A Walk along the Royal Military Canal Seabrook to West Hythe Kent
On Tuesday October 28th 2025

The Royal Military Canal was built between 1804 and 1809 as a defensive barrier against a possible invasion by Napoleon’s troops during the Napoleonic Wars, forming a key part of Britain’s coastal defences from Seabrook to Hastings in southeast England. But now a lovely walk in nature, for fishing and canoes, paddle boards and rowing boats.
We enjoyed a long walk to West Hythe and back on a beautiful sunny day with blue skies, sunshine and a brisk wind. The walk skirted the canal and we enjoyed glimpses of varied birdlife including several kingfishers fishing as we walked along.
