As a small business owner, I know too well the strain this year has put on our business, even though we are considered essential. Learning new ways of sharing documents, holding meetings, communicating and Linda Bullwinkle, MBA, EA documenting in a Owner, Financial Fitness virtual world is not easy when pencil, paper and face to face are preferred. I know I feel tired; I do not want to live with Zoom (major decorating and appearance changes will be necessary), and I want the world as I knew it. That world has become the new – good old days! The most vulnerable small businesses have struggled to arrange short-term funding, while Federal government stimulus programs have offered some relief. The response has been swift, but the ‘process’ changed daily and the information more often.

As I look back to March, I am amazed at the many applications we submitted for our clients and how the applications evolved from impossible to straightforward over a thirty-day period. We became experts overnight in SBA and PPP and Denton Open 1 and 2. We have worked with a multitude of banks and lenders, all with different requirements and expectations. We knew our clients needed support and information, assistance and guidance. I’m proud of our fi rm for our ability to ‘pivot’ (yes, I learned a new use for an old word) and work around the clock to meet deadlines, learn a new process, fi gure out different requirements and help our clients receive some funding they sorely needed. We are still doing this today. I want every business to survive and be solvent for the sake of our community, not just the business. I believe this is our new world and our new focus. Yes, we will continue to prepare tax returns for individuals, businesses, estates, trusts, nonprofi ts and partnerships. Focusing only on taxes will not help our clients. Focusing on their ability to budget, plan, manage and make decisions, whether in their personal life or

business, will help our clients reach their goals. Finding and offering solutions will help our clients succeed. The better we handle our new normal, the more we can help pull everyone we work with along. This is my commitment; we are here to help our community succeed. As we enter the Fall with a changed ‘Back to School’ concept, we should all remember that we are going to need to be patient and help each other. It has not been easy, it is not going to be easy, but a bit of kindness and understanding will go a long way to help someone else. Our schools and teachers, parents and children will have a lot of adjusting. If we all work together, we might just fi nd a new way to succeed to create the best solutions for our community and ourselves. This Fall, support your local

GOLF CARTS: ARE PROPERLY COVERED?

By Brad Kiesling Farmers Insurance

YOU

The safety of golf carts continues to be a hot topic in many local neighborhoods.

Golf carts today are larger, more powerful and used for purposes other than golfi ng. Undeniably, this brings a greater likelihood of a serious accident. According to recent statistics, golf cart accidents have more than doubled over the past 20 years with a large proportion of these accidents involving children under the age of 18. Approximately 40% of accidents involve a person falling out of the cart, 10% involve rollovers, and roughly 15,000 injuries per year require emergency care.

It is a common misconception that an individual’s homeowners or auto insurance policy will provide adequate coverage. While it is true that there might be some coverage provided under a homeowner’s policy, this coverage varies depending on the insurance company. The coverage is likely to be basic, and any claim could affect the cost of your policy at renewal.

A separate policy that covers your golf cart is very inexpensive, generally around $250 a year. Our agency can customize a policy that meets your specifi c needs. Types of coverages include liability in case someone is injured, property damage, medical payments, uninsured motorist and collision and comprehensive to help pay for cart repairs.

Proper insurance coverage is more important than ever. Will you be protected in the event your golf cart is involved in an accident? If you’re unsure about your current golf cart coverage, we welcome you to stop by our agency or give us a call for a complimentary policy review. We have experienced agents “who have seen a thing or two” and are here in the neighborhood to help protect what is important to you and your family. ...
