David Haynes. Walled Garden - Stourhead

This T-W-T walk took place in bright sunshine initially, giving many opportunities for interesting compositions. Taking the route from the car park towards Stourhead House, the walled courtyard garden presented many interesting vistas, but the most interesting one was the flower pot immediately in front of an espalier which tickled my sense of humour. From there, and moving through other outbuildings, I visited the stableyard, where a realistic wicker-work statue of a horse attracted me. I tried shooting it from different positions, but eventually chose a distant view.

The front of the house and later its rear were added to the collection of shots that I made, but unfortunately the lighting changed and walking down the path to the lake it became very dull. Nevertheless there were more excellent vistas, which with stronger lighting would have made punchier images. However I still managed to shoot about a dozen images that I am happy with. Overall I found this T-W-T walk inspiring, the weather was brilliant, and I’d like to thank the walk leader and her deputy for arranging such an interesting walk.

The Lady in the Grotto

I would like to thank Western Region and the RPS Landscape Group (and DIG) for organising the TWT initiatives. A wonderful way to discover new places of photographic interest and to share photographic expertise with many other experts and enthusiasts.

Sue Truby. The Bridge From the Grotto at Stourhead.

This was my first visit to Stourhead and I wasn’t disappointed! What fabulous grounds. Although it was very dark inside The Grotto, I was able to use the rocks to frame the view across the lake to the bridge.

Sue Truby. Robot Lawnmower in the Gardens at Stourhead.

After a long day walking round the lake I ended up walking down the drive from the House and spotted over a hedge this robot lawnmower doing its thing. Nice spot of colour complementing the purples against the wall.
