P&W have fitted more than 5000 sensors in their GTF engine which produces 10GB of data per second. So a flight from Europe to Americas will produce more than 800 TB of data. Even Facebook is collecting more than 600 TB of data per day. P&W has an orderbook of more than 7000 engines and when all become operational, P&W will have to potentially process data in ZetaBytes. It HUGE. Imagine something similar that GE Engines are also generating equal size of data.

And why just aircraft engines, we have turbines, MRI, heavy duty machineries which all have thousands of sensors and collecting TB’s of data every day.

We need Big Data and Data Science to process such a huge information.
