Falls on Feb. 14, to celebrate Mass at St. Joseph’s Parish and bless the building that underwent a $1.2 million renovation. Work was completed this month after a three-year process of planning and construction that began with former pastor, Father Chuck Huck, in the fall of 2012, and finished under the direction of current pastor, Father Bill DeCrans. As he prepared holy water for the blessing at the close of Mass, Bishop Hoeppner prayed, “Bless now this water, sanctified as it is sprinkled upon us and on this entire space.
