WEIMAR’S HOTSPOT - WHISTLING DUCK VINYARDS & WINERY
WWIMAR’S HOTSPOT
“We have a brand-new tasting room,” shared John. “There’s a lot more indoor seating with a very nice view of the vineyard and massive fans to keep everyone nice and cool. We’ve also taken our original tasting room and turned that into indoor seating for those who prefer air conditioning.”
With the future always in mind, John already has plans for even more expansion in the near future.
“So, surprise! When we opened the new building Memorial Day weekend, people commented that we probably didn’t build it big enough,” laughed John. “We’re seeing that now. We have plans for an additional covered area, canopies, and extending the roofline of the new tasting room to allow for more covered seating. We’re always adapting for our guests.”
And although it’s the outstanding wine that keeps guests coming back, it’s also the consistent flow of entertainment that they find at The Duck, an affectionate moniker given by their fans.
“We do have live music every Saturday,” said John. “We try to book a variety of musicians. Some have become fan favorites, but we try not to repeat a band for two to three months. We also have First Friday where we do live music and we’ve started adding music on special weekends, as well. We have certain food events. Every Thursday is Pizza Night and we’ve started a new event called Triple D at The Duck. It’s dinner, dancing and drinks, and we’re looking to do that quarterly. We want it to be a nice date night for folks. We’re also bringing back Dining in the Vines, an annual event that sells out fast.”
Whistling Duck offers several delicious appetizer and meal selections from their kitchen and frequently offers different selections, including visits from popular food trucks. Guests are also welcome to amble down to the pond for a glimpse of some wildlife or fragrant wildflowers, sit under the large oak trees dotting the property, or take a stroll through the vineyard to witness where their wine began. And don’t think you have to leave the family at home.
“Remaining kid and pet friendly is important to us,” said John. “One of our goals is that we want people to feel like part of our family. We welcome kids to roam around a little bit and even allow them to bring their fishing poles and fish in our stocked pond. Parents can watch from the porches, with a glass of wine in hand, while they are fishing. We want everyone to sit back, relax and enjoy the laid-back and fun atmosphere of this little piece of the Texas countryside.”
Whistling Duck Vineyards and Winery is located at 1211 County Road 273 and online at www.whistlingduckwinery.com.
