The Dancing Bleachers 2

The Dancing Bleachers was presented at The Wexner Center of Arts, designed by Peter Eisenman. The Architect Eric Owen Moss observed how Peter Eisenman played with the grid in the Wexner Center building, Eric derived that “center doesn't hold”, there is no center to the grids seen in Wexner Center, which might imply to be one with the absence of it(center). The Dancing Bleachers introduced a new kind of geometry with the absence of the center, which suggested a different kind of organisation hypothesis.

Organisation of the radial grid for ribbons2

As seen in the above image, Eric Owen Moss’s new organisation hypothesis with the absence of center is perceived.

Despite the help of MATT’s Structural agencies and other software operators the architect wants to own the structure. This new radical approach to the exoskeleton system was detached and, the building was not directly connected with ground and made it separate with base isolation.

This structure of this Subversive Deconstructive Exoskeleton System consists of Built-up steel plate band exoskeleton with exposed cementitious fireproofing, wide flange girder floor framing with exposed metal deck at perimeter, steel plate shear walls (SPSW) at core, triple pendulum base isolated structure, aluminum window wall glazing, cement plaster hyperbolic support walls and stair enclosures, cast in place concrete subterranean garage.4 As seen in the image belows the above mentioned elements form the whole system in which the ribbons wrap the whole glass building and the floors are supported by the chords connected to the ribbons. Also the girders and tertiary beams run along the slab for support. Of Course the slab is a metal deck composite slab. Band aids are elements which attach the girders to the ribbons(bands).
