My name is Diana Vasquez O’Dea. I am currently a junior in the Interior Design program at Virginia Tech. In 8th grade, I attended a career fair where I had the opportunity to listen to a speaker who was an interior designer. She shared with us the aspects of her job that she loved and the satisfaction she derived from creating spaces that resonate with people on a personal level. Before that day, whenever anyone asked what I could see myself doing, I always answered with uncertainty. But after that career day experience, everything changed. Hearing her speak with great passion about the work she loves made me want to experience the same. Whenever anyone asks, “What do you want to do when you are older?” I now reply with certainty, knowing what I want to do. Here I am, pursuing a degree in interior design and getting close to completion. With that in mind, I hope to expand my knowledge in this field professionally, focusing specifically on the hospitality and residential sectors.

Links is a jewelry boutique that sits on a corner in NYC. It focuses on promoting sustainability within the products and its interior space.
I looked up the word chains and what spoke out to me was “a connected flexible series of metal links.” I used this as the foundation of my design. My concept is connectedness to the community regarding jewelry, not just selling jewelry for wealthy individuals but for everyday clients as well. My goal is to sell affordable (under $500) sustainable jewelry pieces in my boutique, by having brands such as Milly Grace and Wolf & Moon. They focus on using recycled materials. I also incorporated a lot of curves in my design to connect to the curves/links on a chain. I have created a luxury-looking jewelry store that many people can afford to go to.

Sketchup, Photoshop, Enscape, Welcome Center/ Commerical Kitchen | Group |Spring 2023
Worked with Arianna Konstanty and Anna Harmon
We were tasked to renovate the welcome center and implement a commercial kitchen. As a team we decided to pull from the overall branding and color scheme of the YMCA, our design uses zoning to differentiate the different spaces as a way of way-finding. In addition the light fixture shown in the welcome center was another form of way-finding.
With the use of color we created an inviting enviroment where residents from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds and social classes will come together to work, shop, create and play in harmony. The design also promotes a sense of place and community by providing many opportunities to interact with other residents from within and outside the community.
