FOSTERING A COMMUNITY OF CARE SINCE JUNE 29, 1987

LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT - NOVEMBER 2021 Friends and Family of David's House Ministries, "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." Thessalonians 5:16-18 Over the past year and a half, being joyful and giving thanks hasn't always been easy. COVID continues to change our routines and schedules and doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon. As we prepare to walk into the future, we pray for the "new normal" to come. May our hearts be unified in God now more than ever. As I consider the last few months here at David's House, I can find numerous examples of joy, reasons to give thanks, and ways in which our prayers have been answered. First, I want to give thanks to the donors who stepped in and contributed over $15,000 to provide the residents of David's House with a large tent and a cement pad to put it on. COVID has shown us a need for a covered outdoor community space, and our new tent has been a daily gathering place for residents, staff, and employees. I give thanks to the dedicated staff that is here every single day, picking up additional hours during a time of being short-staffed and caring for our residents throughout the entirety of the pandemic. I see the joy of residents visiting with each other again, enjoying gathering outside in wonderful Michigan weather, and getting back into our community exploring and simply enjoying life. I see the joy of staff simply doing life with those who call David's House their home. We see prayers being answered as residents remain healthy, new staff joins our family, and we look forward to opening Pine Tree Lodge for six family members. In the coming months, we continue to pray and ask for your prayers for the continued health of all our residents and staff. We thank you for the gifts you have given of time, money, and prayer. We know that we cannot do this without you. You are a large part of the joy that we see here at David's House Ministries! Sincerely,

2021 WALK/RIDE/RUN OVER $135,000 RAISED We had initially set a goal to raise 125,000 dollars at the 34th Annual Walk/Ride/Run. Our community surpassed this goal and raised over 135,000 dollars. There were over 200 people in attendance. One of the event's highlights was welcoming the residents of our new home, Pine Tree Lodge. We were able to bless the house and join together in prayer. Events like this remind us of the many ways God is working throughout our community and mission. Thank you to all of our sponsors and everyone who participated in the event. With your support, we can continue to extend God's love and foster a community of care to adults with special needs.

Meet Maddy! Maddy works in House 2 as a Home Supervisor and has been with David's House since 2018. She discovered our ministry after coaching some of our residents through a Special Olympics basketball team. Her favorite part about working here is the opportunity she gets to build meaningful relationships with each resident. She also enjoys doing activities with the residents and celebrating holidays and special occasions with them! They all mean so much to her, and she feels lucky to have them in her life! "Since working here, I've learned that it is okay to show emotions and be vulnerable with the people around me. House 2 has gone through a tough year, and I couldn't have made it through without the love and support of each resident and staff. We have become a family here, and I genuinely believe that it partially stems from having each other and holding each other during some of our most challenging times," said Maddy. When she is not at David's House, Maddy is attending Aquinas College and is majoring in special education with a minor in child development. Her hobbies include working out, going to local coffee shops, and hanging out with friends! She also plays college lacrosse, coaches Special Olympics basketball, and works part-time as a CLS aide. A quote that inspires her is, "She believed she could, so she did."

RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT Meet Kerry! Kerry has been with us, living in Willow Tree Lodge, since February 2019. Her zest for life and ability to persevere through anything with a smile makes her a bright light in everyone's day. Every morning when she wakes up, Kerry says, "I'm happy to be here." Her positive outlook on life is inspirational to both the staff and other residents. If you came to David's House, you would probably find Kerry baking, dancing, taking care of her baby dolls, or discussing Christmas with her friend Fred. Brownies are her absolute favorite dessert to make, and Christmas is the holiday she enjoys the most. She loves spending time with her mother, Elaine, and Home Supervisor Nicole. The motto Kerry lives by every day is, "Be happy." To say that she sticks to this mantra would be an understatement. David's House is beyond blessed to serve her.

Knowing we have a supportive community and a loving God, we look to the future with optimism and ingenuity. Thank you for your continued support and prayers.
