Bath’s Parks & Gardens

The Talk-Walk-Talk iniave is a joint venture organised by members of the RPS Landscape and Digital Imaging Groups.

The Spring 2025 theme was ‘Parks & Gardens’. The opening on-line talk was by Molly Hollman. Further informaon can be found at www.talkwalktalk.org

This lile photobook includes images from the eight photographers that aended the walk around Bath’s Parks & Gardens on the 28th of April.

The day started in Sydney Gardens, followed by Henriea Park and Parade Gardens. Aer lunch we strolled through Victoria Park to visit the Botanical Gardens and the Great Dell.

Images from the walk were reviewed and discussed at the follow-up meeng held at RPS House in Bristol on the 8th of May.

At that meeng, the image opposite, ‘Forget Me Not’ by Helen Sheppard ARPS, was selected to represent our walk in the naonal Talk Walk Talk gallery and eZine.

The images collated here have been selected to show what the parks and gardens of Bath have to offer. They also illustrate how different photographers in the same places, at the same me, can see the same subject maer in very different ways.

We hope you enjoy seeing the images as much as we enjoyed making them.

A very enjoyable way to spend a day in the lovely parks and gardens of the beautiful city of Bath in the company of a great bunch of photographers.

Many diverse locations and opportunities to stimulate the thought processes into capturing a variety of images.

I have chosen my 3 final images to reflect that variety.

Great to have a follow up session where we shared each other’s interpretations of the day, and a chance to receive feedback from a different set of eyes.

The TWT Parks & Gardens day gave me the opportunity to experience areas of Bath that I had not visited before and possibly wouldn’t have discovered by myself.

It is always interesting to visit new places and see what photographic opportunities and ideas develop. Sometimes they result in universally appealing images like the squirrel, but at other times the images are more challenging to create, such as the iconic new building at the rear of the Holborn museum. It has unusual features in the glass facade, their characteristics are important and need to be given more respect than just a record shot.

Living in Bath for over 30 years, I have to confess to taking its beauty for granted. Taking these walks around the city always makes me look again and appreciate what it has to offer.

The parks and gardens provide a diverse range of environments and I made some images that I would probably not have made without the impetus provided by the Talk Walk Talk project. Spending the day with like-minded folk, making images was a joy.

A wonderful day out in Bath visiting parks and gardens in the company of fellow photographers.

The parks all had their own unique beauty and character providing a good opportunity to experiment with different photographic techniques and subjects.I selected images to give a flavour of the day: from people relaxing in the gardens, to the beautiful flowers and the tranquil setting of the botanical pond.

My aim in submitting my three images was to illustrate different photographic approaches to the theme Parks and Gardens.

Blue bells uses multi exposure technique to capture the essence and movement of a single flower.

Dutch men trousers is a close up image, focusing on the fine details and form of these distinctive blooms.
