Open Constructed Water Ways Underground Pipelines Flood Basins

This map shows different water bodies that exist in Las Vegas Valley.

Main three categories of water bodies are divided into open natural, open constructed, and underground. Open naturals are free-flowing water that are natually formed and are not controlled by engineered man-made structures. Open constructed are water ways that are conrolled by man-made structures such as concrete wash ways. Undergrounds are pipelines that runs across the valley underneath the surace. By differentiating and mapping out water water bodies into open natual, open constructed and underground, it allows the viewers to visually understand how much water is hidden from human sight vs how much is utilized as destinations that people would go to appreciate desert waterscape.

san miguel community garden nara neighborhood RHINO/LUMION/PHOTOSHOP/ ILLUSTRATOR/INDESIGN Location Year Category

Las Vegas, NV Spring Semester 2018, in partnership with Maelle Egea Master Plan/Commercial

Founded in February 2014, the San Miguel Community Garden is the heart of the NorthWest Area Residents Association (NARA). It is a result of constant care and upkeep from resident volunteers, which is a munity of the garden. It will contain an events pavilion and lawn, extended garden beds, accessible garden beds, an amphitheatre, rolling hills, a butterfly walk, and an animal extension. Since the existing pavilion is already used for events, we wanted to create a larger multi-functional space and increase open green space throughout the neighborhood. The lawn can host events such as farmers markets and weddings. Adjacent to El Jen Healthcare, the garden will now contain ADA accessible gardens to cater to their residents. Community

Down the road from the Community Garden is a vacant lot adjacent to the WestCare Facility.

As a controversial site to the neighborhood, we wanted to be conscious of its history and the concerns that were brought up by community members while moving forward. We propose an Equestrian Center that can working round pens, a demonstration round pen, a barn, an apple orchard extension to the garden, gathering space, and low-density living. The Facility can use it as an equine therapy amenity to be introduced to their program. The apple orchard extension links the Community Garden and the Equestrian Center while relating tended living to the Facility. We aim to create a space that can be used by the residents of NARA, while easing the tensions of the site’s history.

Thus, the proposed site re-grading is to allow for more dynamic form and to better drainage. considering all the concrete buildings and walkways around it. The water should also create white noise that should mask any distracting noise, which should be an invitation for students, faculty, and visitors alike to utilize this space.

A product of the lockdown due to COVID-19 in 2020, Desert Craft Haus started out as a creative outlet turned to a small business within a year of launch. By handmixing concrete and pigments, we produce a variety of handcrafted home goods that are both functional and decorative. Due to our material’s organic nature, each piece comes out unique and one-of-a-kind.
