01 POLICE & MAINTENANCE BUILDING AT TAMPA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

TAMPA, FL - PROFESSIONAL WORK, HNTB

The aim of the design was to fulfill the needs of the growing Tampa International Airport. As the airport continues to expand its facilities and grow in space and manpower, a creative solution was required in order to house more of the airport’s workers and make use of existing square footage that belonged to the airport.

The project team was tasked with retrofitting a building inside the existing long-term parking garage that connects with the Blue Side terminal. Workers needed a space where they could easily be accessible to the airport without necessarily taking space away from serviceable areas or heavy airport traffic.

Responsibilities: Presentation renderings, schematic design floor plans, production of construction documents, BIM coordination.

POLICE & MAINTENANCE BUILDING - BLUESIDE ENTRY

RETROFITTING AN

One of the greatest challenges that came with this project was figuring out how to properly create proper connections between the existing long-term parking garage, and the building that was being retrofitted.

There were also challenges of security and privacy issues to account for, as police officers and staff have levels of confidentiality that cannot be revealed to the public.

A facade was created that would functionally mask the confidentiality needs of the police, as well as be in line with the overall design of the existing parking garage and Tampa International Airport.

DENVER CONCOURSE LEVEL RENDERING - BY T. CRANE

DENVER, CO - PROFESSIONAL WORK, HNTB

For these concourse expansions, HNTB was tasked with providing terminal and airside planning, architectural, structural design, as well as construction management services. The project consisted of including 12 new gates that would expand off of the renovated portion of the concourse and new construction towards the west.

Responsibilities: BIM Clash detection and discipline coordination, production of construction documents, holdroom layout design and programming.

02 A-WEST & B-WEST CONCOURSE EXPANSION

CONCOURSE EXISTING CEILING LAYOUT

DEN RENEWAL AND RENOVATION

Design options were heavily explored for prototypical areas that were developed with project goals in mind. Denver requested that designs be extensively studied for ceiling and lighting options, furniture configurations, and finishes and materiality. Plans, diagrams, and 3D renderings were developed to illustrate the effects that each modification would make to a space. Based off of these designs, the client would be able to determine a holdroom type to use as the basis of design in upcoming phases of the project.

CLASHES DETECTED BETWEEN DISCPLINES

BIM AND CLASH DETECTION

Clash detection played a key role in developing this expansion; as the project progressed it was glaringly apparent that proper coordination between disciplines were needed. Utilizing programs, such as NavisWorks with the Revit model, clashes could be detected and exported to show directly where different models were running into each other. Using such methods, architects, and engineers, could coordinate things such as cutouts in CMU walls for HVAC, or plumbing fixtures, and other various tasks.

SECURITY CHECKPOINT STUDY

HOUSTON, TX - PROFESSIONAL WORK, HNTB

For this programming study, HNTB was tasked to configure the passenger experience from arrival, all the way to security checkpoint, and to the holdroom. One of the unique challenges of this study was being able to accurately recreate models of the Automated Screening Lanes, as there was a lack BIM information or modeling that existed. The client requested to see floor plans and 3D renderings to mock up and use as a basis of design moving forward.

Responsibilities: Diagrammatic floor plans, BIM family modeling, 3D renderings.

03 GEORGE BUSH INTERCONTINENTAL AIRPORT

MODELING AND RENDER

This process required research and design study in order to accurately convey the passenger experience through the checkpoint. Starting from a 2D blueprint, a series of models were created and rendered in order to showcase final presentation images to the client.

04 SENSORY PAVILION

LAWRENCE,KS - ACADEMIC WORK, UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS

The Audio-Reader Sensory Garden lies tucked away in the north side of campus of the University of Kansas. The Audio-Reader Network, the group who cultivated the garden, serves the vision-impaired community through their radio network as well as other community inspired projects.

The Sensory Pavilion was a student led design-build project run by the Dirt Works Studio program at the University of Kansas. A team of 20 students split responsibilities, planned and designed a pavilion that would serve the needs of the community in the same way that the Audio Reader Network served them.

The proposal aimed to reflect the same goals as the Audio Reader Network and the garden that had been created, described to be, “...filled with flowers, herbs, and accessories to delight the senses...”

Responsibilities: Rammed Earth Soil Test Lead, Metal Welding, General Construction

05 INTERNSHIP SELECTED WORKS

PROFESSIONAL WORK - GASTINGERWALKER&, GLMV ARCHITECTURE

These reflect a small sample of some of the work I did in my internship experiences.

I was fortunate enough to have great mentors and an overall great work experience in my internships during school. I worked in various markets such as medical facilities, entertainment, education, and restaurant work, as well experience various phases of a project. From programming, to basic construction documentation, to learning BIM modeling and presentation renders, my mentors made sure to expose me to a variety of work so that I may continue to grow in my career.
