October 2, 2021 Welcome and thank you for attending Nathan Adelson Hospice’s 25th Annual Serenades of Life Doctors in Concert.

Established by Dr. Edwin Kingsley, a Nathan Adelson Hospice Board of Trustee member, this great evening of entertainment is a showcase of the extraordinary musical talents of local physicians while raising funds for the Bonnie Schreck Memorial Complementary Therapies Program.

Tonight, our great friend Brad Garrett will be our Master of Ceremonies. We are honored to have as our headliner a young man who was a finalist on America’s Got Talent whose star continues to rise, Daniel Emmet.

Proceeds from tonight’s concert will benefit the Bonnie Schreck Memorial Complementary Therapies Program, established in memory of philanthropist Bonnie Schreck. This vital program uses proven interventions that complement traditional medicine, and help patients feel more comfortable by reducing pain, stress, and anxiety.

Daniel Emmet Stars know stars, and they instinctively know when there’s a new one in the making.

That’s why powerhouse tenor Daniel Emmet was showered with stardust during his appearances on NBC’s hit series, “America’s Got Talent (AGT).” Judge Simon Cowell said his voice was so mighty, “the stage lit up in fire.” Judge Heidi Klum called Emmet “a great performer” with “the most beautiful voice.”

Judge Mel B heaped praise on his “passion, delivery and pitch perfect voice” and said she “could listen to him all night.”

As a finalist on season 13 of AGT, the multi-lingual, multi-genre Emmet is best known for taking on the “impossible challenge,” levied

by Cowell --- to learn a new song in Italian in one hour, then perform it live on national television. His run to the finals on AGT was sensational. It culminated in a command performance in the finale of the season --- a stunning duet with opera star Plàcido Domingo.

Domingo said of Emmet, “He is the future . . . a great entertainer.”

Emmet is a Las Vegas headline performer, soloist with prestigious orchestras, guest star on numerous national TV shows and a recording artist. He has toured with singer Marie Osmond who described him as “a star on the rise with a once in a generation voice.”

Emmet is known as a “wow” performer, attracting legions of old and new fans. His latest single, “True Reflection” debuted at #1 on the iTunes classical chart. He headlined his own show, “All That I Am,” for an exclusive run at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. He appeared on the first season of the CW network’s hit summer series, “The Big Stage,” and debuted his solo symphonic concert tour with the Irving Symphony.

Highlighted recent and upcoming events include: a guest appearance with renowned guitarist Pavlo for a brand new PBS Special, filming in Santorini, Greece; a cameo appearance singing an original song in an upcoming holiday TV movie; headlining his own symphonic concert with the Symphony of Southeast Texas; and joining Marie Osmond as a special guest on her Symphonic Christmas tour this December, among others.

Bonnie Schreck Bonnie Schreck was an amazing wife and mother, a powerful businesswoman, and a noble advocate for various charities in this great city she called home. While she loved her career as an entertainment director at various venues throughout Las Vegas, at the age of 36, she discovered a new joy in her first child, Derek.

Three years later, her precious daughter Sydney completed the family for Bonnie and her husband Frank.

In the late 1990’s, Bonnie was diagnosed with cancer. Despite the doctor’s prognosis of a six-month life expectancy, her philosophy of “fight to live” overshadowed her illness, allowing her 18 months of quality time with her family and friends. Bonnie is remembered as a passionate woman with a strong desire to help those in need.

Her legacy will forever shine through the Bonnie Schreck Memorial Complementary Therapies Program at Nathan Adelson Hospice.

The Bonnie Schreck Memorial Complementary Therapies Program As a tribute to his wife, in 1999, Frank Schreck established Complementary Therapies with the belief that there are interventions that complement traditional medical treatments.

Therapists focus on resolving feelings of sadness, fear and anxiety and aid physicians and nurses in relieving pain symptoms.

Research studies have documented that complementary therapies reduce stress and anxiety, decrease depression and help lessen physical discomfort. Our program is customized to ease the emotional, mental and physical discomfort experienced by our patients. Our staff is comprised of certified practitioners and licensed therapists that offer emotional, mental and physical support.

The Complementary Therapies offered include aromatherapy, pet therapy, reflexology, art and music therapy, massage therapy and Reiki.

Nathan Adelson About Nathan Adelson Born in Omaha, Nebraska and raised in Los Angeles, California, Nathan Adelson was the first administrator for Sunrise Hospital. Always looking for a better way, he insisted on only the most sophisticated equipment and encouraged doctors to employ the latest techniques. His drive to always provide the best patient care elevated Sunrise Hospital far beyond national hospital standards.

After cancer took Mr. Adelson in 1978, Irwin and Susan Molasky, and his son Merv Adelson along with many friends wanted Mr. Adelson’s vision and memory to live on. They established a hospice which, like Nathan Adelson himself, is dedicated to maintaining patient dignity, easing suffering and improving the quality of life for each person. Today, Nathan Adelson Hospice stands as a most fitting tribute to a very special man.

In Memoriam - Dr. Alan Arnold

Dr. Arnold grew up in Los Angeles where he learned piano at the age of seven. He studied medicine at UCLA, Lafayette Clinic in Detroit, and Emory University in Atlanta. In 1975 he decided to move to Las Vegas, where his uncle, Murray Arnold, was headlining as a pianist in the Sky Room of the old Desert Inn Hotel, to start his psychiatry practice. He spent a very enjoyable two years treating numerous celebrities for weight loss with behavior therapy and performing on the piano. He returned to Las Vegas in 1980 as a board certified dermatologist and one of the original Mohs Surgeons and reconstruction surgeons in dermatology.

Dr. Arnold beagn to perform as part of the Serenades of Life Doctors in Concert in 2002. Each year, Dr. Arnold would compose a beautiful new piece for this concert. Aside from performing on his own, he also accompanied Dr. Linda Woodson for many years.

Dr. Alan Arnold will truly be missed by all.

Physician Performers Dr. Henry Wang Dr. Henry Wang has been practicing Internal Medicine in Las Vegas since 1997. He strongly believes in a well-balanced life style. He loves science, sport, and music. He attended music conservatory in elementary school and was the Concert Master for his high school orchestra. He enjoyed playing sports and played on his high school basketball team.

After earning a Biology degree at UCLA, he received his Medical degree from Creighton University then went on to USC for his Internal Medicine residency. Following the unexpected death of his father on the last year of his residency, he decided to moved to Las Vegas where his sister and her family live. He has a busy solo medical practice and is married with three children.

Nathan Wang Nathan is sixteen years old and is a Junior at Clark High school. He is the second child of Dr. Henry Wang. He loves math and music. He started playing piano when he was three and a half years old and violin when he was five. He also plays the viola. He loves the challenge of solving math problems. In April 2021, he ranked second in the state of Nevada and fourth in the Nation for his age at the Math Kangaroo Competition.

Physician Performers Linda Woodson, M.D. Linda is a dermatologist and has been a resident of Las Vegas for over 20 years. She is a Los Angeles native who attended the University of Southern California Medical School. She also holds an Electrical Engineering degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

She has enjoyed singing since her childhood and has sung in numerous ensembles over the years. She enjoys singing jazz as well as performing in musical theater. Her role as Muzzy in Signature Production’s “Thoroughly Modern Millie” recently earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Female in a musical in the Las Vegas Valley Theater Awards. She is currently a lead singer in Jazzmin, a vocal jazz ensemble, has performed with “The Queens of Jazz” and has won several Las Vegas Black Music Awards, including Best Female Lounge Singer and the Dorothy Dandridge Image Award. Linda is also a poet and songwriter. Some of her original compositions are featured on her website LindaWoodson.com. She is the very proud mother of her three amazing children, Johnnie III, Mark and Monique.

Uli Geissendoerfer (Accompianist) German-American pianist, composer and educator, Uli Geissendoerfer moved from New York in 2009 to be the pianist and bandleader with Cirque du Soleil’s Viva Elvis production. Invited by Dave Loeb, he started teaching at UNLV, resurrecting the Latin Jazz Ensemble at UNLV. Aside from initiating a lecture series at the University, he serves as curator for the Steinway Concert Series, and founded the Jazz Club at the Dispensary Lounge (winning Best of Las Vegas).

His current projects include the Uli Geissendoerfer Trio, backbone of the Jazz Club, with their CD “Long Way Home”, the “Beregovski Suite,” a duo with the fabulous, awardwinning violin virtuoso, Alicia Svigals, and his world music group, Colors, featuring Pascale Elia.

Physician Performers Alter’d Ego Dr. Ed Kingsley Ed Kingsley, M.D. was born in Virginia and grew up in Utah where he played in a variety of dance bands in high school and college. He’s played the organ for his church congregations and choirs for over four decades, enjoys playing the piano at wedding receptions and other social events, and has played with Alter’d Ego since 1995 (with a long sabbatical).

His greatest accomplishment, however, is his marriage of 47 years to Kathy, and enjoying their three terrific children, three granddaughters and one grandson. He and his wife have made Las Vegas their home since 1985. He’s a medical oncologist, hematologist, medical education instructor & cancer researcher when not playing music.

Dr. David Miller Dave Miller, M.D. is a pathologist, bassist, and Chicago native. He studied classical guitar, played in various bands since junior high school (including his father’s), and has had professional studio recording experience. He is currently a member of the band “Alter’d Ego” (the band formerly known as “Alter Ego”). Dave has lived in Las Vegas since 1989 with his wife, Donna, daughter Abby (and her husband, Eugen, granddaughter Maya Annabella); and son William (and wife Ashley and grandsons Hudson Nicholas and Greyson Blair).

Physician Performers Phronsie Markin Phronsie, a native of Southern California, met her loving husband, Randy, in 1979, married and moved to Las Vegas in 1980. Their greatest accomplishment together is their family of 2 children, 5 grandchildren… daughter Kelly/husband Sean, Gianna, Parker and Jackson and son Michael/daughter-inlaw Dominique, Myles, Micah and their newest granddaughter, Mackenzie!

At age 5, Phronsie found her love of singing, performing publically, and studying several musical instruments; accordion, acoustic guitar and piano. Throughout her formative years, high school and college, she performed at many special events with several bands, including a threeyear stint on the Strip in the early 1980’s for Paul Anka, Barry Manilow and Jerry Lewis MD Telethons.

While raising her family, she studied residential interior design, operated three casinos with her husband as a gaming casino executive, and a senior fitness business owner.

Now semi-retired, Phronsie performs a few times a year with the talented members of Alter’d Ego. Volunteering as Technical/Production coordinator for Serenades of Life is a distinct honor and privilege for this amazing annual event. Her goal is to raise community awareness for the wonderful benefits received of Nathan Adelson Hospice staff, and supporting the Bonnie Schreck Memorial Complimentary Therapies program. No one should end the journey of life alone, afraid or in pain …

Physician Performers Larry Tindall Larry Tindall has been a resident of Southern Nevada since 1959. He is a Registered Residential Designer and has been in the design profession for 48 years. He is a partner of GreeneTindall Design Group, Owner of LTRD Corp, and Co-Owner of LTRD Development.

Larry’s musical career spans several decades as a drummer, guitar player, and singer/song writer.

“Entertaining people thru music with the very talented musicians in Alter’d Ego is amazing. It is a privilege to be involved with the Serenades of Life Concert for the Nathan Adelson Hospice. I’m very excited this year to share the stage once again with all the wonderful performers, it is truly unforgettable,” said Tindall.

Larry is married to Andrea and they have three children, Eric (Amber), Melissa (Noah), and Amanda (Ryan) and nine grandchildren, Josh, Paige, Tucker, Wyatt, Connor, Lily, Peyton, Vivian, and Teddy.

Brad Torchin Brad grew up in a musical family, zeroing in on guitar when he was only eight years old. He played guitar, bass and keyboards for years in the Southern California club scene while studying music composition along with software engineering at UCSD. Concurrent to his career in enterprise data architecture, he has enjoyed many years of playing throughout the US, currently performing as Lindsey Buckingham in the national tribute band Fleetwood Nicks, as well as playing lead guitar in HeartAlive, a tribute to Heart. All his children are musicians, keeping their family musical tradition alive and strong.

Physician Performers Kenneth A. Woloson Ken has been a commercial transactional, trusts/estates and real estate attorney since 1980. He is rated “AV” in the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings and has been a Nevada resident since 1971.

Since 1990, Ken has been a featured vocalist and keyboardist with “Alter’d Ego,” the band “formerly known as “Alter Ego!” Ken and his wife, Mary, have recently become “empty nesters,” with the last of their four children, Katherine, now a junior at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production.

Their oldest daughter, Kristina, is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Las Vegas and is working as the Pastry Chef at Northern Quest, a hotel/casino run by the Kalispell Native American Tribe located in Spokane, Washington. Their next oldest daughter, Kayla, is a graduate of Colorado University in Boulder, Colorado, and for many years had been living and working in San Francisco, California and is now back in Las Vegas as a Fitness Instructor, Health Coach and a Manager at SoulCycle at the Wynn Hotel. Their son, Michael, recently graduated from Studio School LA, obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Digital Content.

Their granddaughter has just begun second grade, with her baby brother having arrived in August!

Physician Performers Dr. June Sigman June has been a practicing Pathologist in Las Vegas since 1997. She is originally from Appleton, Wisconsin and was raised in a family that strongly encouraged classical music studies. After years of piano and oboe lessons, June focused her musical efforts on vocal performance, musical theatre, school choral groups and church choirs. She continued at the college level and also performed in a medical school rock band.

In 1996, she interviewed for a job with Laboratory Medicine Consultants in Las Vegas and met Dr. Marcus Erling, one of the founding members of Alter Ego. Long story short, she was invited to join Alter Ego as a vocalist and performed with them regularly for 9 years before retiring from the band to spend more time with her family. Over the last several years, she has been humbled and honored to brush off her vocal cords annually to join the group for the annual Serenades of Life - Doctors in Concert, to benefit the Nathan Adelson Hospice!

Ira Spector Ira Spector has enjoyed singing lead and backup vocals and playing rhythm and lead guitar for Alter Ego and Alter’d Ego beginning in 1994. Ira is a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and often functions as a vocational rehabilitation forensic expert providing expert testimony in personal injury cases that involve individuals who are not able to return to the same types of work they were doing at the time of their injuries. Ira and Nanette have two sons Brandon and Aaron of whom they are very proud. Ira also plays guitar and sings in the Shabbatones with David Miller and Brad Torchin in a Sabbath band from Congregation Ner Tamid with whom he has played for the past 20 years.

Dr. Thomas Nelson Abdella (1949-2021) Dr. Abdella spent over 40 years bringing high-risk babies into the world and was well-respected among his patients, staff and colleagues. He was a pioneer in the early 80’s introducing computers as a way of charting and storing records in hospitals. He was ahead of his time with the collaboration of medicine and computers.

Dr. Abdella’s philanthropy work became his main focus after his stage-4 cancer diagnosis was caught in 2016. He enjoyed giving to those in need an seeing the direct impact. Through the Thomas Nelson Abdella, M.D. Foundation, his legacy and philanthropy will continue to make an impact for years to come.
