The passive soil reaction at depth y = u × y × d × Kp, where y = depth of the footing, u = unit weight of soil, d = diameter (or breadth if it is rectangular) of the footing, Kp = coefficient of soil passive pressure. Kp = (1 + sin ) / (1 - sin ), where = soil internal angle of friction. The allowable soil pressure under the base of the footing is a higher value than the allowable lateral pressure.
