How to Keep a Clutter-Free Closet

We all love trendy clothing. We love cloth shopping, the feeling of something new, fresh, crisp, and clean. None of us like to be pigeonholed into one set style and we bet you don’t either. We have brought you a guide to the decluttered closet. We have 10 tips for you

to make your closet clutter-free and to work a lot better for you.

1. Schedule Time

The first tip is to schedule a time to organize otherwise you know you’re going to put it off until next week. That day will

30 WWW.WMHINDIA.COM

get busy so you will put it off until another week and the cycle continues or else you’re going to forget and reason with yourself. We would suggest trying and getting your closet done in one go once you build the momentum.

2. Consider YOU

You need to consider the current version of yourself. You should also consider a nearfuture version of yourself, like where you’re going to be and what you’re going to be doing in the next year. Ask yourself what you anticipate happening in the next year that could have an impact on your wardrobe. Maybe you’re looking to change career fields or maybe you’re planning on having children, there are so many things that could change in the next year of your life and if you’re planning those out then you can make those decisions also while you’re pairing down your wardrobe.

3. Make a Plan

A project without a plan is doomed to fail. Go to your closet,

walk around, make a plan, and decide what percentage of clothing you would like to remove from here for it to feel a lot more comfortable. For example, maybe you have hangers that are so crunched together that you can’t even get them to sit flat. You may need to get rid of 50% or more of your closet. This gives you an idea when you’re going through each category, and how many items you would need to get rid of to achieve the goal.

31 WMH INDIA MAGAZINE-JAN-2023

4. Set Up the Space

This is where you’re going to take your tags and designate specific spots where you’re going to put each of the items that you pull out of your closet. Clear enough space in your room or find another room close by that will give you the space to quickly sort through each piece without feeling trapped and overwhelmed.

5. Tackle Only One Category

You are going to tackle only one category or one genre at a time, for example, all of your t-shirts or all of your work apparel. You don’t want to grab everything and just instinctively empty the closet. If you need to clean it as you go then you need to grab a specific category and clean that section because if you do otherwise, you’re going to derail yourself.

6. The Important Questions

Ask yourself important

32 WWW.WMHINDIA.COM

questions about each piece that you pull out of your closet. Does it make sense for the current or near future to keep this or is it past you and you need to say goodbye to it? Is your size flattering to you, your body shape, or your skin tone? Is it in an attractive shape or does it have stains and tears? If you feel like you could mend it, are you going to mend it within the next week? If not, then just trash it.

7. Hard to Decide Aside

Put hard-to-decide pieces in their separate pile. You could take this step at the very last. If you’re worried about how much you’re keeping and if it's all going to fit back in, wait until you’ve already gone through everything and that will provide you with a better perspective of if you want to keep this pile still or not.

33 WMH INDIA MAGAZINE-JAN-2023

8. Outback Purposefully

Put everything back based on the season or genre. Most of you already do a combination of both. For example, you can have space designated for each of the seasons in your closet.

9. Limited Space Issues

The two main reasons you may find that you’ve limited space in your closet are that you’re housing seasonal items and in the near future your items that could be in storage and rotated

34 WWW.WMHINDIA.COM

out. Another option is a rolling wardrobe. It is a great option because it could be housing all of your favorite attire that you couldn’t keep in your closet, but you don’t necessarily want to pack away out of sight.

10. Maintain the Space

Two habits are going to help you to maintain your space very easily. The first one is adopting the one in one out method. Anytime you bring a new piece of clothing into your closet, you should aim to remove one piece. This does two things; it prevents us from continually adding to our closet by causing

you to purge on regular basis and it rotates your fresh style while replacing your old style. The other habit involves a cloth bin. Place the bin somewhere in your closet and toss it in the bin whenever you see a piece that needs to go. This helps you to purge your closet while getting dressed in the morning. We hope that this encouraged you to go onto your closet and declutter. You’re going to be so much happier and so much more efficient in the morning. You’re going to save so much time each day.

FROM THE VAULT - Roshni

Meet the young and extremely talented makeup artist who is a computer science graduate from KIIT university. Roshni started her journey by writing blogs but being in front of the camera is more of her thing. She got a lot

of recognition in a very short time span. She believes in smart work more than hard work. Besides being a make-up artist, she is also a content creator who makes very relatable videos for her audience.

36 WWW.WMHINDIA.COM
“I feel good about myself after applying makeup”,

When she was asked that how supportive her parents were for the work she is doing, she said,

Until I was not a graduate, my parents wanted me to do a job under some IT company but I was not at all interested in that field as I don’t consider myself as a computer nerd. But when the lock-down happened, I started doing a lot of content

in front of my mom when she noticed the amount of effort, I put into this. She said, it is okay if I want to go forward with this career only if I get a permanent job out of it“

Inspired by Kritika Khurana who motivated her to get into this career was her biggest idol. Also, Lily Singh and BTS are the ones who inspired her, as she gains immense motivation from them. BTS music helps to calm her down if she is very nervous or stressed.

37 WMH INDIA MAGAZINE-JAN-2023

When asked about what is the most important quality according to you should be there in a makeup artist, she said,

“I am a lazy person; I do my shoots on the weekends and then I am off of my phone. I just schedule my post for everyday and then I just take rest. As I have a very sensitive skin, I cannot afford to put make-up every day, so I create various

looks in a day”

She believes in working at her own pace but doing justice to whatever she does. She is very much into dancing besides make-up, it helps her to also create reels. And, in a very quirky and funny way, she mentioned that besides all these she also loves sleeping. When she feels low or sad, she just likes to sleep through it and after that, she feels better.

Talking about how she deals with the criticism she said that.

“I’m very bad at applying false eyelashes, so for that people come at me and start criticizing a lot, but I do not mind that. I have not faced serious criticism but there are always people who try to pull you down by saying mean stuff, so I just laugh it off and forget about it.

Roshni feels good about herself when she applies makeup which builds confidence and makes her feels powerful.

She is very mature in handling criticism and has a positive outlook on life. She has previously worked for a lot of

38 WWW.WMHINDIA.COM

brands. Her favorite makeup product is mascara, she loves her eyelashes, so she loves putting on mascara a lot. According to her the 3 makeup products that no woman should leave home without are compact, lipstick, and mascara.

Her interest in make-up was there from her childhood itself. But she properly started makeup when she was in high school. Her friends Simran and Sejal always used to motivate her to pursue this as a career.

Being an Odia, she makes relatable content for the Odia audience and also promotes her culture in whatever way she can. Roshni creates relatable Odia reels where she gets the highest number of reaches compared to other content. She believes that Odia people have a lot of potential and the capability to reach greater heights. Currently, that is happening as well but still, there is a need for a good platform and representation. Roshni hates when people do not recognize her as Odia but belonging to some other state.

She has been associated with various kinds of social causes as well, relating to periods and other issues during her college time.

In the future, she wants to work for the LGBTQIA+ community as she feels that they are not getting the right kind of representation and she personally loves them. So that is something she looks forward to in the future.
