It’s A Good Life
As you looked at the cover of the Front Porch Magazine this edition, you, as a long time resident of the area, may have thought that you didn’t know these people. And, the truth is that you most likely do not know them. The Sawyers are new to the Caldwell, Texas, area, and we are happy to give this new family an opportunity to be seen, and to become involved in our fair city.
Kendall Sawyers and Lauren Renz-Sawyers found the home they wanted on County Road 324 in April, 2021, after a year of searching for land with a home for their family of five, including two children, Brody Bellg 13, a Caldwell Middle School student who participates in band and football, and Jamie Sawyers 5.
The Sawyers both have roots in ranching families, hers from East Texas and Wyoming, and his from the Austin area, so they just wanted to get back to the way of life they love. Kendall trains horses and is enjoying having room to work with them at home while Lauren’s interest has always been in small herd, pasture raised beef. However, the Sawyers quickly add that what really drew them to the Caldwell area is the town itself. They feel it is nice to have a few amenities close by and a school system that seems to care about the students. Both work outside of the home, as well. Kendall is an electrical contractor and owns his own business, Sawyers Electric. He does electrical work for residential and commercial remodels, service calls, and electrical projects for the film industry. Lauren is a landscape architect and works as a freelance designer, currently working on high end restaurants in Houston, Dallas, and Austin.
Their house on CR 324 is a Colonial style brick home built some 10 years ago. The Sawyers really appreciate the thought that was put into the building of the home: the brickwork in the kitchen and the extra room in the master bath make the home so very livable. But, again, what they really love is the land, secluded land with open pasture and forested area.
Of course, their house has a porch. In fact, their porch runs the length of the house and is sheltered by a high roof which they love. Lauren says of their heritages that both of their grandparents started and ended the day with time on the porch, and that they too find that the stresses of the work day are significantly reduced with a little time outside. In their last home, they had a quite small porch but still spent time on it watching the kids play and visiting with neighbors. They are happy to have found a home with a porch where they enjoy watching sunsets and spending time together away from the TV and other distractions. As they look out from their spacious porch, they see their pastures where there is always a cow or two, or a horse, that stops by to say hello and remind them that they could feed them a treat. It’s the good life.
