December Mission of the Month at B2 Store in Wyoming

962 A 28th St SW, Wyoming, MI 49509

For the past four years, I have been blessed to serve at David’s House Ministries. During my time here, I’ve seen the number of residents we serve increase from 37 to 61 We have grown from 4 homes to 8 and we have survived a Pandemic and all the challenges that provided. We know that none of this happens without an incredible God and incredible people People who support DHMIN with their prayers and their financial resources People who volunteer their time to assist with activities throughout our community. People employed by DHMIN who go above and beyond to support the individuals who call these houses their home

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms ” 1 Peter 4:10

Our community has been busy the last few years. We now have six houses in Wyoming and two houses in Grandville. We created more greenspace and through the generous support of friends of DHMIN, we put up a concrete slab and a large tent that is a centerpiece all summer. In 2018 while serving 37 residents our annual operating budget was just under $4 million, and we had to raise approximately $1 7 million just to operate Due to the diligence of many, we have been able to increase the number of people we serve, (24 new residents), while increasing our budget to $5 million but still needing to raise $1 5 million to operate I say “still needing” knowing this is a huge number and it takes many supporters who care for our mission and the 61 residents we serve to meet this annual goal.

This edition of the Pulse offers a small glimpse into our finances from the 2022 fiscal year. We take pride in knowing we are being good stewards of the resources we have received We will continue to do our best to steward and provide the care and support the residents, their families, and our friends have come to expect. Thank you for the prayers and support you have entrusted us with over the years

Blessings,

Vice President David's House Ministries dsteenstra@dhmin.org dhmin org/join the team/ Dave Steenstra, Human Resources Manager This December, DHMIN has been selected to receive a percentage of sales from the B2 Outlet Store in Wyoming. What a great way to support DHMIN and get some shopping done

This year we not only reached our goal of $130K but raised over $135K and had over 200 hundred people in attendance!

Thank you to all our sponsors, family, and friends who made this Walk/Ride/Run the best one yet. It is always fun when we get the opportunity to gather as a community and celebrate David's House Ministries and the families we serve

On the event day, we took a lap or two around our community, played games, shared fundraising totals, issued prizes, and celebrated reaching our goal. It was such a blessing to witness all the joy and laughter shared amongst the crowd.

We are excited to see everyone next year! Stay tuned for more information about upcoming events

DR. MICHAEL BRASHEARS

DIRECTOR OF ORGANIZATIONAL EXCELLENCE

Meet our Director of Organizational Excellence, Dr. Michael Brashears (Dr B), one of our newest members of the David's House Administration team!

Michael is currently assisting DHMIN in aligning the care we provide residents to the amount of money we receive from our funders. This is done by ensuring that the amount of assistance we provide residents is documented and that DHMIN has a clear picture of what it costs to provide care daily. He also assists DHMIN in dialogues with funders to increase our reimbursement rate

Michael has known about David's House for over ten years and is excited to start formally providing consultation to our leadership staff.

"I enjoy seeing the love and care residents and staff have for each other," Michael said.

Most of his activity outside of work is centered around his four children: Marcus, Hannah, Grace, and Caroline. Michael's hobbies include anything at the beach, reading, and learning new things

He first attended Azusa Pacific University in Southern California and holds the following degrees: AA: in Behavioral Science, BA: in psychology, MA: in Clinical and Family Psychology, and a Psy D: in Clinical and Family Psychology

A fun fact about him is he grew up outside of Boston and is a big Boston sports fan

MATTHEW W.

HOUSE FOUR RESIDENT

If you have had the pleasure of seeing Matt around our community, you know he is filled with energy and is always up for an activity, especially if it involves a game.

He loves watching game shows and listening to jazz music in his free time When Matt is not watching Jeopardy, he enjoys eating all the delicious snacks the Resident Living Assistants prepare for his home

Swinging outside and spending time with his family is also very important to him

Matt's fun fact is that he knows quite a bit of sign language and is very good at communicating his wants and needs!
