The Abandoned Hospital Lights flicker. The tapping of my shoes echo on the frozen floor tap… tap…tap as I enter the vast, almost empty open room. My blood starts to chill…freeze, spine shiver, knees weak. The gloomy light, thicker than fog, makes it almost impossible to see more than five meters in front of me. There’s silence; nothing but the voice in my head. I walk towards the stairs, slipping on the wet slimy floor
Term 2 usually shapes up to be quite a busy time for interschool sports. There has been plenty of action particularly early in the term, and some disruptions to sporting dates later on. Echuca College has seen success in a number of sporting events this term, and will be hoping to see more in the events to come. In week 1 our students participated in the Campaspe interschool senior soccer. Echuca College senior girls’ soccer team had a cracker of a day at the Moama soccer fields. They won the first two games against Ky P-12 and St Augustines, then lost the third by a goal. Lady of the match and highest scorer for the day was Captain Jessica Zlateff.

The wind made it tough for our boys on the day. Although competitive, our boys went down to St Josephs by 4 goals, lost to Moama Grammar by 7 points and managed a draw with Rochester Secondary College. The boys put in a stellar effort despite the conditions. Best players for the day were Zachary Ross, Max Childs, Ricky Ridley and Coby Cox.
Unfortunately, our year 7 & 8 soccer, intermediate footy, junior,
intermediate and senior netball events had to be
postponed. We look forward to having these teams represent our school hopefully in the near future, and continue the
success our school is having at these events.
Design Technologies The Technology Team have been working extremely hard to provide students with an opportunity to learn skills in producing a range of products in both wood and metal.
Year 7 Design and Technology – Wood This semester year 7 students designed and constructed a marble maze. Students used the design process, to investigate similar options.
Students used a range
of hand tools and safe practices to produce their maze.
Year 8 Design and Technology Mr Maitland’s Year 8 Design and Technology have been
effectively and safely using a broad
range of tools, equipment and techniques to produce a Timber Folding Stool.
Year 9 Metal The appeal of designing, making and using a product was a focus of Mr Exton’s metal class this semester. Made from Australian steel and fabricated by hand the portable Outdoor BBQ made this semester will be a very useful item for the next camping adventure. We would like to make a special Thank You to RIVA FAB PTY LTD for suppling the materials that were used for the Camping Skillet and BBQ project made in Year 9 Metal this semes-
ter.
Year 10 Metal Fabrication Mr Maitland’s Year 10 Metal Fabrication have been working flexibly to safely test, select, justify and use appropriate technologies and processes to construct Pot Belly Stoves throughout semester 1.
Year 10 Woodwork Students in Mr Exton’s year 10 Woodwork class re-designed a bedside cabinet. Each student used the tools and equipment in the woodwork room to cut, join and shape each component to the correct size. The development of skills in design and production enabled each student to achieve the outcomes for the subject. The cabinet was assembled and finished to suit their needs.
VET Certificate II Building & Construction Students undertaking VET Building and Construction have been developing their real-life carpentry skills as they build Cubby Houses as part of their certificate. The construction is undertaken in teams and each group has completed each stage well. The Cubby houses will become available for sale later on in the year.

We welcome the opportunity to build strong and supportive connections with you.
Regular careers and pathways updates are provided directly to students and parents through Xuno, home group announcements and the college’s careers and pathways website. Term 3 will be a busy month for Tertiary Information Services (TIS), VTAC Information Night, most open days (virtual & actual), webinars, VTAC preparation, applications, early offer programs and guarantees, research - please make sure you access information and resources when they become available to you. All this year’s VCE and VCAL students are encouraged to make an appointment to see me. Even if you are fairly certain about where you think you might be headed after you finish school or the subjects you might choose, come and have a discussion to ensure you are on the right track.

EXITING & PAST STUDENTS: Part of my role involves making contact with all past students to see how they are going with their transition from secondary school. Please remember that this contact benefits the college in their planning and implementation of further initiatives and I really enjoy speaking to parents and students about what they are doing. I am also able to support any student who may not have found their ‘niche’ as yet, to move into employment, training or other education, even after they have left the
college. These contacts will be ongoing throughout
each year. 2020 Year 12 completers have been my latest contacts and it has been

The Kanyapella House was a hive of activity throughout Term 2! The students participated in many school events. We had several top 10 finishers in the Cross Country, with special mention to Hunter Beveridge and Gabbey Beveridge, who placed first in their respective age groups. Our students enjoyed events such as the Defence Force Recruitment Presentation, the Year 12 v Teachers Games Night, IDAHOBIT Day, Year 9 Mock Interviews and many more. The students thank all those who contributed to the organisation of special events and activities.
Such achievements as these are important to mention as they highlight how students demonstrate PRIDE values beyond their time at school, values we hope all Kanyapella’s students were also busy in their chosen passions away from the classroom. Several success

The SRC are looking forward to Wellbeing day (23rd July) and have numerous responsibilities on the day to ensure it runs smoothly, lets all keep our fingers crossed that Covid doesn’t strike and we get fair weather. The SRC are also looking at putting a proposal forward regarding slight alterations to the College uniform, more information to follow once we have spoken to the new acting Principal. Lastly, we will be celebrating the last day of term 2 with a casual dress day for ‘Do It For Dolly’ the SRC would ask all students to make a gold coin donation and wear something blue to help raise awareness of bullying. Can I lastly just thank all SRC members for your continued support of the college your hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed! Thank You.
