elcome to "Metamorphosis," our Year 12 IB DP Visual Arts Exhibition, in which students used art to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas as they explored the themes of transformation, renewal, and adaptation in various mediums. They have drawn inspiration from their surroundings and used their art to document the changes in their lives and the lives of those around them. This exhibition is the culmination of their hard work and creativity, and we are proud to present their work.
We hope you enjoy our exhibition and leave inspired by the works of our talented artists. Thank you for taking the time to explore “Metamorphosis.”
ur year faced a unique situation in which COVID19 kept us in a cocoon that hindered us for almost four years. We ended MYP in COVID, and started DP in the midst of it. Now the pandemic has lessened, all of us have changed in many ways, metamorphosising over the years. We've developed our artistic abilities, gotten more experiences to show, and most importantly: we are ready to emerge from the cocoon, stronger than before, and spread our wings. We hope you enjoy the fruits of our experiences.
ife has its ups and downs.
As we mature as individuals, we forge new friendships, deepen our bonds with one another, and split ways with some of our most precious friends. The path to adulthood is not simple, and each person's hardships are unique to each of their own. Despite some people facing more difficult paths and tribulations than
others, society often shuns them rather than acknowledging their fortitude and endurance. When, in reality, our individual experiences — no matter how terrible or memorable they may be — are the building blocks that shape our identities, and thus my exhibition collection centred on "Identity and Trauma" strives to honour all of these growing pains.

HHow do our own identities effect
our place in society? This is a question that although may be essentially easy to answer, can be interpreted through various mediums. Through the lens of my own self-expression, as reflected in my art, identity in relation to society does not necessarily refer to how one's societal or social class is determined by their identity, but also how one can be struggling to find their own place within respective communities. My exhibition significantly explores usage of lens-based/digital mediums to ensure thematical and stylistic coherence, further supported by usage of various symbols that appear throughout many works in my exhibition. Overall, my pieces may solely be a figment of my imagination, since all ideologies and sub-themes explored are interpreted through the lens of me.

the dysphoria we live in
my art refers to the imperfections within human nature and society. I selected this theme to focus my pieces on topics that I find significant within the lives of both myself and my peers. The theme of my works is divided into different concepts, covering focuses such as addiction, peer pressure, selfimage or the idea of love.
Many of the intentions behind my artwork derive from what I have observed from the people around me and my own experiences. The numerous symbols and figures in my pieces represent an idea aligned with my intention. My works mainly incorporate abstract elements to express the focus of my theme through exploring both 2D and 3D mediums.

evelopment of civilization/humanity had changed our life, and the world. This had evolved our technology, life, society, future, culture, etc. I think it is very significant to understand the essential feature of the importance of this theme. If you show it in the form of a work of art, people will be able to find out the deep meaning of this theme and why this feature is meaningful in our lives now.
There are numerous message elements and symbols in my work. I hope that Audiences, through these elements in my work, will demonstrate the meaningful significance and spirit of inquiry that the development of technology has in relation to this theme consciousness. I had a huge interest on this topic, so I put many efforts onto my artworks by using various media and applications.

kigai is a concept from a Japanese term
“Iki” meaning ‘alive’ or ‘life’ and “gai” is to describe value or worth. When combined, these terms refer to our ‘reason for being’. Ikigai appears as our life purpose or bliss, it’s what brings us joy and inspires us to get out of bed every day, many Japanese people also believe it has a lot to do with their longevity and living a happy life.
Ikigai in traditional Japanese philosophy focuses on finding our bliss, while Western interpretations use Ikigai to find our dream career. Apart from living a longer and happier life, knowing our Ikigai can help us find our; ideal work lifestyle, create strong social connections, create a healthy-work life balance, and pursue career dreams.
