Mariska has lived since 2003 in Tamil Nadu, South India, her paintings celebrate the Earth- and Nature-Goddesses, their immense, healing energies. The Earthand Nature-Goddesses, especially the Neem Tree Goddesses, are my great inspirations for my artworks. Indeed, we paint together. Before creating an artwork, I start with a ritual. Sitting on the Earth, embracing a Neem Tree, dancing with the Stars and the Moon to the rhythm of the heartbeat of the Earth, moving and dancing with flowing waters of the Rain Goddess and Ocean Goddess, my ritual dance can take many forms... The energies start flowing and circulating inside me, finally manifesting them as paintings. Every painting represents a particular moment, a sacred space of the Earth- and Nature-Goddesses, representing specific healing energies.

Each painting invites a magical visual meditation adventure of transformation and healing.

Further, my artworks also visualise a world where everybody respects, honours and venerates the Earth- and Nature-Goddesses, Mother Earth and Nature – the source of all life.

For my artworks, I only use self-made natural colours and, as a varnish, selfmade organic beeswax varnish.

My solo and group exhibitions took place in India, France, Italy, Great Britain, Australia, the USA, Japan, Finland, Germany and Canada and I continue organising art exhibitions all over the world.

DSC How did the current situation affect your work?

End of 2019, I was already planning my art exhibition tour for 2020. I had already organised exhibitions in France in promising locations with an exhibition opening and a live painting performance.

With the never-ending lockdowns and travel restrictions, I had to search for another possibility to exhibit my art and I started to organise online art exhibitions in a 3D gallery. Further, I opened additional social media accounts on Twitter and Instagram for promoting my artworks.

It seems that the organisation of offlineexhibitions has become tougher as many locations still fear sudden lockdowns.

Nevertheless, I started planning my art exhibition tour for 2022. It will not be an option to continue with lockdowns. Art exhibitions are essential, although they had been listed as non essential. Art is nurturing the spirit and soul.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Can you talk about your ideas and how they evolve?

My great inspirations are the Earth- and Nature-Goddesses, especially the Neem Tree-Goddesses. As I mentioned before, indeed, we paint together. I am grateful for the never-ending flow of inspirations and ideas they give me. The idea behind every painting is a particular moment of inspiration. It can be different for every artwork. For example, a Crow Goddess appearing and the special light of the Full Moon Goddess are an inspiration and give me the idea to create a painting which symbolises their special energies and invites the viewer to a visual meditation adventure. Most of my paintings I explain in detail. Therefore, interested viewers will always get the information on the inspiration and idea behind a painting. To summarise it, every of my artworks is a celebration of and meditation on the powerful, healing energies of the Earthand Nature-Goddesses.

Every artist or creative person has their own process. Where does the process begin for you?

Creating an artwork is like a ritual for me; therefore, you will discover many of my youtube videos with titles like Full Moon Painting Ritual. Every Full Moon I perform a special Painting Ritual which celebrates the particular energies of a Full Moon Night. However, every creation of an artwork is a ritual and is always connected to the energies of the Moon Goddess, the Earth and Nature Goddesses, the Neem Tree Goddesses.

Before painting, I start with a meditation which can have many different forms like sitting on the earth, visiting a cave, embracing a tree, swimming in the ocean, looking at the stars and the moon... The energies of Earth and Nature start flowing inside me, manifesting them in a spontaneous dance, continuing circulating and manifesting them finally as an artwork. Therefore, I say that actually, I paint together with the Earth and NatureGoddesses.

For my artworks, I only use self-made natural colours and even the making of my colours I consider as ritual. It is part of the alchemistic process.

Can you give us a spoiler on what is coming next for you?

At the moment, I am preparing several new artworks for my online 3d art exhibitions. They will be announced on my social media channels, so stay tuned!

Further, I am planning my offline art exhibitions for 2022. Additionally, I am writing a book about my adventures as a travelling artist which I will publish next year. Last but not least, I am working on an oracle with my artworks.

Can you tell us more about your theme and what is your artwork exploring underneath everything?

What kind of impact do you hope that your work has? Aside from the message, is it enough that your art is just beautiful?

Through my paintings the viewers are invited to experience an exciting visual meditation adventure which can take a different form everyday. Some collectors of my art told me that they find it really interesting that even after years, they still discover something new in the particular artwork they have chosen. Further, my artworks are meant to talk about the rediscovery of the connection to Mother Earth and Nature, their healing, and powerful energies. Last but not least, all of my artworks are a visualisation of a world where everybody venerates, honours and respects the Earth- and Nature-Goddesses - Mother Earth and Nature – the source of all life!

Concerning your question concerning the beautiful aspect – I cannot see my art solely as a beautiful decoration object as the whole creation of the artworks is based on my eco-spiritual journey embracing the sacred Earth- and Nature Goddesses. Every artwork has a deeper, spiritual meaning and that is the beauty of my paintings.

Every of my artworks symbolises and celebrates the powerful, healing energies of the Earth- and Nature-Goddesses. Every painting is part of my eco-spiritual journey – embracing the sacred Earth- and Nature-Goddesses. It is an eternal, cyclic dance which takes many different forms.

Every painting has a special message and invites the viewer to a magickal visual meditation adventure. The artwork shall help the viewer to step on an alchemistic path of transformation and healing. As every painting represents different healing energies. I always tell the viewers to work with the artwork they feel spontaneously attracted to, as it has several secret messages for them if they are willing to take the time for a transforming, healing visual meditation adventure.

Nora Lebbos, artist name – Nor –, is a 41year-old Franco Lebanese visual artist and writer based in Lebanon. She’s a selftaught visual artist and lives as a fully freelance artist.

She draws and paints like she tells stories.

Shapes come to life through her as if they were characters in a story. She doesn't follow any specific technique except her intuition and a strong trust in her lines.

She likes artwork which tells a message, a story. She also trusts Art as a spiritual awakening.

Her artwork has been noticed by the No Name collective gallery (part of the collective 20) and the Holy Art gallery for a collective exhibition in London in June 2021.

This project is dedicated to Lebanon, to its revolution, its fight for independence, freedom, and justice. Through drawing and painting, through words, I had shaped this memory.

First the 2019 October Revolution in Marty’s square, where a giant has been born; people on the streets, in a blink of an eye, all has shifted.

‘This is not pink: The Beirut August 2020 blast, the explosion was a giant pink cloud in the sky, but really nothing was pink, all was and is still a chaos, sad and criminal.

Mountains and sea symbolize the splendid Nature of this country, its cedars, rocks, valleys, rivers, flowers, animals; they are the true inhabitants of this soil and the first victims of Men's rapacity and ignorance.

The departure figures the exodus of people leaving their roots.

Finally, 5, is my numerology number. I wanted to express a kind of 'me as a child' abstraction. Buildings and signs of freedom near the head of the character, a metaphor of living in a city with this imaginative and creative intern voice represented by the character playing on a swing.

You grew up in France — how did you end up in Lebanon?

How did the current situation affect your work?

I was born in Ivory Coast, grew up and lived in France and I’m set up now in Lebanon. I chose to come back to Lebanon four years ago, because I knew that if I didn’t know my roots, I would regret it deeply. My instinct doesn’t lie, so I came.

And I stay.

There are numerous challenges worldwide for artists, more in a country like Lebanon.

Despite the huge difficulty/impossibility for artists here to find supplies at a fair price or simply because resellers can’t even buy it themselves and the challenge of finding a peaceful environment to create; collaboration, new ways to create are in the making. My work is therefore impacted, in its thematic but also in the materials I choose.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and what drove you to choose art as a career?

My professional life is quite diverse. I was a lawyer in Paris, during this time I learned Chinese mandarin and decided to work in the humanitarian field in China, I lived in a Chinese remote area for four years, then I came to Lebanon, where I was working in the humanitarian field till April 2021.

I had always lived my professional life as a duality: working in the system by day, working my passion by evening; I wrote novels, poems and did visual creations. I decided to quit my job, despite the current context and just be what I feel I am: a narrative and visual storyteller. This decision caused surprise among many people, but more than choosing art as a career, I choose sincerity in my way of living. I am not afraid of transformations and go as my inner self feels. For me art is not a career, it’s an evolving process of transformation. A magical and powerful ritual.

What kind of impact do you hope that your work has? Aside from the message, is it enough that your art is just beautiful?

If my artwork has an impact, I would like it to offer a journey in the imagination of the observer. The story behind the shapes always stays with the observer. Like a brilliant book, or a memorable movie.

“Beauty will save the world” (quote by Dostoevsky). I believe in this statement. To me, Beauty is not only aesthetic but also a dimension, a depth. It has its message within itself. So, it would be more than enough that my artwork is considered beautiful and doesn’t have any other specific message. Beauty is a grace.

THE DEPARTURE What does freedom mean when it comes to art?

Can you give us a spoiler on what is coming next for you?

In the coming months, my first selfpublished novel will come out and a book of poems together with my visual artworks. I aim to present my artwork to galleries, hopefully, to have my first physical exhibition. an you tell us more about your theme and what is your artwork exploring underneath everything?

Some of the artworks displayed were an expression of the events in Lebanon, the October 2019 Revolution in Lebanon to the August 2020 criminal explosion. All were done in a kind of fulgurant act. This kind of “organic” creation is my way of expression. Brut and direct. I think that my artworks are done like I tell stories, underneath all I try to express an abstract shape of reality and other invisible realms.

UK Based Illustrator, Rizzy Khatun is an attentive artist whose illustrations speak for her. Her field of study is digital sketching/illustration where she delivers a story/cryptic message with every piece she creates.

Her illustrations radiate dream-like visions and a fantasy-themed outlook with a deep emotional meaning behind them mostly focusing on terms such as self-love and depression.

Her main objective with her illustrations is for the viewer to feel connected and somehow relate to the piece. Every illustration is very much crafted with creativity, soul, and a little part of herself in them.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and what drove you to choose art as a career?

I'd describe myself as a spiritual and carefree individual with a good work ethic when it comes to my career. I'm a perfectionist and goal oriented and always strive to improve myself in every aspect of my life. Art has played a huge role in my life since the age of 6 and has been therapy in other words. Art and drawing was basically an escape from my trauma and struggles as a kid and slowly it morphed into something which made me happy. I've come to the realisation that I wanted this happiness to last which meant art would not only be a hobby but a hustle as well.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

I would encourage my younger self a lot more. When I was younger I'd always doubt myself and my love for art. I'd constantly have the worry of never making it or being good enough. I've realised that my artwork is a visual representation of my identity without me having to speak for myself and that's what makes my illustrations unique. I don't have to be the best to succeed. I should just continue illustrating and enjoy it. I shouldn't let people bring me down and make me second guess my passion. That's what I'd say to my younger self.

What kind of impact do you hope that your work has? Aside from the message, is it enough that your art just is beautiful?

My artwork is based around my personal life and struggles and is centred around the themes of magic, mystery, love and fantasy. I want people to view my artwork and feel a connection. I want every viewer to feel something different. Yes, I perfect my artwork to the point where I want it to be absolutely stunning but the meaning behind every piece is very important to me. Personally, the message is just as important as the actual art piece itself.

The meaning makes it more beautiful.

Since you have a certain theme on your project, would you like to tell us how you came with this amazing idea and what do you wanted to tell with this project?

My very first professional art piece is called Sea of Thoughts. This piece was a turning point in my career. It's the piece where my art style really came to life and has helped me create a sort of brand.

Sea of Thoughts is about depression specifically about my mental struggles with depression. The illustration is about drowning in your own mind and existing in an endless cycle of sadness. Somewhat learning to cope you seek light and try to find the beauty in the darkness.

The girl in the illustration is representing me in a body of water surrounded by darkness which is being lit by the beauty of the sea, the coral and the little fish. This piece was heavily inspired by fantasy which is one of the themes my illustrations are centred around.

What do you like most about being an artist?

I love expressing myself. Being an introvert I do have trouble expressing myself visually at times but with my artwork, I can express myself however I want. I enjoy the journey of my illustrations more than the finished piece and being able to draw as a hobby and as a professional is possibly one of the main reasons why I love being an artist.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Can you talk about your ideas and how they evolve?

I get most of my inspiration from quotes and movies I watch. I love creating artwork centred around a particular word or phrase, a feeling, mental health struggles, love and romance and sometimes space. I'll hear the word "Ethereal" and I'll illustrate something which radiates that word. I'll combine that word with a particular theme which might be love or mystery and just start creating.

I evolve the illustration as I'm drawing it and see what works best.

Do you have any long-term goals as an artist?

One of my long-term goals is to create an illustrated book on a story that will be about my life but some areas would be fabricated. I'm currently working on crafting my art style to the very best so when I finally start this illustrated book, the illustrations would be my best work.

This is one of my life-long dreams to achieve within my career.

WANG LING-LI

Wang Ling-Li is a non-traditional Taiwanese artist who creates surrealistic and abstract yet simple pieces using ballpoint pens, rollerball pens, drawing pads and lots of passion.

The images tell the stories about her life, her gains, her pains, her hopes and her fears. “Creation is a way for me to talk to myself.” says Wang.

Her art is not only a reflection of the changes in her life, but also a power that gives her strength to face life’s challenges.

“I created, then I grew.” says Wang, “I appreciate that I’ve learned how to draw.

When I draw, I question. I question back, I answer, I seek, then I break through.”

Every artist or creative person has their own process. Where does the process begin for you?

Being an artist was not an ambition I had in my mind when I was little, rather it has been a transforming procedure throughout my life… Due to my high school studies, which were focused on technology and science, I am very sensitive to details. And after going through different working experiences my mind and perspective were broadened. A feeling of not fitting into the conventional Taiwanese society has made me want to explore and emerge with other free-thinking cultures.

Around 2000 I established an aromatherapy shop and met my mentor Sha, and step by step with his guidance I have found my true interest in life, art.

Do you remember the earliest memory of when you wanted to do what you do today?

At the beginning of learning drawing the emphasis was on basic drawing and trying different mediums, later while using more creative ways to practice is when my perspective on the world started to change.

One day, suddenly I felt something, so I picked up my pencil and in a daze, unconsciously but consciously, my pen danced across the paper, floating creatures and objects surrounded me. As my thoughts became clear once again, the sky had turned from bright morning to mysterious dusk. Tons of pieces lay around me and I felt both fear and excitement toward the day's creations. After my mentor heard about my experience, he simply and calmly said “this is the rebirth of a new lifetime”.

During Sha’s Class, we used different ideas to create, for example drawing the temperature or our own name…

I LOVE HOW EDGELESS THE UNIVERSE IS. I LOVE HOW CREATURES LOOK DIFFERENT IN THE DEEP SEA. IN MY DRAWINGS, I SEE THE ORIGIN OF LIFE. I’VE SUNG MONGOLIAN MELODIES AND SEEN CREATURES IN MY PIECES FLOATING AROUND ME, LATER I REALIZE, I HAVE A BEAUTIFUL SPACE FOR MYSELF.

Is it possible for you to separate your work from your life?

What are you working on at the moment?

For me, work and life usually are two sides of a coin, they cannot be separated from one another. Quarrels from the outside world will affect the calmness of my mind, which makes me hesitate and disturbs my creative procedure. Although I would like to separate them, it is simply very difficult, however, it has become a kind of training and a challenge to overcome in my life.

I know it’s extremely difficult for people to have art as a career without resources and support. Since I am fortunate to have resources, and have the chance to help cultivate more talented artists, it has become my next dedication in life. Therefore I plan to establish an artspace in Taichung City next year, and I invite you all to visit it when it is finished. I hope it will also provide chances of cooperation and exchange between artists, organisations and cultures.

What does freedom mean when it comes to art?

Freedom is me, I am freedom, I have never limited my possibility to develop or my curiosity toward everything. I observe and seek knowledge in different areas. I’m extremely obsessed with new things and love to take on challenges. I believe, under restriction, in this case, tradition, I’m not able to become who I am.

Camille is influenced by the classics, dramatics, and religious paintings of art history. He is creating new senses from what already exists in those periods, and reusing pictorial codes to reinterpret them. By using a modern eye, he proposes a very sarcastic and ridiculous vision of what was considered sacred, by using contemporary techniques.

This can be the merging of different pieces from different artists, or simply adding a few details that can change the whole meaning of the piece.

He is working with airbrush painting, spray paint, metal paintings. His current series of paintings, intend to propose new modern stories from religious and classical painting. The paintings become multi-material and provocative icons.

What kind of impact do you hope that your work has? Aside from the message, is it enough that your art is just beautiful?

When I start creating a new painting, I am always looking for something that makes me feel good, a subject that can make me laugh. If I have a doubt, I am going to continue to think and try other things until I have a good feeling about the idea.

I want my work to be able to bring emotion to people, a laugh, to make them think also, with the duality between the classical characters I am using and more modern elements that I mix it with. Of course, I want to create something that is visually beautiful (which already depends on the tastes of the viewer!), but I also want to create something that makes sense.

Every artist or creative person has their process. Where does the process begin for you?

It just never stops. I am always thinking about my work, what I could do, and what is next. I look a lot at art history and social media such as Instagram. I have a vast picture bank on my phone, where I register everything that brings me inspiration. This is primarily classical art, religious art, but it can also be more modern.

I browse a lot there and try to look at what is inspiring me instantly, what feeling this painting can give me, the colours of the one, the gesture of this portrait etc.

Mostly, the ideas come naturally in my head, and I start to draw them to make it all clear and pick what I think is worth more working on.

What is more important for art, the idea, or the execution?

I think that both are important. I am a figurative painter, and execution is essential to me. I am a very perfectionist and rarely pleased with what I do. Once a painting is done, I need to go to the next idea and do it even better.

However, this is the same for the idea. I am always trying to represent something that has a minimum of sense. I can not start a painting if I think the idea is good enough.

What is your primary mode for selling original work?

Mostly galleries. Of course, all my work is also presented directly on my Instagram (camille_theodet.art), and anyone can always send me a private message to have more information about my pricing.

I am also planning to create a website soon with a shop possibility.

Where can we view your work?

I am currently represented by the gallerist Heike Arndt, who owns a gallery in Berlin and Kettinge, Denmark. Some of my work is currently in Denmark, and you can also always go to their website and even purchase.

I will also have a group exhibition in LiTEHAUS Gallery in Berlin during December 2021 / January 2022.

-What are you working on at the moment?

I am working on a new series of paintings that are only portraits and smaller formats than I was used to. This series is based on classical portraits, wearing BDSM masks inspired by animals.

I call this series Ménagerie, and it is still ongoing.

Which artists/ professional photographers have influenced your work, and how do you incorporate their technique into your paintings/ photographs?

I have a considerable interest in religious art, in any period, in any form. This is almost an obsession. I can not stop myself from looking into it, trying to understand it, but mostly, just looking at it in a very different way, most of the time twisted.

I have a lot of classical references, but I would say that the most important to me are Boucher, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres etc.

I paint the same way an oil painting would, but I am using more modern techniques with the airbrush.

I am also significantly influenced by street art, erotic art, and the fetish scenes of Berlin. Berlin itself has been an enormous influence on my work, and BDSM is a never-ending source of inspiration, from the clothes to the spirit, to the practice, to even the psychological meanings that can be behind it sometimes.

AURELIJA PESTENE

Aurelija Pestene is a Lithuanian artist currently living in Denmark. She graduated from Vilnius College of Design with a degree in Applied Photography.

Afterwards, she worked many different, non-creative jobs until she moved to Denmark where, after not having touched her camera for more than two years, one day something changed and creativity struck again, which was the start of the ongoing project "On the Dot ".

"The" On the Dot series itself is about time, about how fast it can fly, how everything can change or become a blur in just a second, and all that is left are memories: the tiny colourful dots in all that time change.

You grew up in Lithuania – how did you end up in Denmark?

I grew up, finished high school and college in Lithuania, back there since I was a teenager, I always dreamed that I would be a famous photographer with her own tiny workshop/photo studio in the middle of the old town Vilnius. However, of course, that did not happen, after finishing high school, I got into Vilnius college of design – applied photography studies, which I enjoyed with all my heart. Unfortunately, after graduating, I could not get a job or clients as a photographer, especially a fashion photographer, which I wanted back then.

So, after a few years of struggles, my husband, our close friends and I went for a few days to Copenhagen for vacation, I remember when we (my husband and I) were standing outside the hotel after a day of walking around the city and talking, that if we ever leave Lithuania for good, this would be the country we leave to. It took about half a year more, but after that, Denmark became our destination point which we successfully reached.

Every artist or creative person has their process. Where does the process begin for you?

What is more important for art, the idea or the execution?

First, I go out into different locations to take a picture; sometimes it is in the woods, sometimes it is a Zoo Park, and sometimes just a backyard with people in it. I take a million shots, which makes it hard to choose them afterwards since not even one shot is ever the same; they are all very different depending on how I move the camera. Nevertheless, after choosing them and making a print of selected pictures, I do not choose the colours for dotting according to the pictures. First, the colours pop into my head, the right mix between two of them and only then do I choose the picture that I think the chosen colours would look best.

In my opinion, the idea is much more important than the execution. I believe that anyone can master a specific field, the particular technique of art, but if it does not have an interesting/valuable idea, then that art becomes more of a craft. It becomes a kind of like a colouring book – you colour someone's already made drawing. Does it make you – the one who colours the drawing – an artist? Or does it make a person that came with the idea of that drawing itself an artist?

Since you have a specific theme on your project, would you like to tell us how you came up with this fantastic idea and what you wanted to tell with this project?

Honestly, the photography style itself was kind of an accident when I pressed the wrong setting on my camera while taking a picture at home through the window.

However, I saw that this could be something interesting, and I started to play more with it because I loved the motion in the picture. I loved how there was nothing in it, and at the same time, there were so many things. It reminded me of the time flow, how everything can change or become a blur in just a second.

Nevertheless, of course, for me, something was missing, I needed something that would catch an eye, something that would represent memories in that time flow, something bright and colourful and not just a grey abstract mess.

I remember I was driving to work and listening to a podcast from 'the jealous curator' for weeks, and this image of many small colourful dots was popping in my head, and that was when I realized that this is what is missing in my pictures, this is what can bind everything together.

What do you like most about being an artist?

That you can be free, you do not have to commit to one area, one style, one technique. You do not have to sit in an office from 9:00-17:00 Monday to Friday unless you want it. You can express your emotions, feelings, and thoughts through your art. What I do relax me, calms me down, and lets me put my emotions on paper. I believe that most of my pictures can represent how I was feeling that day, you can see it in the colours – if they are calm and monotonic or bright and colourful with much contrast and I am not sure how I would act or express everything if I would not have art in my life.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Do not give up, and do not think your work is not good enough for others to see. For many years I was afraid to show what I was doing, putting it out into digital space and in no way did I ever apply anywhere with my work. If I got enough courage to do it, I would never do it with my real name, and if I saw that nothing was happening, I would give up and stop doing it or at least show it. It seems so silly to think about it now, but it took me a long time to understand it and start owning up to what I do. Furthermore, what can I say, it is so much better now than before with a pile of unfinished work in the corner, thinking that no one will ever be interested in it anyway.

Aleksandar Eftimovski was born in Skopje,North Macedonia on 11.04.1988.

He graduated sculpture and visual arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence to deepen his interests in general sculpture for three years and got his master degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara for a two years program dedicated to stone carving. In the period of his studies, Eftimovski gets several scholarships and acknowledgements, both national and international, including scholarships from the Region and goes to an exchange program for one semester in Facultad de Bellas Artes de Tenerife where he learns many techniques of bronze casting. He has participated in several symposiums for monumental sculpture in stone and in many international group exhibitions.

"Mo(nu)mental Ideas' ' was his first solo exhibition that took place in the gallery Srecisce in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He won an award at the Biennale di San Nicolò Italy, for sculpture in gallery format.

Eftimovski is taking a part in the artistic organization Officina Toast from Carrara for organizing several exhibitions in the area and recently got his membership in the national artistic organization DLUM in North Macedonia.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and what drove you to choose art as a career?

My name is Aleksandar Eftimovski, and I come from North Macedonia. I am an artist who works in the medium of sculpture, particularly abstract and geometrical. To be honest, I got into art accidentally. I never even had the idea that I would be a sculptor.

What made you venture from working in the corporate sector to painting?

I never worked in this medium. It is not that I do not know how this technique works, but as we all know, painting gives you an illusion of the third dimension, and I actually like the third dimension. I like everything that sculpture is - the volumes, the textures, the colours, the composites.

How did the current situation affect your work?

The situation that we all are experiencing did not change anything regarding my artistic expression and creation because I try to spend every moment working on my art pieces in my studio. Practically the flow of ideas never really stopped.

What kind of impact do you hope that your work has? Aside from the message, is it enough that your art is just beautiful?

Art is made to transmit a message, so no art is without a particular story. The rest is only decoration.

Every artist or creative person has their process. Where does the process begin for you?

The starting process for creating one of my sculptural objects begins with a purified idea and a specific concept. The next step is to imagine this idea into the particular material together with its colour and texture of the same. After careful material selection, the process of materialising the idea starts. This lengthy process of materialising an idea is a purifying process that fuses emotion, thoughts, and experience. This results in an artistic expression that is characteristic of the artist. In my expression, I sometimes represent the reflection of my personality. This period of self-exploration results in a spontaneous expression in my abstract forms. Characteristic for my sculptural objects are the smooth surfaces and precise cuts that stand firm and create a particular game of light and dark, which is the main element of threedimensional art.

What is more important for art, the idea, or the execution?

For me, I cannot precisely separate the two. Any art piece is developed by an idea that later gets materialised into stone. The execution is vital to present the idea in the best manner.

Do you remember the earliest memory of when you wanted to do what you do today?

It was about 20 years ago when we first made small sculptures out of soap blocks in elementary school. At that age, the technique, where you diminish volumes to get to a shape that you have imagined, was very intriguing for me.

What is your primary mode for selling original work?

Can you give us a spoiler on what is coming next for you?

Most of the pieces I have sold were exhibited in galleries where spectators could come and view the works in their third dimension.

My next project consists of 5 big-scale sculptures in iron and Corten steel. The shapes of these sculptures will be abstract and geometrical. These sculptures will be positioned in an elementary school so that kids can learn more about art about shapes.

The same objects will be positioned in the Youth Centre in the city I live in, Skopje.

What advice would you give somebody who has just started their artistic career?

I would just tell them to experiment and practice. It is essential to be curious and profound with their exploration.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Can you talk about your ideas and how they evolve?

Most of my ideas come from Nature. It is an infinite source of ideas. By going into the micro world, you can find unseen shapes that can take you to create an art piece. Also interesting for me are Nature's mechanisms and how they function in a perfect balance.

Is it possible for you to separate your work from your life?

I do not consider creating art as my work. I do not have working hours, I develop my ideas in my thoughts, in every single moment. So, practically, creating is my life.

What does freedom mean when it comes to art?

It is all about freedom. An artist is free to do whatever he wants, whenever he wants, in any medium that he wants. The beauty is that no one can push you in the direction you need to go, it is you who decides.

Where can we view your work?

My work can be virtually seen on my webpage, physically in my studio and publicly in more than 20 countries.

How did the "quarantine" affect your art?

It did not affect it, as I was spending most of my time making stone and iron sculptures during the quarantine.

Which artists have influenced your work, and how do you incorporate their technique into your work?

The artists and colleagues that influenced my work are people I meet in person. For example, Itto Kuetani is one of the artists I met in the marble quarry in Carrara, where he had an exhibition of big-scale sculptures in marble extracted from the same quarry.

The shapes that he creates are exquisite and organic, very sensitive. Other sculptors that influenced my work are Miro, Jasuda, Cascella, Cillida.

What do you like most about being an artist?

The unlimited space of expressing myself in the way I want. I like that I can manage my time in a way that fits me the most and that I do not depend on anyone.

Since you have a particular theme on your project, would you like to tell us how you came up with this fantastic idea and what you wanted to tell with this project?

The project X: The project visually represents the letter X from the basic Latin Alphabet but symbolically expresses the explicit, the extravagant and the exclusive. We, the artists, are precisely all of the above. We are the ones who create objects unlike others, unique and particular. The sculpture that I propose has a round shape, which is the symbol of Nature because, in the microworld, all the existing things in Nature have a circular shape. The inner part of this sculptural object, through flat surfaces and straight angles, represent the man-made.

When you see through the perforation, your view of the background becomes the X shape.

What memorable responses have you had so far for your work?

I have received the most exciting responses about my sculptures from children. They interpret my works in unimaginable ways.

They like to touch the sculptures and are curious about how the artworks are made.

How does art-making impact other parts of your life?

It does not have any other impact but is optimistic because creating art is not a profession but a way of life.

Do you have any long-term goals as an artist?

I like to create without knowing where it takes me, but somehow, my goal is to create more than 60 large-scale sculptures worldwide. I have made about 20 sculptures in more than 15 countries and three different continents.

What is your creative process like? How does your style change over the years?

The things that impress me the most are the microsystems of Nature and how they have evolved to work flawlessly. I am dedicated to exploring these mechanisms and representing them in my way.

Lauren Breatnagh (formally Stewart-Clancy) is a BA graduate in Fine Arts Painting from The National College of Art and Design. She is now living and working in her home studio in Wexford.

Breatnagh’s most recent work focuses on the natural form of flowers and plants as the basis for her work and simultaneously places them amongst unnatural colours and abstract landscapes. These pieces are built up with multiple layers of paint and mixed media.

Breatnagh uses these layers to build textures that add to this otherworldly landscape. The work is mainly influenced by trying to communicate a dream-like state where colours and shapes are used playfully, allowing the viewer to imagine their own interpretations.

If you are familiar with my work, you will know that my use of colour is powerful and vibrant. Losing my 15-year-old sister had impacted my work massively. At first, I believed I would never be able to paint again since I was experiencing an extreme state of loss and grief. I began making these black and grey drawings in response to my grief. They took me on a journey where I could create work that I could not consider as my own style previously. These drawings took me into a very dark moment in my life, and they now mark a very positive moment of development in my career.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and what drove you to choose art as a career?

I guess I am one of those people who can say they were creative for as long as they remember. I was drawn to create art, and I was never really sure where it came from, but it helped me deal with difficult situations in life from a young age. My first memories of creating something were sewing handbags out of paper with my grandmother or making anything out of paper.

I grew up with my little sister, who had special needs and limited language abilities. My relationship with her is the most significant influence in my work. The process of building a relationship without speech, communicating visually through colour and imagery. My paintings are bold in colour and dreamlike, hoping to appeal more to our senses and imagination that is so important to me.

So, to go from there, when my sister passed away two years ago, it created a massive shift in my work. I began making these black and grey drawings that you see today, which is atypical of the work I am known for.

I have really enjoyed developing these pieces, and I think the relationship between them and my colourful paintings is really interesting as they are polar opposites. From my own perspective, I think they look like they are from two different artists, and that is rather exciting for me.

How did the current situation affect your work?

Unfortunately, it has been tough on so many people involved in the arts. However, it did allow for many people to develop their work further with free time at home.

Under so much uncertainty, I felt it was challenging to work steadily and create.

Art relies so much on networking and socialising, and I think that fuels the creative process that definitely influenced me. Nevertheless, all in all, it ended in great results. Online galleries have helped art be more accessible to people during the pandemic.

What kind of impact do you hope that your work has? Aside from the message, is it enough that your art is just beautiful?

I hope that my work will inspire people rather than be aesthetically pleasing. So many artists inspire me, and I guess my hope would be to inspire someone else. I love introducing my work to the younger audience for this reason so that I can encourage them more to start their own artistic attempts without any fears.

Every artist or creative person has their own process. Where does the process begin for you?

Honestly, I have had to put some time into structuring my process. I get so many questions about my process, and I find it quite challenging to explain as it changes so much, and I do not really follow any specific guidelines. I usually do not have an idea about a painting before I start it, it is more of a feeling or a place or environment I want to portray. Sometimes the idea is just a colour, and I want to indulge myself in it! I do like to work on a few pieces at a time as well, so I will have a lot of different things going on in the studio at one time.

What advice would you give somebody who has just started their artistic career?

Keep going on and keep believing in yourself. Apply for as many available things to you, and when you get declined, apply the next time again! It takes time and consistent work every week. Most importantly, I think it is just to get your work out there and your name recognised, you may not get the show you were looking for, but maybe next time, the jury knows your name and already recalls your work. Surround yourself with people that believe in you who support your career.

Can you give us a spoiler on what is coming next for you?

At the moment, it is all under wraps! I have been focusing a lot on online shows with the current climate. I also have some publications coming next year that I am really excited about. Stay tuned! ! I will also offer some print sales online throughout the year so anyone interested can buy some of my works on paper.

Jules is an artist who mainly paints. Jules works are not identical by applying abstractions. Each work is a manifestation of spontaneous thoughts: notes are made and then crossed out again, ‘mistakes’ are repeated.

Her paintings directly respond to the surrounding and daily emotions from the artist as a starting point. Often these are framed instances that would go unnoticed in their original context. With a conceptual approach, she creates intense personal moments masterfully created by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the viewer round in circles.

Her works rarely reference recognizable form. The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted, and the possible interpretations become multifaceted. By manipulating the viewer to create confusion, she tries to approach a wide scale of subjects in a multi-layered style that tends to involve the viewer in the art experience, and that is sometimes physical and believes in the idea of function following form a work.

On the one hand, her works are touchingly beautiful, on the other hand, they are painfully attractive. Again and again, Jules leaves us orphaned with a mix of conflicting feelings and thoughts. Jules currently lives and works in Queens, New York.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and what drove you to choose art as a career?

I am Jules, a self-taught abstract expressionist who mainly uses acrylic on canvas. I am currently based in New York but grew up in Haiti, which is often misunderstood. Abstraction is the best way for me to express myself artistically as it allows for more freedom, different interpretations, and it pushes the audience to think outside the box to understand my artwork. I am a reflection of my work through its impulsivity and spontaneity. I chose art as a career because I have always been fascinated by it, and I want my art to be part of the most captivating things the world gets to see one day.

How did the current situation affect your work?

The current situation pushed me out of my comfort zone through the many emotions (positive and negative) I was feeling. In turn, it allowed me to create some of the most emotional, challenging, but rewarding pieces I have ever created.

What kind of impact do you hope that your work has? Aside from the message, is it enough that your art is just beautiful?

I do not aim to create beautiful art. I want my artwork to be unexpected and gently push people to go within, explore their own emotions, and explore themselves. I hope that people get to feel what I felt while creating the piece.

My art is characterized by its impulsivity, its spontaneity. My artistic process typically begins with an intense emotion that may be positive or negative. Either way, that intense emotion pushes me straight to my canvas.

My advice would be « listen to your impulses, trust yourself and definitely trust the process ».

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Can you talk about your ideas and how they evolve?

My biggest inspiration is how things make me feel, the feelings and emotions that take over me from time to time. At the core of each of my paintings are intense emotions that inspired them at that moment, and looking back at my paintings brings back those emotions to me.

Whatever is occurring around me (positive or negative) evokes intense feelings within me. Using them as inspiration, I let all resistance go and fully indulge in them while impulsively transferring them onto the canvas.

Let’s just say that I always have something unexpected under my sleeve!

Can you tell us what is essential about these projects to you?

What is important to me about these projects is that they reflect my journey so far and what I was going through and feeling at that moment.

«GOD FROM THE ABYSS 2»

«Gods from the Abyss» The series "Gods from the Abyss" symbolizes the subconscious horror of collective humanity, or an individual before what the cosmic abyss hides and what lies beyond the cosmos and what he is unable to understand, it is also a symbol of inevitable doom, something that a person cannot influence. Our whole life sometimes consists of chance. We do not choose the country in which we were born, and we do not choose the eye colour given to us by nature, and so forth. It is not for nothing that the painting God from the Abyss in the hand of "God" depicts a small man in an hourglass, who is gradually covered with sand because he is within time, within his world and limitations.

However, something above him has no good, evil, or pity concepts. The creation of the image of God from the Abyss was influenced by a photograph of an unidentified object called the Black Prince or the Black Knight, photographed in 1998.

«A monster hatching from an egg» The Monster Dimension series is dedicated to the theme of the dark world, the horror genre, dark fiction, the creation and exploration of this world. This is an image of the world that exists beyond good and evil, life and death, and the answers to all questions lie. Therefore, Vasily Andreevich Klochkov visits many universal philosophical symbols and several works, particularly in the graphic "Monster hatching from an egg". He leaves it to the viewer to understand the meaning of the work and tries to do the work so that every time a person finds something new in it for himself, it is inexhaustible. The creation of this series was influenced by the works of Albrecht Durer, whom Vasily Andreevich Klochkov considers the greatest genius in graphics and whom I have loved since early childhood, Hans Giger and Hieronymus Bosch.

Usually, the works of this series are images, objects as if snatched from the darkness. Bahadur Villaschi is a photographer that specialises in photography as a medium.

His photos show everyday items and unexpected events that the audience may identify within rural settings.

He used a documentary approach to photography, and as a result, the majority of his photos were captured candidly in everyday circumstances. Moments that have already happened but which viewers will never be able to experience are being shared with them via the medium of a film.

He is thrilled that my photographs allow others to experience what he was experiencing at a particular moment via his eyes. A moment he catches, a period that cannot be duplicated exists in his viewer's consciousness.

We live in a world where photography is essential to our culture. For Bahadur, photography can inspire him. There are many ways a picture may be used to educate a wide range of people from different cultures and backgrounds. For example, an image can convey various cultural meanings, emotions, power dynamics, sociolinguistics, and values.

Documentation of social life is essential because it allows viewers to make sense of the civilisations' paradigm in which we live. Only the spoken and written words remain without it. We can't fully understand the social subareas in which we live with only these two modes of communication; that is why images are necessary to understand and feel the world around us fully.

MEDUSA MIDUSA ELENA AKANTHIAS INSTALLATION-LITERATURE: AN ENCOUNTER On the first of December, it was the opening of the literary installation of Elena Akanthias.

Digital Chroma was there, too.

We were delighted to discover this particular installation combined with literature.

As we were told, the writers were assigned a particular station without knowing the outcome.

That made us more curious to discover what it is all about and how to write about something that you do not know.

Entering the space of Feldfünf, we discover that it is possible not only two parallel worlds to coexist but also to create something so beautiful!

Let us introduce the " Medusa-Midusa."

Medusa (gr. Μέδουσα): the female monster in Greek mythology that turned anyone who caught sight of her to stone.

Midusa (gr. Μηδούσα)> alliteration of the name of Medusa. In Greek, “Midusa” (From the old Greek Μηδέ-ούσα) means “the non-existent one”.

The work explores the effective power of the ancient Greek myth and reflects on its metaphor. The narrative installation is the psychogram opening a horizon of thought: Do women consciously, subconsciously, or forcedly choose the life they lead? The work combines philosophical examination of life: How much baggage, guilt, and joy are necessary to create freedom and justice?

Elena Akanthias questions the underlying ideological structures of society. The everyday objects she uses enact messages and embody different aspects of the female being: the dream of life, expectations, love, and its power to give birth and reproduce life, suffering, achievements and victories, the search for the ideal self, the end of the journey.

As a parody of stereotypes and common clichés of the dominant value system, microcosm and macrocosm meet in Akanthias´ works.

The linking of literary texts by Greek authors and poets to the works creates a poetic ensemble that addresses the role of women in patriarchy. Through theatrical and atmospheric staging, Akanthias offers a way to question certainties.

Elena Akanthias Elena Akanthias was born in 1972 in Famagusta, Cyprus and grew up in Rethimnon, Crete, Greece.

Akanthias explores women's issues, identity, and cultural and existential questions through a variety of media including objects, text, video, performance, and installation.

She became known as a writer when she was nominated for the 2016 Debut Writer Award in Greece. She lives and works in Berlin and Athens.

Station 3 - Medusa

The Medusa-Medusa exhibition (Medusa: the non-existent, derivation of the name Medusa) is based on the Medusa of ancient Greek mythology, which could petrify anyone who looked at it with one eye.

Medusa, sometimes as a muse and sometimes as a monster, concentrates the female seduction and power, but also the terror, the horror and the abomination, when this female grace cannot be enslaved and silenced, to become, finally, understood. A female figure who is demonized by highlighting the guilt of the woman and acting as a lightning rod for the collective expressions of the fears of diversity and intolerance for others.

Throughout my work (books, installation, performance) the central axis is the gender issues and female identity, highlighting the relevant cultural and existential discussions and their philosophical implications. So this exhibition in particular is an attempt at a postmodern interpretation and metaphor of the Medusa myth.

The marriage of literary texts with installations summarizes, through seven and one stations-references in female life, the epic of the female path: The woman in childhood, in love, as a nurturer and with her power to give birth, as guilty and for this cause of suffering and suffering, the woman in her professional life and in her conquests and downfalls, in her search for the ideal and chimerical self, the oblivion and the end of the journey. The exhibition traces the role of women in patriarchy, seeking her essential fulfilment and in conclusion, comes up with questions about human existence.
