Elijah DeLeon
Elijah DeLeon is an exemplary young man, student, and athlete. He embodies all that we teach and preach at Harlingen High School, and it is an honor to coach him and call him a Cardinal.
E
lijah is a senior at Harlingen High School in the Top 4% of his class, the Corresponding Secretary for the PTSA, and the Historian for the National Honor Society. He is the son of Rey and Delilah DeLeon, both former graduates of Harlingen High School. He is a three-year starter on the varsity football team where he is a team captain, and he is also a sprinter on the varsity track team. At Harlingen High School, I try to emphasize the importance of an education and being a good person, good student, and good athlete. Elijah certainly embodies all of that. He is the son of our varsity defensive line coach Rey DeLeon, whom was also the team captain his senior year for Harlingen High. As a matter of fact, Rey and Elijah are the fifth set of fathers and sons to have enjoyed a coach / athlete relationship while playing here. all shared the field as family, and all of their sons have gone on to graduate from college. Strong family bonds are stressed here, and Elijah was also able to learn from those relationships as he was a ball boy while the other coaches’ sons played for us. Elijah is respectful and courteous. He is trusted by our administration and is often counted on to assist with academic meets and with club activities. As head coach, I have entrusted Elijah with our team. His presence and dedication in the weight room inspires his teammates, especially the younger athletes, and his 4.16 GPA certainly speaks of his academic commitment and adherence to our mantra of competing at a high level. Elijah has worked very hard for all he has accomplished and he epitomizes all that we promote at Harlingen High School.
