On 9 August, Women’s day, eight Maties ladies and four pick-ups gathered to represent Stellenbosch at the Ultimate Frisbee Women’s Nationals in Cape Town. The tournament took place from 8 - 10 August at Woolsac, University of Cape Town and Gardens Tech Rugby Club in Cape Town. The Maties women entered the tournament at a disadvantage with a small squad, and battled their way to the finals in a weekend of sweat, wind and Cape Town sunshine. The Maties ladies played a
total of seven matches, of which only two matches were lost during the first two days of the tournament. In this time Maties played a total of five gruelling games. On the final day, Maties dominated their semi-final to play their way to the final. The Maties women pulled out the big guns during the final, playing a brilliant defensive game in the strong wind. They were narrowly beaten by local team, TnT, in the last few minutes. Overall, the tournament was a celebration of the power, strength and grace of women from all over South Africa, coming together to celebrate the sport of Ultimate Frisbee.
