SEAZEN - A MULTI-CULTURAL CENTER

Location - Newcastle Upon Tyne

Tynemouth is a coastal town with a historical background. It has two piers - North and South which protected the mouth of the river Tyne from the havoc of North Sea since the victorian times.

This brief of this project was to find a conection between the headland and shoreline while celebrating its history. The site was chosen after taking into consideration several observations such as entry points, accesibility, sun and wind. The proposal is made after understanding each part of the site and studying the pros and cons.

The chosen site currently lacks social interaction and the exisiting structures are uninhabitated in comparison to nearby beaches. The pebbled beach and barren land needed restoration. Hence, the idea is to make it accesible by both the locals and tourists for an increased social interaction with the peripheral view of Tynemouth Castle and the Pier.

The proposal has three main spaces which sits in the contour. It is designed for tourist as well as locals to revamp the uninhabitated site. The structure progresses along with the contour into the water. These three spaces includes a fitness center and a cafe which leads to the relaxing infinity pool for public use. There are seperate entrances for gym and cafe to make it easily accessible to locals and tourists. Along with the fitness center, it also includes a zen and sauna room. These rooms are secluded to have solitude and a peaceful experience.

REWIND - THE REMEMBRANCE

Location - West Bridgford, Nottingham

Civic buildings bring people together around shared interests and community purpose. The success of the architecture is defined by how people experience institutional values and collective aspirations, as manifested through its physical presence within the public realm.

City centres have been a focal point for social gathering with markets, shopping, theatres, galleries and nightlife. Observations and investigations regarding how it has become a new focal point for social gathering, interaction and entertainment during the Covid 19 times is made and used to design a civic space.

The idea is to create a design which fosters to the need of a particular set of people locally as an identity. It focuses on bringing together people to meet, gather, interact and socialise.

Various forms are developed and studied to understand the best possible design to create a link between the space and public. West Bridgford had a cinema in the 1800s which was shut down. Taking the concept of summer cinema as an inspiration, a civic structure of a cinema in a park was proposed. The contours on the end of site were unused and lacked public interaction. It was incorporated in the design concepts effectively to create a raised space for the cinema.

The proposal of THE REWIND explores the limitations of the site context and the activities of people to understand the conditions of the area seleted to propose the idea of outdoor cinema. It includes the analysis of entry points, parking spaces and movement of people in and around the site location along with easy transport routes.

The structure of THE REWIND mainly uses timber structure and flat laid high rubber ceiling as a main material both in the construction as well as the finishes. Due to the weather conditions of the site, focus on the water drainage has been an important part in the materials and construction techniques.

The Cinema uses timber frame with bent polycarbonate which gives a distinctive design element and protects the cinema from weather elements. These timber frames sit right in the contours with foundation blocks. The principal aim of this analysis is the understand the working detail of the techniques to construct the proposed idea and the development of the spatial area.

SAFE TALK GALLERIA

The brief of the project was to explore social interaction and its importance within our society - both physically and physiologically. Social interaction along with social distancing has become acutely more apparent during the situation of COVID -19 and our everyday lives have been so dramatically affected by its advent.

It is important to understand how the users will interact with a physical structure, consider limiting the need to touch but also considering how the users feel using any proposed structures, for instance the use of natural light, a different way of sitting and being able to safely interact with another users.

The idea is to create an independent structure which fosters to the need of users to communicate with other users. It focuses on bringing together people to meet, gather, interact and socialise whilst following government guidelines and social distancing.

Various forms are developed and studied to understand the best possible design to create a link between the space and public. A guide and play of light was considered for the form, this element of a natural changing connection can be created to connect the occupants of the space together.

NITYA ANAND - A RESIDENTIAL SPACE

Location - India

Nitya Anand is a residential project taken up while working as a junior interior designer. My role was to assist to a senior architect and handle the conceptual and technical drafting and visualization of the entire project.

The clients' brief was to create a home which is modern with a traditional touch to the place. We developed a mood board from the database created over the period of 3 months of internship.

After meeting with the clients family and detailed discussion about their preferences of design, furniture, material, finishes and lighting preferences, an erray of designs were developed for individal spaces acording to the family members guide followed by technical drawings and site management.
