Rotary International District 3170

As the monsoon showers grace our Indian landscape, we present the "United Hope" edition for August, reflecting the essence of renewal and growth. It is an honor to serve as the District Secretary GML and Digital Media in our remarkable district during this rainy season, a time when nature itself teaches us about rejuvenation. This edition is a tribute to the profound impact of hope on our Rotary clubs and the communities we touch.
In the words of Jack Welch, "Good leaders create a vision, articulate a vision, and passionately own a vision and turn it into a reality." Our esteemed DG Nasir Borsadwala embodies this principle as he leads us with a vision that is rooted in hope and progress. His leadership inspires us to embrace the monsoon of change, confident that our collective efforts will yield transformative outcomes.
Drawing parallels with the rains that nourish the earth, this edition showcases the stories that illuminate our Rotary clubs' commitment to sowing seeds of hope. Each narrative symbolizes our dedication to translating aspirations into tangible actions that uplift lives and empower communities. These stories remind us that even amidst challenges, Rotary's spirit of hope shines brightly.
Just as the monsoon nurtures growth, our Rotary clubs nurture hope. We invite you to immerse yourselves in the stories within this edition, witnessing the impact of our collective endeavors on individuals and societies. The rain's gentle touch echoes the way Rotary clubs touch lives, nurturing hope, and fostering positive change.
Even as we face new and serious challenges, Rotary takes care of its members and those we serve, works to build lasting peace, and embeds belonging and inclusion in everything we do. That is why I am asking everyone in Rotary to Create Hope in the World.
This year, we're prioritizing projects to support mental health This effort is deeply personal to me I know what it's like to see someone suffer in silence I have also witnessed the power of personal connections, the value of discussing emotional and mental well-being, and the lifesaving impact of preventive care and treatment.
Building peace is the essence of Rotary. Many of our service projects foster the conditions for Positive Peace We work tirelessly to overcome barriers and create new connections This year, we'll promote virtual international exchanges for members to strengthen those vital connections
The spirit of connection and purpose should inspire every Rotary member When club leaders focus on offering an excellent club experience, we retain more members and attract more prospective members. We must make our clubs as welcoming and as engaging as we can.
Our goal is to create a sense of belonging, from our club meetings to our service activities We need to continue creating inclusive, welcoming environments where everyone can be their authentic selves All people of action need to be able to imagine a place for themselves in Rotary - it's up to us to ensure they can do so
Over the next year, I will be putting a focus on continuing our journey in diversity, equity, and inclusion - ensuring that Rotary reflects the communities we serve and continues to take significant steps toward accessing the full range of human talents and experiences, so that we can better serve humanity And we will continue to empower women and girls by helping them unlock the potential already within them
As we begin this journey together, I take inspiration from Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns, who in the 18th century spoke of all the world becoming kin, promoting "sense and worth, over all the earth " This has long been my call to action, and I share it now with you
Let us build peace within and spread it freely. Let us create belonging and imagine the future of Rotary afresh. Let us work together joyously and Create Hope in the World.
In the blink of an eye, an entire month has passed within our tenure of Creating Hope in the World I am confident that each one of you is a contented soul, feeling that you have given your best to the tasks undertaken for the Rotary year 2023-24
By now, I trust that every club has successfully concluded their installation ceremonies, and there is a sense of satisfaction and delight in the completion of this ceremonial function. I have personally attended 24 such installations, traversing over 10,000 kilometres to visit clubs, meet friends, and expand our Rotary family. On many occasions, my spouse, First Lady Sakina, has accompanied me The warmth, love, and affection showered upon us are truly unparalleled The confidence you place in me and my commitment strengthens and propels me to achieve even more Collectively, we have extended our reach, enhanced Rotary's impact, promoted its image, and embraced every member in our shared endeavor. I am pleased to note that the principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion have been earnestly followed by each club.
It brings me immense joy to witness the diverse array of community, vocational, international, youth, and club services that our district's clubs have undertaken In the month of July alone, we have accomplished more than 1500 such activities. Each club is actively aligning itself with the thrust areas set forth by the RI President. The efforts invested in the realm of mental health are especially commendable. Our clubs are pioneering creative and innovative activities, setting us apart from the rest.
While I refrain from singling out individual club activities, please know that to me, every initiative undertaken holds equal value I implore you all to maintain the same level of enthusiasm and dedication as you continue to carry out such impactful activities month after month.
DG Nasir Sir Kolhapur's message highlights a month of progress in the "Creating Hope in the World" Rotary mission. He applauds successful installation ceremonies and diverse service projects aligned with RI President's goals. Strong contributions to Rotary Foundation are noted, while emphasizing precise grant reporting and fulfilling promised donations. The message celebrates team efforts, Rotaractors' success, "Aap Ki Awaaz," and addresses challenges with unity.
I had previously appealed to you to induct Rotarians, not mere members, into our clubs, and I am proud to acknowledge your positive response.
Our contributions to the Rotary Foundation have gained significant momentum right from the outset. We have already made substantial donations to the End Polio fund Notably, 25 Rotarians have pledged to become Major Donors or increase their contributions during 2023-24, with many having already commenced their contributions I wish to make a special mention of R C Mapuca, which has pledged a remarkable $100,000 to TRF during this Rotary year.
Overall, our collections have been impressive, and it is likely that we will surpass $200,000 by the end of August 2023. The End Polio team has been tirelessly encouraging members to contribute to this noble cause and also towards the World's Greatest Meal (WGM) initiative It warms my heart to witness numerous individuals donating and joining this cause I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the TRF & End Polio team
However, there is an area of concern that warrants our attention – the declining percentage of stewardship in reporting global grants. I kindly urge each one of you to ensure meticulous reporting Should any issues arise, please do not hesitate reach out to me
Our Rotaractors are doing a splendid job D Pranjal and her team have wholehearted embraced my call to REVIVE ROTARACT, and as result, the Rotaract team is thriving. Th installation ceremony was impeccably organize reflecting their dedication and enthusiasm. O Interact clubs are also making valuab contributions.
The grand event of my installation, graced by PR Shekhar Mehta, witnessed a turnout of more than thousand attendees, despite heavy rainfall I exte my heartfelt gratitude to my friend, Shekhar Mehta
I reserve special acknowledgment for my team. The entire Secretariat and our district officers have admirably fulfilled their responsibilities, culminating in commendable outcomes.
On a slightly somber note, I must express my disappointment regarding the implementation of your commitment to donate US$ 15 per member along with the S A R I trust that each club will make amends and fulfill the promised contributions I urge clubs to organize Revenue meets and stay abreast of the latest developments in this domain My vision of "Governor at Your Doorstep" will thereby gain momentum.
"Aap Ki Awaaz" is receiving resounding acclaim everywhere. I seek your active participation in this initiative.
Please consider this platform open for you to communicate any concerns or grievances I am committed to finding solutions and ensuring the happiness of each one of you I am pleased to connect with you through this medium of the Governor's Monthly Letter (GML). I extend my heartfelt wishes for success to each and every one of you.

Our District Governor, Rtn. Nasir Borsadwala, has appointed me as the District Secretary –TRF this year. I thank him for the opportunity and HoPe to serve the foundation better with your support and guidance.
Our District TRF Team 23-24, headed by the DG have planned to work for TRF from Day 01 and we want to reach every member of our district through the Assistant Governors, Presidents, Secretaries and other Club Leaders.
We have planned a few challenges which will motivate donors and they will be recognized at periodical intervals. Our primary focus this year is to increase the donor base from 3000 plus members to 6000 members of our district
Through APF Challenges, World’s Greatest Meal (WGM), Paul Harris Society (PHS) and End Polio Fellow we will attemot to carry out these fundraising activities. Our District has been a top performer in Zone 7 over the years.
We would also like to aim and achieve 2 Endowment Funds this year.
The District Grants team is there to support you on any District Grant or Global Grant for your community. Do support them by generating funds to TRF. The deadline to submit District Grant projects to the Grants Team is 15th September 2023. Together let us “Create Hope in the World”! Thank you.
