Jean was preceded in death by her siblings Floyd Whitlock, Jr., Anne “Kelly” Whitlock, James E. Coverton, Jr., and Almede Booker.
She is survived by her devoted daughters, Chekena Whitlock and April Merritte (Larry), and her bonus children, Everett Lamont Finn (Grace) and Britney Finn of Grand Prairie, TX. She also leaves behind her loving companion, Everette Finn, Jr. Jean was a proud grandmother to Corey Bowden Jr. of Woodbridge, VA, Christopher Bowden, Malik Merritte of Manassas, VA, Chandler Cosby, and Chase Cosby, and bonus grandchildren, Trenton Finn, Landon Finn, Jordan Finn, and Johari Britt of Grand Prairie, TX
Jean is also survived by her sisters, Cornelia “Connie” Blakeney (Charles) of Alexandria, VA, and Linda Booker, and her brothers, Charles Booker and Jerome Booker. Her nephews Floyd “Pooka” Whitlock III of Baltimore, MD and Christopher Blakeney of Alexandria, VA, nieces Sharita Boger of Washington, DC, Jasmine Coverton, and Alexus Coverton Ft. Washington, MD, and goddaughter Ashley Aytes (Michael), held a special place in her heart. She will be fondly remembered by her devoted cousins, Bobby Day and Lois Bailey, and her longtime friend, Carolyn Moore.
In her early years, Jean attended Ebenezer Baptist Church and later joined Tabernacle Baptist Church, where her faith continued to guide her life. She grew up in Richmond’s Church Hill neighborhood, attended Richmond Public Schools, later earned her GED, and pursued a career in nursing.
In 1979, Jean began working at Thalhimers Distribution Center, where she served as a supervisor for 10 years. She later became the executive personal assistant for the late E. Claiborne and Lora Robins, a role she cherished from 1989 until her retirement in 2011.
Jean had a passion for singing, cooking, baking, shopping, and decorating—she had an eye for interior design and a gift for styling. She was known for entertaining family and friends, and her legendary annual luau parties were. She also had a deep love for music, especially the soulful tunes of The Whispers, which could often be heard playing in her home. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she made it a magical time for her family, filling her home with warmth, laughter, and beautifully decorated spaces. Her affection for animals was evident in the way she cared for her beloved cocker spaniels, Scottie and Dixie, who were named after her favorite musical group. Her devotion to her family, her love of music, and the joy she found in the little things will be cherished forever.
Her vibrant personality left a lasting impression on everyone she met—if you met Jean, you would never forget her. Jean Renea Whitlock’s generous spirit, unwavering love for her family, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Speak of me as you have always done, Remember the good times, laughter, and fun. Share the happy memories we’ve made, Do not let them wither or fade.
I’ll be with you in the summer’s sun, And when the winds chill has come.
I’ll be the voice that whispers in the breeze,
I’m peaceful now, put your mind at ease.

I’ve rested my eyes and gone to sleep, But memories we’ve shared, are yours to keep. Sometimes our final days, maybe a test, But remember me, when I am at my best. Although things may not be the same, Don’t be afraid to use my name. Let your sorrow last for just a while, Comfort each other and try to smile.
I’ve lived a life full of joy and fun. Live on now, make me proud of what you’ll become.
