Development and realization Our involvement in the wind energy business dates back to the late 1970’s when we carried out wind resource assessments, environmental analyses and project feasibility studies in partnerships with universities and scientific institutions. We have established long-standing relationships with private sector development companies and leading wind turbine manufacturers in the field of project implementation. Latter involvement includes location assessments, statutory licensing subjects, structural design of foundations for turbine towers. We are well in pace with the spectacular advances in turbine technology with the related electrical equipment, automation and operation control.

Scope of services DHV’s services span the entire project cycle and range from initial technical design, project management, tendering civil and construction works and environmental considerations to construction management. Hence our clients can be found in both the public and private sector including statutory authorities, wind farm owners, electricity companies, project developers (facilitators and initiators) and the turbine manufacturing industry (suppliers).

The global challenge Wind energy is a significant and powerful global energy resource. The majority of the scientific community agrees that the main cause for climate change is the burning of fossil fuels to heat and power our homes and businesses. The wind is a clean, inexhaustible fuel, which is easily converted to electricity without any of the harmful by-products associated with conventional sources of power, such as nuclear and fossil fuel energy. Electricity generated from wind replaces that from conventional power stations, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions. A growing number of energy generating and utility companies now view wind power as an attractive business and are expanding their operations in the wind energy market. The new opportunities provide an extra boost to technological development and add new capital and capability to a rapidly expanding industry.

Structural analyses and engineering of tower foundations in compliance with prevailing IEC 61400 standards, building codes, certification requirements etc. • Internal and external electrical subsystems covering voltage transformation, protection, monitoring, control, telemetry. Network interconnection equipment; substation. Grid compliance with considerations of reliability and control. • Statutory permit procedures (physical planning, environment, building code etc). Health and safety requirements. • Risk analyses and management. Quality assurance. • Technical specifications, contract documents. • Procurement strategy, tender and bidding procedures. • Project and construction management.
