CHAMBER COMMITTEES Agriculture Committee: They are putting together 2014 Ag Day promotions. They have also begun to plan for the 2014 WRLS. Ambassadors /Membership Committee: They have started planning the 2014 Chamber Fun Day Golf Scramble. They are also working on a Chamber mixer for April 29th.

Education Committee The committee is considering hosting Lunch & Learns on a monthly basis. They are also looking into other professional development opportunities.

Governmental Affairs Working on mission statement and a strategic plan.

Leadership Dickinson Committee: In March they will be learning about the energy industry.

Promotions Committee: The Promotions committee has set the date for the 2014 Holiday Craft Show. It will be held December 6th at the Astoria Hotel and Suites.

Business After Hours The next Business After Hours is March 4th at Hawks Point and March 18th at Wells Fargo.

3on 3 Committee They have began planning for the 2014 Hoopfest. The 3on3 Hoopfest will take place May 3rd and 4th. Registration will be available soon.

Our February Leadership Dickinson session was State Government Day where we traveled to Bismarck to tour our capital. We started out our day at a brisk 7 a.m. with a hour and a half drive in the cold bus towards Bismarck.

Upon arriving at Bismarck we met up with Senator Kelly Armstrong who would serve as our private tour guide for the day.

Our first appointment was with the Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem where we visited about his position and responsibilities. While talking with him we found out that his office was the only office to have a private bathroom, which he shared was a touchy subject with the governor. We continued our day in the Roughrider Room where we sat in on the Government Finance Legislative Committee. We then took a break and stopped by the Capital's cafeteria for a quick lunch. After lunch we had a brief meeting with Governor Jack Dalrymple where we talked about what he does and asked him about the touchy subject of not having a private bathroom that Attorney General Stenehjem warned us about. We continue our tour down to the Senate Chambers were we met with Majority Leader Rich Wardner After meeting with Senator Wardner we went to the Treasure's Office where we met with Kelly Schmidt and talked about her position as the Treasurer and the many hats that she wears. Our next stop was the Tax Commissioner's Office where we learned the importance of their job to regulate laws and to deal with anything related to taxes in North Dakota.

During this meeting Senator Armstrong brought up a point to possibly begin work with the Tax Commissioner on creating a new bill to be introduced at the next legislative session. We continued our tour on the 12th floor at the Public Service Commission where we were able to sit in on an informal meeting regarding a pipeline that could run from Killdeer to Dickinson. Our final meeting at the capital was with Jim Smith who is the head of the Legislative Council. We wrapped up our day with a bus ride home and an overloaded brain from all the things we had learned.

The DACC schedules monthly Business After Hours during the year for everyone in the Dickinson area. Business After Hours are true community mixers where one can come and meet your fellow Chamber members, your neighbor and maybe your next customer! Business After Hours are hosted by a different business each month. They are exciting and they are fun!

Perhaps one of the most important things the DACC does is to maintain an office in the heart of our business community. Located in the log building on 3rd Avenue W, the office gets lots of “walk-ins” per day. These people are looking for maps, recommendations, printed brochures and all kinds of information! In addition, we receive calls during the year for relocation packages to be mailed to those thinking about moving to the Dickinson area. We are proud to send them information about our area and our member businesses! These people call or visit the DACC because they recognize it by name. They want the “local” chamber and they get it with us!

A day doesn't pass without the Chamber directly serving your best interests either through planned programs, business recommendations, or in making the Dickinson area an even better place to live and work. Where else can you make a positive impact on the community, invest in Dickinson future, broaden your business contacts, enhance your leadership and professional skills and have this much fun?!??

Member News Job Fair Offered by DSU and Job Service of ND The Career Development Center at Dickinson State University and Job Service ND would like to extend a special invitation to Chamber members to attend the 2014 Job Fair on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the Biesiot Activities Center. This is an excellent opportunity for employers to meet applicants and conduct on-site interviews.

The schedule for the 2014 Job Fair is as follows: 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Employer Set up 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Doors Open 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Veteran’s Preference (DD214 Required for Admission) 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. DSU Students and Alumni (DSU Student ID Required for Admission)

3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Open to the general public Please watch for registration to open soon at www.dickinsonstate.edu.

Registration fee is $50 for one representative/company which includes one meal and $10 for each additional representative which includes an additional meal. Suites will be offered first to employers who are current suite holders at the Biesiot Activities Center for a $75 registration fee. If they do not wish to retain their suite for the 2014 Job Fair, 9 suites will be available to employers on a first come first serve basis for a $75 registration fee.

Registration will be limited to 50 employers.

St. Joseph’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Women’s Clinic Add New Providers St. Joseph’s Women’s Clinic has added Aime Schillinger PA-C to enhance services and to better serve the health care needs of women in Southwest North Dakota, while St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center Emergency Department welcomes Rebecca Kieker, FNP. Amie Schillinger, PA-C Amie Schillinger serves as a Physician Assistant at St. Joseph’s Women’s Clinic, providing care in women’s health, obstetrics, and family practice. She received her BSN in nursing from Dickinson State University and then completed her Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program from Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana. Amie says, “I’m excited to be back in Dickinson, which is such a progressive community with so much to offer young families.” Amie’s work experience has included family practice, urgent and walk-in care, emergency medicine, orthopedics, neurology, hospital, and nursing home coverage. Prior to coming to St. Joseph’s, Amie most recently provided family practice, hospital, and ER care for 3 years in her hometown of Baker, Montana. Diabetes Education Receives $5000 from Eagles Club Sharon Olheiser, RN, Certified Diabetes Educator and St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation accepted $5000.00 from Dickinson’s Eagles Club Trustees on behalf of the hospital for local Diabetes education and support. The local Eagles Club has given significant dollars to Diabetes Research Center at the University of Iowa over the years. Kash Kremer says, “This is our way of giving back locally. We feel very strongly about Diabetes education and research.” While receiving the donation, Sharon Olheiser said, “This generous donation from the Eagles Club will help us continue to provide diabetes medications and supplies for discharged patients that do not have the funds to purchase them. As our population grows, we are seeing an increased need for this service. Providing discharged patients with the basics to manage their diabetes keeps them well and improves their quality of life.”

Member News American Bank Names Executive Vice President

American Bank Center is pleased to announce the hiring of Ryan Beck as Executive Vice President. This is a new position responsible for the overall implementation and management of the bank’s objectives, policies and strategic plans to achieve growth, profit, and operational efficiencies.

Ryan worked for American Bank Center for 15-years as a Business Banking Officer and Supervisor. He left in early 2013 for the position of Business Manager of a heavy highway construction company based out of Dickinson.

Ryan has a bachelor’s degree from Dickinson State University. He is also a graduate of the Dakota School of Banking and the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin. Beck will begin his new duties February 17, 2014 and will be based in Dickinson.

Nick Hacker Named President of North Dakota Guaranty & Title Co. Nick Hacker, Vice President of North Dakota Guaranty & Title’s Co.’s Northwest Region, has been promoted to President of the company.

Hacker joined NDGT in July 2012 as the Williston Office Manager. In 2013, he was named Vice President of the Northwest Region. Hacker brings extensive business development, land title, real estate and executive management experience to the position.

Prior to joining NDGT, he worked for five years as a Business Development Manager and Real Estate Agent. Hacker also worked for three years as the Manager of State Government Affairs for the American Land Title Association in Washington, D.C., where he was responsible for the association’s state legislative and regulatory advocacy, grass roots engagement and strategic partnerships.

Hacker served in the North Dakota Senate from 2004 to 2008, the youngest Senator in state history. He currently serves as the North Dakota Land Title Association’s Legislative Committee Chair and Lobbyist. He earned a bachelor’s degree in managerial finance and real estate from the University of North Dakota.

DFC Consultants Hires Accountant Amy Hannesson has joined DFC Consultants as an Accountant/Consultant. Her responsibilities include inside accounting and assisting customers with their accounting needs. Amy graduated from NDSU and was formerly a Partner Account Manager at APAC, a Microsoft vendor, for five years.

DFC Consultants is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner specializing in Microsoft Dynamics GP, CRM, DFC Property Management and WennSoft. Along with software sales and support, DFC Consultants offers custom programming, website development and accounting services.

Jeff Wedul of DFC Consultants wins award Jeff Wedul, Programmer for DFC Consultants, has achieved the status of a Microsoft Dynamics Certified Technology Specialist. In order to achieve this status, Wedul had to complete in-depth testing on Microsoft Dynamics products.

Member News NEW SUSTAINABLE INFRASTRUCTURE TOOL AVAILABLE

AE2S (Advanced Engineering and Environmental Services, Inc.) is pleased to announce the addition of Envision ™, a new value-added tool to help clients provide sustainable infrastructure for current and future generations.

AE2S is a charter member of the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI). ISI administers the Envision sustainable infrastructure rating system, which AE2S will offer as part of civil infrastructure planning, construction, and operations services. ISI is a non-profit education and research organization founded by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), American Public Works Association (APWA), and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) to develop and maintain a civil infrastructure rating system.

“The primary purpose of Envision is to provide a decision support tool for civil infrastructure projects to ensure sustainable infrastructure for our current generation, and more importantly, future generations,” said Jared Heller, PE, AE2S Fargo Assistant Operations Manager. “We’re proud to say that AE2S has the first Envision-credentialed professionals in North Dakota.”

AE2S engineers who recently earned certifications as Envision Sustainability Professionals (ENV SP) are Heller, Stephen Norton, Brett Morlok, Jarda Solc, and Nate Weisenburger. “Each of them is trained to use the Envision sustainable infrastructure rating system as a guide to address triple bottom line sustainability dimensions in the design, construction, and operation of an infrastructure project,” said Heller. “We're ready to show our clients how this system can help them establish sustainable infrastructure projects today and in the future.”

TODD KELLEY JOINS AE2S AE2S (Advanced Engineering and Environmental Services, Inc.) has hired Todd Kelley as a Project Manager in the firm’s Watford City, ND office. He is part of AE2S’ Civil Engineering Division and is helping coordinate, manage, and inspect several municipal water projects in Watford City.

Kelley has more than 17 years of civil engineering and project management experience. Before joining AE2S, he was Municipal Department Manager at GDA Engineers in Cody, WY, where he supervised municipal and civil engineering projects, and led business development and marketing efforts. Kelley has also worked for consulting firms in Williston, ND and Nevada.

“Todd’s background on projects in both large and rural population areas is very helpful as we assist clients in the growing Bakken region of North Dakota,” said Lisa Ansley, PE, Operations Manager of AE2S’ Bismarck Office. “He has planned, designed, and constructed several residential, commercial, and municipal projects in areas experiencing large population growth. He’s also managed branch offices in smaller, rural locations.”

Kelley holds a Professional Engineering license in North Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, and Arizona.

Originally from Shelley, ID, Kelley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT.
