odule ne HOW TO DRAW A CROISSANT

MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT

Croissant is not straight.

Therefore in meansuring of croissant, we need to concern that the croissant is at the same position, or the length and width would not match each other. Accuracy is very important in next stages, neither does tracing or the axonometric system build up, they both require an extent of accuracy.

TRACING & DRAWING OF A CROISSANT

T

he illustrations of these croissants are based on the photos of croissants, which give us understanding of representation of depth; the deeper sections would be dimmer. And section drawings are also used to build an axonometric model of our own croissant.

Module Two Flatness vs. Projection

NEW MARIO WORLD

World: 16-3 Dike Wang, 988029

The making of new Mario world. During this module, we are required by using drawing skill, illustrator skill to build up an mario world from two-dimentional pictures.

The understanding of axonometric is very important, how does different shapes projecting in this new world was a hard thing to explore. And to build a good module work, I believe the understanding of colour theory is vital as well.

T

hese are products from hand drawing stage. Maybe directly drawing by illustrator would be more convenient, but hand drawing can always simulate our own ideas bestly, in the other hand, this is a chance to introduce students how to trace objetcs in illustrator.

7

Because of there are two many objects in the world, therefore drawing some small objects indivisually can ensure the quality of tiny characters.

PAPER LANDSCAPE

T

he making of new landscape Depending on the terrain model, this module requires using rhino to build a landscape model with panel tool. The most time-consuming part is paper model makeing, requries a lot of patience and tricks, therefore the decision between complexity of model and time is very essential.

Panel making stage. A visual representation of my terrain.

First two modules. Generally 5 modules in the panelling are trying to represent a progression of flower bossom; and these two indent shape modules are simulating young bud,

Third module. Imagining the process between a bud and a full blossom stage, and this is where between.

Tflower he surface is not plain, to fit with the the terrain surface; in the one hand that process of blossom is staring from the lowest point to the highest point, and in the other hand this model followed a wave period from the diagonal line to the edges.

Forth and fifth modules. Using rectagular shape to represent the full blossom of flower, it is hard to decied a plan containing enough complexity to represent the shape of flower and also the doable unrolled surfaces.

REFLECTION After one semester’s effort, I found myself have deeper understanding of design, including design itself, terms of terminology, and different skills to applying on my ideas. Before this course, I believed that design means to be represent something to audience, and now my mind isn’t changed, but I could think about it by different perspectives, from the theory of perspective pyramid to Marco Polo’s journey. During four modules’ working, we are asked to achieve the targets by different tecnichs. Hand drawing, 2-D software, 3-D software. So I think a major purpose of this course must be introducing these various technologies, because these are essential skills for further developing in design field. I found the skill of learning new software is important during this course, it decided the time you could use on design work, and efficiency of transporting ideas into real works. Beside the module works themselves, I think the most important thing is an overall controlling and understanding of each assignment. Including the time arrangement, key features required, even psychological pressure. For example in the module three work, I have spend over forty hours on model making, but the result of presentation is not as good as I expected. By thinking back, the better strategy could be designing a less complex model, spending more time on learning an efficient way, or arrange the time properly to get myself relax enough to finish the presentation. Module two completely showed how important does proper tecnique can be; If I have leanrt the existing of “live painting tool“, it would save hours of time for me, but I didn’t, then coloured the whole painting in a silly and time-consuming way. This has really tought me to learn things further, espeicailly in software.
