As we transition into the crisp, colorful days of fall, I’m excited to share our latest Dickinson Parks & Recreation Activity Guide. This edition is full of programs and events designed to keep our community active, connected, and inspired throughout the coming seasons. While reviewing the offerings, I’ve been reflecting on the important connection between recreation and mental well-being. As
a parent, I recognize the physical, social, and emotional benefits children gain from participating in wholesome, structured activities. But sometimes, I forget that I need those same benefits too. Studies show that adults who participate in recreational team sports experience improved psychological well-being— including reduced levels of depression, anxiety, and stress, along with a stronger sense
of belonging (https://doi. org/10.1186/s13643-023-022648). With that in mind, I invite you to explore all the opportunities available this season—for yourself and your family. Whether you’re trying something new or returning to a favorite program, we hope you’ll find ways to stay active, feel connected, and be inspired. Sign up today—we’ll see you out there! - Executive Director Benjamin Rae, CPRE.

OUR MISSION OUR VALUES
Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for the community and its visitors by providing leisure opportunities.
Our vision is for area residents to become aware and involved in making positive contributions to the well-being of themselves and others in the community.
IT’S A TEAM EFFORT
In recent years, Dickinson Parks & Recreation has made a meaningful impact—both within the organization and across the broader community. At the heart of this success is a teamoriented culture built on trust, collaboration, and a shared commitment to serving the people of Dickinson.
Our dedicated staff is what makes the district shine. With strong leadership and a peoplefirst approach, DPR places both staff and community at the center of every decision. We strive to understand the roles and contributions of each team member, fostering relationships and creating a workplace where innovation, respect, and teamwork thrive.
Through this unified effort, the district has achieved major milestones—from launching the Dickinson Parks & Recreation Foundation to earning the prestigious National Gold Medal Award. With a steady focus on financial responsibility and strategic growth, DPR continues to lay the groundwork for longterm success.
Major capital projects and expanded community resources are part of our forward momentum—but it’s the day-to-day commitment to listening, learning, and working together that truly defines our organization. We believe the best outcomes come when staff feel supported and empowered, and when community voices help shape our direction.
BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS
Whether through enhanced programming, partnerships, or simply showing up with a willingness to serve, Dickinson Parks & Recreation remains focused on one mission; working together to make Dickinson an even better place to live, work, and play.
While Dickinson Parks & Recreation remains committed to maintaining its unique identity, the strength of the district lies in the relationships built throughout the community. These partnerships—with patrons, user groups, and local organizations—are at the heart of everything we do. Each day, the district works to better understand the evolving needs of the community, using that insight to guide resources, shape programs, and set priorities. By actively listening and engaging with our partners, we ensure that our efforts align with what matters most to Dickinson. Strong relationships are not just a part of our mission— they are the foundation for progress.

If your organization is looking for a way to get involved in the community, the Dickinson Parks & Recreation Adopt-A-Park program would be a great fit.
In this partnership, with the help of volunteers from your organization, we can provide general maintenance and upkeep of parks and facilities within Dickinson. The idea is for residents to take ownership of their local park and improve the overall quality of the area. Participating groups help DPR keep an eye out for potential hazards, vandalism, cleanliness, and general park mistreatment.
